Story
Hi there, I'm Delta, your future best friend! You see, I'm a bit of an adventurer. I once chased a squirrel into a mail truck. Next thing I knew, I was at the shelter! Don't worry, I've given up my squirrel-chasing days for a more mellow lifestyle. I'm the curious type, always sniffing out the best spots for belly rubs. I'm also smart enough to know that the quickest way to treats is through your heart. I'm as sweet and friendly as they come, and I promise to be your loyal companion. So, how about we embark on this adventure called life together? This pet is eligible for the PETS FOR PATRIOTS adoption program. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2106570##

Story
Hi, I'm Marty! I love to play, my tail wags at the thought of fetch and tug-of-war. I'm a quick learner too, mastering new tricks in no time. And I'm friendly, my heart is open to all who show me kindness. I may be an adult, but I'm a puppy at heart, always eager to explore and make new friends. I've been told I have a contagious joy, a happiness that radiates to those around me. If you're looking for a companion to share in life's adventures, then I'm your guy. I'm not just a pet, I'm a friend, a confidante, a source of unconditional love. Adopt me, and let's make beautiful memories together. Story
Winnie is a sweet, two-year-old yellow Lab mix with a heart full of love and determination. She came to us from North Carolina after a traumatic experience—she was shot near her right hip, causing a thoracic spinal injury. While the bullet could not be fully removed through surgery, Winnie is a fighter, and despite her physical challenges, she remains full of life and joy. Due to her spinal injury, Winnie will ultimately face paralysis as she ages, and she also has some urinary incontinence. She does have difficulty walking and often paces throughout the day, but this doesn’t stop her from being the best girl. Her spirit is unwavering, and her loving nature shines through despite everything she’s been through. Winnie is a young dog with a ton of heart, and she has so much life left to live. She is looking for a home where she can receive the care and patience she needs as she adjusts to her disability. It’s important that Winnie goes to a home without other dogs, as she can be a little excitable and will need a calm environment to help her avoid further strain on her injuries. She will also require training to help her manage her pacing and energy levels so she doesn’t overexert herself. Winnie hasn’t had the fair start in life that she deserves, but she’s ready to give all the love she has to someone who will accept her for who she is. She’s not defined by her limitations; rather, she’s a testament to resilience and hope. Winnie is in need of a family who can embrace her disabilities and love her for her sweet, spunky spirit. If you’re an experienced dog owner who is looking for a special companion with a heart of gold, Winnie might be the one for you.

Story
Ted Mosby – A True Survivor Looking for His Happy Ending For 6.5 years, Ted Mosby knew nothing but the four walls of a shelter. Born there and left behind, he coped with the stress and endless boredom the only way he could—by spinning and attacking his own feet uncontrollably. When Humane World for Animals stepped in to save him, they faced an agonizing question: Was he even saveable? Despite their best efforts, Ted couldn’t stop. He would spin for 18 hours a day, even on medication. The heartbreaking reality was setting in… until they took a leap of faith and sent him to us at Green Dogs Unleashed, sponsoring his intensive behavior modification. Four weeks. Endless patience. Constant positive reinforcement. And today? Ted is off medication and rarely spins at all. He’s learning how to be a dog—how to enjoy the world, trust people, and take in life at a calmer pace. Now, Ted is finally ready for his next chapter. He’s looking for a home that understands his past but is ready to focus on his future. He thrives on routine and would love a family that enjoys leash walks. He’s active but not high-strung, adores kids, and he enjoys other dogs his size, but is a little excited around cats. After everything Ted has been through, he deserves a home that will continue to support his journey with love and patience. Could that be you? At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2279726##
