Story
Meet Marla, a one and a half year old Lab/Husky mix weighing 61 pounds.Marla is a friendly, happy, and silly young pup who came to the shelter with her sister, Abigail. The girls were unfortunately dumped as puppies and didn’t receive much early guidance, so Marla is looking for a patient adopter who’s excited to help her learn good manners and build confidence.Marla is full of enthusiastic puppy energy and is currently working on the command “off”—she’s just so excited to be around people! Because she’s still learning her manners, we don’t think Marla would be the best fit for a home with young children at this time. With consistency and positive training, she has all the potential to thrive. When she’s unsure, Marla looks to her people for guidance and support, and her eager, people-focused nature should make her a joy to train. Sweet, playful, and always ready to be silly, Marla will do best in a home willing to invest time, patience, and love as she continues to grow into the wonderful dog she’s meant to be.This pet is available for adoption on 12/4/2025 4:01 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Meet Abigail, a one and a half year old Lab/Husky mix weighing 67 pounds. Abigail is a sweet, happy, and silly young pup who came to the shelter with her sister, Marla. The two were sadly dumped as puppies and didn’t receive much early guidance, so Abigail is looking for a patient, committed adopter who’s excited to help her learn and grow.Abigail is full of classic puppy energy and enthusiasm—sometimes a little too enthusiastic! She’s currently working on the command “off” and is eager to learn, especially when she has people she trusts by her side. When she’s unsure, Abigail looks to her humans for guidance and reassurance, which makes her a great candidate for training and bonding. She can be a bit uncertain around new or unfamiliar things, but with encouragement and support, she shows just how brave she can be. Friendly, playful, and always ready to be silly, Abigail will thrive in a home willing to invest time, patience, and love into helping her become the confident dog she’s meant to be.This pet is available for adoption on 12/4/2025 4:01 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Rocky, a seven year old Lab/American Bulldog mix weighing 70 pounds.Rocky’s world was turned upside down when his owner was arrested and his family could no longer care for him. Through no fault of his own, this well-mannered senior boy found himself surrendered to Animal Control — confused, heartbroken, and unsure of what was happening. But even with all these sudden changes, Rocky remains incredibly loving and friendly. He greets new people with a calm curiosity and a gentle heart. There’s a quiet strength about him — a dignity that shines through in the way he carries himself.Rocky is a mature, respectful companion who enjoys his walks and strolls beautifully on a leash. He knows the command “sit” and clearly had a solid foundation in his previous home. He would thrive in a calm, compassionate environment where he can feel safe and loved again. He has met other dogs while with us and has done extremely well, he was easy going and just happy to be out and about with them. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key friend who will appreciate every bit of love you give, Rocky is ready to start this next chapter by your side. This pet is available for adoption on 9.2.25 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.Did you know YHS offers a `Play Date` program?Whether you are interested in adopting or just want to hang out with a furry friend, it`s a fun way to spend an hour, an afternoon or even a couple days. All the his health records is at valley vet He is very outgoing, goofy, happy dogs, kinda like Gomer Plye style. He will entertain himself with a lot of toys, The bad he can get into confrontation with other male dogs , he had gotten into with my other male dogs due to that Titan is protecting his daughter and jealousy thing, Blood and injury a few time. he can play with other dog, prefer female with proper introduction slowly. Sometimes he does bark a lot for whatever reason He is crate train, know a few commands, he alway like peoples and he does jump to peoples but it will take a few minutes to calm down, great co-pilot in the car, like to sit on the lap, he is aware of doggy dogs to go in or out. You would have to keep some things off within reach, I have to keep the bathroom door close since he like to steal toilet paper and take it outside. He would be great that someone like to do hiking or a lot of walking… Always on leash. Story
Meet Gary, a one-year-old Retriever/Pit mix weighing 45 pounds. Gary is an athletic, enthusiastic dog who’s still figuring out the world around him. He doesn’t seem to have had much socialization, so new situations can sometimes be confusing or overstimulating for him. With that said, Gary truly wants to do well and thrives when someone takes the time to guide him. This is the same with dogs, he just doesn`t know what to do with them. At first he is a little defensive and unsure but he settles in fast with reassurance and will likely enjoy their companionship if provided time and patience. However, he would be just as happy as an only dog. He soaks up attention and enjoys working with his person, responding well to redirection and structure. Gary is the kind of dog who will bond closely with his handler and flourish with consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement.Gary is looking for a dedicated adopter who enjoys training and building a strong relationship. With the right guidance, he has the potential to become an amazing, loyal companion. This pet is available for adoption on 1/31/2026 at 11:52 AM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Teddy, a two-and-a-half-year-old Retriever/Shepherd mix weighing 60 pounds. Teddy’s story starts with hardship, but it doesn’t define the dog he is today. He was brought in by Animal Control after his owner surrendered him. Teddy had been living in a kennel without proper care, with very limited access to food and water, and poor living conditions. Despite everything he’s been through, Teddy’s heart is still incredibly gentle and trusting.Teddy is a sweet, low-energy boy with a calm, well-mannered nature. He’s friendly, good on leash, and truly a gentle soul who seems grateful for every kind word and soft touch. He doesn’t ask for much—just a safe place to rest, steady meals, and someone who will show him the love he’s always deserved. If you’re looking for a quiet, loving companion who will return your kindness tenfold, Teddy is ready to start his new chapter by your side.
