Story
Hi there, I'm Delta, your future best friend! You see, I'm a bit of an adventurer. I once chased a squirrel into a mail truck. Next thing I knew, I was at the shelter! Don't worry, I've given up my squirrel-chasing days for a more mellow lifestyle. I'm the curious type, always sniffing out the best spots for belly rubs. I'm also smart enough to know that the quickest way to treats is through your heart. I'm as sweet and friendly as they come, and I promise to be your loyal companion. So, how about we embark on this adventure called life together? This pet is eligible for the PETS FOR PATRIOTS adoption program. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2106570##

Story
Winnie is a sweet, two-year-old yellow Lab mix with a heart full of love and determination. She came to us from North Carolina after a traumatic experience—she was shot near her right hip, causing a thoracic spinal injury. While the bullet could not be fully removed through surgery, Winnie is a fighter, and despite her physical challenges, she remains full of life and joy. Due to her spinal injury, Winnie will ultimately face paralysis as she ages, and she also has some urinary incontinence. She does have difficulty walking and often paces throughout the day, but this doesn’t stop her from being the best girl. Her spirit is unwavering, and her loving nature shines through despite everything she’s been through. Winnie is a young dog with a ton of heart, and she has so much life left to live. She is looking for a home where she can receive the care and patience she needs as she adjusts to her disability. It’s important that Winnie goes to a home without other dogs, as she can be a little excitable and will need a calm environment to help her avoid further strain on her injuries. She will also require training to help her manage her pacing and energy levels so she doesn’t overexert herself. Winnie hasn’t had the fair start in life that she deserves, but she’s ready to give all the love she has to someone who will accept her for who she is. She’s not defined by her limitations; rather, she’s a testament to resilience and hope. Winnie is in need of a family who can embrace her disabilities and love her for her sweet, spunky spirit. If you’re an experienced dog owner who is looking for a special companion with a heart of gold, Winnie might be the one for you. 🐾 Ready to Adopt? Here's How! The first step in our adoption process is submitting an application through our website. Simply visit: https://www.hoovesandpaws.org/shelterluv.html, click on the pet’s photo to view their full bio, then click “Apply for Adoption” to get started. Please give us a few days to review your application. If approved, you’ll receive an email from adoptions@hoovesandpaws.org to schedule a meet and greet (including any necessary dog-to-dog introductions). If the meet and greet goes well and you’d like to move forward, we’ll schedule a home check—this means we’ll bring your new furry friend to your home ourselves. This helps ensure a smooth transition and gives your new pup a familiar face upon arrival. We’ll finalize the adoption at that time! Questions, comments, or concerns? Reach out to us anytime at adoptions@hoovesandpaws.org. We're here to help!

Story
Skipper is still very much a Black Lab puppy at about 11 months and 60 lbs. is loving, gentle, happy, playful and funny. Sadly, circumstances force us to rehome our 'lick-your-face' and 'snuggle on your lap' buddy. Good with people, kids, dogs and even our cat, he can run like lightning, is house broken and crate trained. Still improving on sit, stay, come, down and the leash. Very healthy, beautiful coat, neutered and up to date on shots. Skipper is an indoor friend who loves the outdoors. A fenced yard would be great with a family/owners who can play and exercise him. He loves chew toys, fetch, walks, and the dog park. Skipper is so sweet, the kind of dog you see on YouTube that makes you laugh when he cocks his head at you, goes nose to nose with our cat Bandit or just gets the zoomies. I can't imagine any dog lover or family not loving Skipper.

Story
Benji is the embodiment of everything we love about Labs — happy, friendly, and full of life! Despite recently going through the heartbreaking loss of his owner, Benji hasn’t let it dim his cheerful spirit. He’s settling in wonderfully at his foster home, where we’ve learned a few things about this lovable guy. Benji is dog-friendly and currently lives peacefully with both a big dog and a small dog. He loves spending time outdoors — in his previous home, he rarely got the chance, so now he soaks up every minute of sunshine he can get! Once he bonds with his person, Benji can even be trusted off-leash. Though he’s around five years old, you’d never know it — he’s wiggly, playful, and always ready for the next adventure. Benji is fully vetted and ready to find his forever family. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will fill your days with joy, Benji might just be your perfect match!
