Story
Meet Necktie, the most dapper gentleman in town! This sweet boy is always chilling, taking life one belly rub at a time. He’s got a heart full of love and a nose that always knows where the treats are! Necktie is the perfect mix of friendly and easygoing, he gets along just fine with other dogs and absolutely adores his human friends. Whether he’s lounging by your side or following you around for snacks, he’s just happy to be part of the fun! Looking for a lovable, treat-motivated best friend? Necktie is ready to tie himself to your heart forever! Here's some notes from his foster: Necktie is such a sweet, happy, good boy. I can't say enough good things about him. The first thing you need to know about Necktie is that this guy loves to eat! Necktie is basically a 2 in 1 Hoover/floor cleaning system. Not a single crumb will escape Necktie in his quest to give you sparkling clean floors (and maybe coffee tables too, watch out!) Necktie can hold his potty overnight. He loves short walks. Sniffing is his favorite and he likes to stick close right beside you. He doesn’t have issues being left alone so I think he would be fine napping at home if you had a typical 9-5 schedule. He is a very quiet dog and we have hardy heard a peep out of him. He is most happy to curl up with you on the couch and snuggle. Necktie does have both visual and hearing impairment. He can only see and hear a little bit, but I can tell that this does not stop him at all. Necktie is very smart and had our whole apartment mapped out in no time. He remembers where we put all the dog stairs to get onto the couch and bed. He even tries (and fails) to chase our cat. Necktie navigates the world with his other senses, and he is plenty confident to run and jump around once he knows his surroundings. He will also do stairs as long and you guide him the first few times. Necktie is a very sweet cuddly boy who deserves to live the good life after his time as a stray. So many families out there would be lucky to have him!

Story
Macie is a sweet, silly girl who is about 5-8 years old and 15.5 pounds.  She loves her foster mom’s dogs and is sweet to her cat. She was closed down and ill when we pulled her from the shelter. Every day her personality is blooming a bit more. She is a real homebody and will walk around the block, but would rather stay home and hang out.  She is vaccinated, chipped and spayed and has had a recent dental. Macie is a special needs dog. She needs to take medication morning and evening for her heart murmur and arthritis. She also has ointment for dry eye. Macie was a stray so we don't know how she got to this state, whether an accident or genetics, but she readily takes her meds in pill pockets and she is a wonderful companion. Her medications and  supplements cost about $100 per month and she is a dog that will need regular grooming. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Macie is $300. If you are interested in adopting Macie, please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. March 5, 2025, 12:45 am

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, May 3rd from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption fee: $750 Meet Mystic – The Little Superhero with a Big Personality!   Mystic is a 2-3 year old, 17-pound Lhasa/Shih Tzu mix with a soft, non-shedding coat—great for those with allergies! When he was rescued from the shelter, his coat was a tangled mess, but after a spa day with the groomer, he’s feeling (and looking) like a brand-new pup. Mystic is full of charm, personality, and one signature move that steals hearts—his begging dance! Whether he’s asking for treats, belly rubs, or a walk, he’ll sit up on his hind legs and “pray” with his front paws like the little performer he is. Check out his video—you won’t be able to resist! Mystic’s Daily Routine Morning: Sleeps in until his humans wake up, then enjoys a 15-minute walk to start the day. Afternoon: A 20-minute lunchtime stroll, followed by some lounging and people-watching. Evening: Another walk around the neighborhood before dinner at 5 PM (though he’s a bit of a picky eater—probably had a taste of the good life with human food before!). Night: Mystic is a night owl! He’s happy to stay up late with his person, keeping them company until bedtime. Why Mystic is Out of This World The Ultimate Sidekick – He loves staying within sight of his favorite human, whether curled up nearby or trotting alongside on a walk. A True Lovebug – Scratch his ears or rub his belly, and he’ll completely melt, rolling over and waving his paws for more. Always Ready for an Adventure – Mystic loves walks, keeps a great pace, and even enjoys a short jog! Hilarious and Endearing – His begging dance is his go-to trick, and it never fails to get a laugh (or a treat). Homebody with a Playful Side – He’s content chilling at home but also enjoys backyard time or a fun outing. The Perfect Home for Mystic Mystic is happiest with his person and isn’t the type of dog who wants to meet every stranger, but once you’re in his circle, he’s your biggest fan. He can coexist with other dogs but would also thrive as someone’s one and only pup, soaking up all the love and attention. Slow introductions with new people and dogs are best, and he’ll do well in a home that understands his need for patience and consistency. He’s still working on house training and commands, but he’s a smart little guy who’s eager to learn!April 23, 2025, 4:31 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $750 Meet Turtle – The Soft-Hearted Pup Who Came Out of His Shell   Turtle didn’t get his name because he’s slow (although he does enjoy a good nap), or because he has a fondness for lettuce (though he wouldn’t turn down a treat). He earned it because when he arrived at our rescue, he was hidden inside a thick, matted “shell” of fur—more fluff fortress than dog. But even while being gently shaved and freed from his tangle of a turtle shell, this 2 year old, 16-pound Miniature Schnauzer–Lhasa Apso mix was sweet as can be.   And once we helped Turtle shed that shell? The transformation began.   While he’s still a bit timid and unsure of the big wide world, Turtle has shown that he wants to be brave. Every day, he stretches, wags his tail, and greets the morning with quiet optimism. He may not be charging into adventures just yet, but with the right home, he’ll blossom at his own gentle pace.   Now let’s talk about Turtle’s secret weapon: other dogs. Turtle doesn’t just like dogs—he needs one. He finds his confidence in the calm presence of another pup and is a completely different dog when he has a buddy to show him the ropes. He follows his foster sister everywhere, snuggles beside her on the couch, and even offers up the occasional bark of playtime excitement. With another dog around, Turtle transforms from shy wallflower to happy tail-wagger—and that’s where his true magic shines.   Here’s what you need to know about this soft-hearted guy:   Non-shedding, low-allergy coat – Now that it’s been trimmed and cleaned up, Turtle’s coat is growing in beautifully.   Potty pad pro – Turtle does well indoors and even used a doggy door at his previous foster.   Couch potato energy – He’s a lounger with flashes of playful joy, especially in the mornings when he’s feeling extra brave.   Sleeps snuggled next to his doggy foster sibling – He’s got serious cuddle potential… for the right furry friend.   He’s currently a bit too nervous for walks (he prefers couch-potatoing with flair) and may give high-energy kiddos the side-eye, but in a calm, compassionate home with a sweet resident dog? Turtle will thrive. He will accept your gentle head scritches if you come bearing treats and patience.   Flight risk? Yes. Couch cuddler in training? Absolutely. Turtle is looking for a home that understands the quiet victories—like the first time he asks for a treat, or when he rolls over on his back with a sleepy snore of trust. A peaceful home with a mellow pup, maybe a small garden to explore, and humans who speak fluent “gentle and kind”—that’s the dream.   Favorite Turtle moments? When he wakes up, he does a big stretch, a tiny tail wag, and sometimes offers his foster sister a barky “good morning” invitation to play. It’s like watching a shy cartoon character inch out from behind the curtain every day.   Turtle may take his time warming up, but if you have the patience, the peace, and the perfect pup for him to shadow, he’ll reward you with quiet companionship, unexpected playfulness, and the kind of love that only comes from a dog who’s learned to trust.   Adopt Turtle—because sometimes the best things take a little time, and a lot of heart.April 26, 2025, 7:00 am
