Story
Meet Rachel, a two-and-a-half-month-old Lab/Coonhound mix weighing 20 pounds. Rachel is a sweet and silly girl who came to us through our “My Last Litter” program. Her mom is a Yellow Lab, and her dad is the neighbor’s Coonhound. This program gives moms like Rachel’s the chance to be spayed so they can retire from having puppies, helping us reduce pet overpopulation while finding loving homes for their little ones.Rachel is going to be a BIG girl, and she already has plenty of personality to match. She absolutely loves belly rubs, and once she’s settled in, she’s happy to soak up attention and affection. She’s also got a little stubborn streak, which comes as no surprise with her hound heritage!Rachel definitely takes after her Coonhound dad in some ways. She loves using her nose and can become very focused when she catches an interesting scent. Coonhounds were bred to track for long distances, so that incredible nose can sometimes make them independent thinkers who have their own ideas about where the adventure should go. A secure fenced area and leash walks will be important for keeping this girl safe as she follows her nose. She may also inherit the classic hound tendency to be vocal, especially when excited or when she has something to say. Coonhounds are known for their distinctive baying and their big personalities.Rachel has a half tail that makes her even more unique, and her ears aren’t quite as droopy as some of her siblings. She’s a fun combination of Lab and hound, and we expect her to grow into a large, affectionate, adventurous companion with plenty of character. If you’re a fan of big dogs, belly rubs, goofy personalities, and a good old-fashioned hound nose, Rachel might be your girl! This pet is available for adoption on 9.15.26 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.Ready to adopt? Great news-our spayed/neutered pets are available to go home the same day! You can visit us in person, give us a call, or apply online-whatever works best for you. Your adoption fee includes: A lovable new companion, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations + deworming, flea/tick treatment, rabies vaccine (for pets 3-4 months and older), and microchip with nationwide registration. For online adoptions please fill out our quick adoption questionnaire here: https://yakimahumane.org/adopt/apply/Questions?
