Story
Meet Nick, a four year old Lab/Pit mix weighing 56 pounds. Nick`s story is a bittersweet one. He was originally adopted from Yakima Humane Society as a puppy, so it breaks our hearts to see him back with us now. Nick was recently brought in by Animal Control along with another dog and a cat after his owner was hospitalized. Sadly, no family members came forward to take them, so Nick is now searching for a new place to call home.If you`re looking for a calm, easygoing companion, Nick might be your perfect match. He is incredibly well-behaved and has quickly become a favorite around the shelter. Rather than causing a fuss, Nick is content to spend his days hanging out in a staff member`s office, relaxing on a cozy bed, and taking the occasional potty break. On leash, Nick is a dream. He`ll happily follow your lead and stroll along by your side without any drama. While he can be a little unsure in new situations, he`s a sensitive soul who simply needs a little time and reassurance. Once he feels comfortable, his laid-back personality shines through. Nick has shown he is house trained when he was brought home by a staff member for a sleepover. He gets along well with other dogs so far and is just an easy guy to love. He will sit on dog beds happily or if he is allowed on the couch he will find a comfy spot to hang out. We cannot say enough about how amazing this guy is and he we seriously be someone’s heart dog,Nick isn`t asking for much—just a quiet home, a soft place to rest, and people who will love him as much as he`ll love them. After losing the only home he knew, this sweet boy deserves a true second chance. If you have room in your heart for a gentle, loyal companion, Nick is ready to be your best friend. This pet is available for adoption on 6/5/2026 5:30 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Meet Iris, a ten-month-old Lab/Dane mix weighing over 60 pounds.Iris is a big, happy goofball with a sweet personality and an adorable smile that’s sure to make you laugh. She’s friendly and enjoys being around people, but she’s still learning about some of the basics — especially walking on a leash.Leashes seem to be very new and a little scary for Iris right now, so she will need a patient adopter willing to help her build confidence and learn at her own pace. Meet Clara, a one year old Lab/Husky mix weighing 40 pounds.Clara is a sweet, gentle girl who is looking for a patient family willing to help her learn that the world can be a safe place. She came to Yakima Humane Society through Animal Control after being removed from a difficult situation, and she is still adjusting to all the changes in her life.Right now, Clara can be timid, flighty, and unsure in new environments. Because of this, we recommend keeping her on a leash indoors for the first few weeks, allowing it to drag behind her so she can be safely guided when needed. We also recommend leash-walking her in a secure yard until she becomes comfortable with her new family and surroundings, as frightened dogs may try to escape when they are unsure of where they are.Clara would do best in a calm home without young children. While she may not show her true personality right away, we know there is a sweetheart hiding beneath her shy exterior. With patience, consistency, and kindness, Clara is likely to blossom into a loving and devoted companion. If you have a quiet home and the time to help a deserving dog build confidence, Clara may be the perfect match for you. This pet is available for adoption on 6/20/2026 3:27 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Bankroll, a one and a half year old Staffie/Lab mix weighing under 60 pounds. Bankroll is ready to invest all of his love into one lucky family! This short and squat little guy has one of those faces that makes you stop and say, “Wait... what is he mixed with?” We’re still trying to figure that mystery out ourselves, but whatever the recipe is, the result is undeniably adorable.Bankroll came to us through Animal Control after his owner was arrested, and sadly no one ever came for him. While the shelter can be overwhelming, this sweet boy has shown us that underneath his nervous exterior is a dog who really just wants comfort and reassurance from people.During his photo session, Bankroll was a little intimidated by the camera and wasn’t quite sure about being the center of attention. But the moment the camera went down, he trotted right over looking for affection and love. He seems to be a big scaredy-cat at heart and clearly finds safety in being close to people. He walks nicely on leash and has an adorable little prance that somehow makes him even cuter.Bankroll isn’t looking to be the tough guy—he’s looking to be someone’s baby. He’s searching for a home where he can trade uncertainty for security and spend the rest of his days soaking up love, attention, and the comfort he’s been waiting for. This pet is available for adoption on 5/19/2026 12:49 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Gary`s adoption price has been donated in full!Meet Gary, a one-year-old Retriever/Pit mix weighing 45 pounds. Gary is an athletic, enthusiastic dog who’s still figuring out the world around him. He doesn’t seem to have had much socialization, so new situations can sometimes be confusing or overstimulating for him. With that said, Gary truly wants to do well and thrives when someone takes the time to guide him. This is the same with dogs, he just doesn`t know what to do with them. At first he is a little defensive and unsure but he settles in fast with reassurance and will likely enjoy their companionship if provided time and patience. However, he would be just as happy as an only dog. He soaks up attention and enjoys working with his person, responding well to redirection and structure. Gary is the kind of dog who will bond closely with his handler and flourish with consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement.Gary is looking for a dedicated adopter who enjoys training and building a strong relationship. With the right guidance, he has the potential to become an amazing, loyal companion. This pet is available for adoption on 1/31/2026 at 11:52 AM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
