Story
Clover is the most gorgeous, friendly, trainable puppy! We have had her for over a month now and she has very quickly understood things like going potty outside, sit-stay, and not jumping up (though she of course still wants to jump up!). I think you could train her to do just about anything, and our professional trainers agree. She is looking for a home, because we think she really needs to be in a house with other dogs, preferably with people who are experienced with dogs (because she's a puppy and she wants to chew on everything, including people's hands!), and preferably a fenced yard. She is in puppy socialization and training and LOVES it. She loves every person/animal she meets! And if you live somewhere that vermin are an issue, she will take care of that. She's already found a snake and a mouse, and has scared off our many foundation-destroying groundhogs. She comes with toys, crates, etc.:)

Story
Hank is so small and cute, shelter volunteer thought he was a puppy! See video! Hank is perfect, he's very sweet, loves people and dog friendly. He about 2 yrs old, has a dark brindle/black color short coat, with pretty hazel eyes. He was very thin, anemic (due to worms), and run down when he first arrived, but he's completely vetted and now recovered from his anemia. He's gained weight, up to 40 lbs now, he's active and playful, loves everyone and loves attention. He's good with other dogs, and would enjoy a play buddy his own size. He likes to play with his food bowl but could substitute other play toys as well. He's good on a leash and likes to go fast, he'd do really well in a fenced in yard where he can run and exercise. He's a little too intense with cats, so not recommended. He is good with other dogs, and would like a playmate.

Story
Meet Lyra! She is an intelligent lady who enjoys leisurely walks with a friend. As soon as her leash is on, Lyra is ready to get caught up on the latest pee-mail. She bounces from one smell spot to the other. Exploring is one of her favorite things. She is very smart and knows sit/down. She will do anything for a treat. I'm sure she would love to learn new tricks, and would do so very quickly. We don't know what this girl has been through in her short life, but she seems to have had a rough go at it. Lyra doesn't care for strangers, but we've been able to win her over with treats...I'm sure you can too! Since being here, she has opened up to some of the staff and volunteers. After she's gone for a walk, she enjoys a snuggle with one of her friends. Lyra would like a home without children due to her not wanting to share food or toys. She may not want to have frequent visitors over because it takes Lyra a minute to warm up to new people. She's sensitive, quirky, and cute and needs a special home that can respect her boundaries. This girl needs someone to advocate for her special behavioral needs. She values patience and positivity as people get to know her. She has so much love to give, she just needs someone trustworthy to give her a safe space to open up in. If you think Lyra is a good fit for you, ask about meeting her today!Spayed and microchipped. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Four-year-old Jaxson thought he was just being a freewheeling venturer before getting picked-up for being unlicensed. No one claimed him, so we gave him a place to wait until he finds a home. While he has been with us, he has been neat in his room, and wriggles with delight when anyone stops to give him some love. We've got a serious tail-wagger here. This compact (40 pound), muscular dog is all set to learn what is expected of him. He has already learning to sit when directed and also to wait before a door is opened. When asked, he behaves well while on leash walks. He seemed to want to play with dog-curious kitties, but he could be overwhelming for some kitties.. Jaxson is the clean-cut yellow of a Labrador. And by the look of his charcoal lips, he may have some Black-mouth Cur (Old Yeller type dog) in his bloodline. We don’t know his mix for sure, but we know for sure that he is smart and good-looking.*update: on a recent outing to a lake-- Jaxson was perfect in the car and didn't blink an eye at the noisy pond geese. But, he couldn't get enough of meeting new people. Loving people is his favorite pastime. Jaxson always seems to look on the bright side of things. Bring him into your life to see the world from his optimistic viewpoint.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.    April 26, 2024, 7:06 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   2-year-old Samuel (AKA Finnie) is a Velcro dog who needs someone to be his angel. His foster-care provider loves him but can't be home enough, and that makes Finnie worry. When he worries, he barks for someone to please come rescue him. Other dogs also make him reactive, especially if he feels trapped on a leash. We don't know what happened to this beautiful boy in his past, but he was found as a stray with multiple scabs and wounds. The foster-care provider says Finnie doesn’t soil in the house, has had some professional training, and has been sweet as sugar with him.Finnie's (Sammie) caretaker cannot house him for the long term. This lovable Lab needs someone who will be home or can have someone be with him, as he learns to finds safety and peace in his life.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.    April 26, 2024, 7:06 am

Story
Maple is a 3 - 4 year old, mixed breed beauty who came to Augusta Dog Adoptions from a rural shelter in Virginia. Maple was very frightened, pregnant and about to have her babies when she arrived to us. We had to lift her into the back of the car because she was so scared and wouldn’t walk on a leash. After getting her settled in and trying to gain her trust, she went into labor and had 4 healthly pups that night. Maple was a good mom and raised her pups which have now all been adopted. She remains very frightened of loud noises and sudden moves. She has been around a lot of dogs in her foster home and gets along well with them. She is very submissive. Maple needs a little time to adjust around new adults and children, but once she gains your trust she will love you forever and let you pet her all day long. She uses a doggie door to go into a large fenced in area. Maple enjoys spending time outside. Maple is in need of a home that is rather quiet and someone willing to give her time to get familiar in her new surroundings and work with her on her leash training. She is still very frighted of walking on a leash and shuts down when one is on her. Maple is a wonderful girl that we are proud to say we saved. Now, we need to find her that forever home that we promise to all of our foster dogs! Is it with you Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, VA. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
