I weigh 30 lbs, and I am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $500 All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are recommended. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. Ever Seen a Scruffy Guy Transform When Someone Finally Shows Him Kindness? Hi, I am Fred! I used to wander the streets of Chicago all alone — just me against the world. When they found me, I was a tangled, matted mess. Nobody had taken care of me in who knows how long, and honestly, I had learned that the world was not always a safe place. But I am working on that now. Every day, I am learning that not all humans will let me down. It is a process, and I am building trust one gentle interaction at a time. What helps? Walks! I absolutely love going on walks — they make me feel free and happy. And once I know you are one of the good ones, I turn into a total snuggle bug. There is nothing better than curling up close to my person after I have learned they are safe. I also love playing with my stuffies. They are my treasures, and watching me toss them around, you would never guess I spent so long just trying to survive. Here is the thing though — I would really prefer to be the only pet in the house. After everything I have been through, I need a home where I can have all the attention and patience to myself while I continue working on trusting this new life of mine. Genevieve is a girl who was burdened with a rough start in life. She was removed from an unsanitary hoarding environment with 4 other dogs who were all matted, terrified, unsocialized, and in overall terrible condition. Since joining the CRA family, the rest of the dogs she arrived with have all been adopted and are thriving in forever-families, but Gen is still waiting. She has been with us since July. She is hesitant when meeting new people and her uncertainty makes it hard to immediately see the huge personality hiding beneath the surface. Once she bonds with someone, she is loyal, full of love and energy, and downright comical. She bounces like a bunny, prancing around your feet and smiling like a goofball. She has since learned that people can be kind and she loves to cuddle or be near by. She is also an excellent splooter. We are currently working through a bit of separation anxiety. She had no foundational skills when she came to us but has continued to make improvements. She has made many dog friends during her time with us and we think she might do best in a home with another dog at this time. Another dog would help her gain confidence and trust in her forever home, learn routine and more. Gen is being fostered currently in Chicago and has an open adoption radius. This means that she is accepting adoption applications outside of our typical radius, however, the adopter has to travel to Chicago to meet and finalize the adoption. Gen's adoption fee includes her spay, up to date vaccines and prevention (flea, tick and heart worm), heart worm negative, and microchip. Meet Miss Marla. Marla is a 4 year old teddy bear mix. I believe she is part lhasa apso, and she is smart and sweet and playful. Marla had a rocky start to her life so far but she is resilient! When I first got her, she didn't know what stairs were. In three weeks she has learned to go up and down stairs, sometimes reluctantly, and she will signal that she needs to go outside by going to the door. Marla is very laid back and quiet, she is not a barker. She does have a bit of a stubborn streak, so sometimes you have to work with that to get her to do things. But she is trainable! Frodo is a Lhasa Apso looking for sponsors! He is a hospice dog with our rescue due to his 5/6 heart murmur, lack of potty training, and senior age (12 years young). This sweet little guy (just 13 lbs!) is great with other dogs, walks nicely on leash, and loves being with his people. He’s neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and dewormed. He was found as a stray and was not reclaimed.
