Story
Ralphie Rocks!! This 1-year-old Terrier/Lhasa Apso mix has so much love to give! While his story may have had a rough beginning, he is eager to love and is ready to receive it back tenfold (preferably with some treats included!). Ralphie is an active boy, seeking out affection throughout the day and loves mental enrichment activities. He is incredibly food motivated and with the added intelligence, makes him a joy to train. He enjoys long scenic walks amongst bushes to read and leaves frequent pee-mails (housetrained before he even came into foster, because he rocks). And what a treat if he runs into another pup during it! He likely would love having a fellow fur sibling. This dude loves food and trying all types of different flavors is incredibly exciting for him (except for bananas and blueberries for some reason). He loves to cuddle, get pets, and stare lovingly into your eyes. Your shoes or clothes may appear in front of you when he's not getting enough attention, so he'll let you know how he's feeling. His foster home has been full of so much joy and laughter welcoming in Ralphie, so his future fur-family is in for a treat. He came to his foster home all matted, flea infested and with rough paws, so this guy deserves all the love and attention he is due and he will show you how well behaved he is, how willing to trust he is and how much love he has to share. Ralphie is being fostered in New York, NY and his adoption fee is $550. "To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal."

Story
*This is a courtesy post, Alfie is not currently with our rescue. Please contact mahwahpetcenter@gmail.com for more information and to schedule a meet. He is currently in Mahwah in Bergen County, NJ* Alfie is an adorable 9 year old Shih Tzu mix who was abandoned and is currently being cared for by staff at a local boarding kennel, but they would love for him to find just the right home. He has a lot of great qualities- he’s very friendly meeting people and staff there has had no issues handling him, he gets along with other dogs of all sizes he’s met there, and LOVES to play with toys. Almost to the point of obsession, but he can occupy himself for hours playing- he considers himself a field bred Labrador and not a fluffy little lapdog. He’s not sure why Shih Tzu can’t be considered for police and search and rescue work but he’s ready to throw his paw into the ring as the very first, and has that obsessive drive alerting you when he finds where you have hidden the toys for the day. He’s flunked out of a couple of homes for his quirks and isn’t for the inexperienced and faint of heart- he can be moody and lash out if interrupted from what he wants to do, and protective of those he’s most bonded to in a home environment. So he needs someone that understands how to manage and live with bossy little Napoleons and figure out how to get him to want to do what you want him to do, and not force him. No children definitely, he’s more than enough work, and he could probably live with dogs that don’t interrupt his toy time and just let him be. But he’s a really fun funny little guy for someone with a sense of humor. Please email his friends at mahwahpetcenter@gmail.com for adoption details. Alfie is eligible for reduced cost vet care with his friends at Mahwah Veterinarian Groom & Board for life with adoption Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Backstory for Lizzy Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to help with a hoarding situation that involved Lizzy and her sister Izzy. We were able to get them out safely before they started to have litters of their own.  Lizzy recently arrived to our sanctuary to get all of the medical care she needs. Now that we have gotten to know her personality and she has shown us what she needs in a family, she is ready to be placed in her lifetime home. We look forward to finding out who this will be!  Get to Know Lizzy age: baby at only 10 months  breed: Shih Tzu weight: 9-9.5 pounds Vaccines:  Rabies  DHPP Bordetella  Other Tests and Procedures:  Spayed in May, 2026 Heartworm test, negative (which is very good!)   Additional procedures and treatments:  • Microchipped • Flea/tick preventive treatment, heart worm prevention, and dewormer  • First positive reinforcement training sessions  • Several baths and grooms   Requested adoption donation/fee is $900. This is to partly cover the costs of care that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue has incurred. On average, Animal Saints’ cost to save a life through our nonprofit exceeds $2,000 per Saint. We do our best to keep our adoption requests as reasonable as possible to encourage more people to adopt.   Breed and Hair Notes  Lizzy has hair and not fur. She is a Shih Tzu with beautiful white and tan markings. PLEASE NOTE: Lizzy’s hair will grow as it is not fur. She will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Lizzy is not used to grooming, but she quickly learned that it’s great fun when lots of treats are involved! She has been wiggly for her baths but is getting used to them. By the end of her groom, she was sitting down on the grooming table for us. She’s learning quickly that it’s fun to be taken care of and doted upon.  Personality Lizzy is effervescent and a delight. It’s easy for her to meet people she doesn’t know, and she greets everyone with a tail wag. She has a surprising amount of confidence for a baby Shih Tzu!  When she gets really excited, she has the cutest snort that tells us all she’s having the time of her life. Then, she adds a dance with a front paw wave to really show her love of living. She’s a hoot! Lizzy is ready for anything, whether it’s a playful romp in the garden or cuddle time on the sofa. She’ll be your walking friend and laidback sidekick.  Lizzy is learning foundational skills training. We are working on “sit,” recall word “here,” and “look.” She is learning the basics of loose leash training as she has the energy and personality to enjoy some good walks in her life. We expect her new family to continue training sessions with a professional and certified positive reinforcement trainer to keep her safe in her new life.  To learn more about Lizzy and take in her joy and energy, view her short film here: https://vimeo.com/1216701409 Ideal Home Lizzy could handle a laidback home as well as one that has some life and energy in it. She is young and has the energy for faster walks and playfulness.  Lizzy loves her sister Izzy. It’s not imperative to adopt them together, but you’d have best friends (and littermates!) right out of the gate if adopted together. We are open to finding homes for them separately if the ideal families present themselves for both. Both could handle being the only dog in the home, provided they had canine friends. Having daily walking friends is always a great idea for socializing. It is important to match Lizzy with someone who works remotely, a very active and higher energy retiree, or she’s able to go to work with her person. She’s not the kind of girl who would be a-okay being left alone for many hours every day. She has an abundance of love to give, and if people are not around to receive it, she will be sad and lonely.  No crates for Lizzy. If crates are necessary for your lifestyle, then Lizzy is not a match. Plan on sharing your sofa and bed with her. She’ll be loyal for life!    Love and Commitment  At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. Our goal is to place the dogs we save into lifetime families.  With this in mind, we seek adopters who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical needs.  We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family. They don't believe animals are subordinates or view them as mere possessions; they are partners in life. They are committed to giving them the safety and love they need to flourish.  Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application! August 10, 2026, 7:59 pm

It’s almost as if she’s practicing how to walk like a human. She will artfully dance on her back legs for minutes at a time.  Izzy is ready for anything.
