Story
Gizmo is a goofy boy who wants to love you but expects things to be his way. He is typical for a lhasa with a little bit of tude (lhasatude) so will need an owner that understands by being a true leader. If this role isn't obvious, he thinks he has to do it and that role is too much for a doggy to have. If you have experienced this with dogs, you know it is awesome when you carry the role and have a loyal follower at your side.

Story
Lucky's Story: From Survivor to Sweetheart Lucky has already used up one of his nine lives, and now he's ready for the happy ending he deserves. Lucky and his doggy friend were spotted wandering near a lake for several days before animal control was finally able to reach them. When they arrived, it was clear that Lucky had suffered a serious coyote attack and needed emergency medical care. He was rushed to the veterinarian, where he received a lifesaving blood transfusion. Once he started feeling better, his sweet personality began to shine through. Today, Lucky's wounds have healed, his strength has returned, and he's ready to find a family of his own. This resilient little guy is incredibly affectionate and loves being close to his people. He has the cutest little yodels and conversations, always eager to tell you about his day. Lucky enjoys car rides, gets along well with other dogs, and is learning that leashes aren't so scary after all. Like many dogs who have had to fend for themselves, Lucky prefers to enjoy his meals without sharing and would like to be fed separately from other pets. He also isn't interested in sharing his food, which is easy to manage with a little structure. Despite everything he's been through, Lucky remains a loving, happy boy who greets each day with optimism and a wagging tail. If you're looking for a dog with a remarkable story, a grateful heart, and plenty of personality, Lucky may be your perfect match. Story
Kenny is being fostered in VA. Kenny is NOT BLIND!Kenny is a friendly, lively, happy pup! Here is his story!Kenny, a 13-pound, one-year-old shih tzu (perhaps a mix), was a stray in Ohio and landed in a shelter in rough shape. The shelter reached out to the Blind Dog Rescue as they suspected a vision issue, and he came to Virginia to be fostered in late June 2026.Kenny is an alert, aware dog and he settled in quickly at his foster home where there are three other dogs. He enjoys other dogs, and is learning to be respectful when they are not interested in playing with him. He likes to tug on a rope with his foster dad and will also settle himself on the floor chewing on various toys. He has a gentle chew when he plays and has not torn apart a single toy!Kenny is housetrained (no accidents in the house yet!) and is crate trained. Sometimes when he is settling down in his indoor pen at night, he may bark for a very short while but then he falls asleep and is quiet all night, keeping his pen clean and dry. Kenny does pretty well on a leash until he sees a critter in the yard! Then he focuses in and may want to chase! :) He travels well in the car.Kenny likes eating Purina One with gravy and is not yet interested in other kinds of dog food. He also likes peanut butter, chicken jerky (he loves that!), and some small treats. He is a little hesitant when approaching his food bowl, and waits until his foster parents have moved away before he starts eating.Kenny has been to the vet several times since arriving at his foster home. He is a healthy weight. His skin was dry and flaky when he arrived but that has been steadily improving with a good diet. He had bilateral ear infections which were treated (he was not happy when the vet staff needed to clean his ears!) and now his ears are good! His bloodwork was checked, along with his urine and a fecal. Plus he was tested for heartworm disease. All testing results were good with no concerns except Kenny had Giardia which has been treated and his most recent fecal was negative. It was a surprise to find out Kenny can see well and, at this time, there are no health or vision issues with his eyes. And his teeth look great! The vet staff fell in love with Kenny.Kenny is an active pup who has a bit of an unusual gait. He has had x-rays and has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia (a congenital condition) and a left cruciate injury. He has had a Librela injection and has responded well. His gait looks more symmetrical and he has more stamina. Librela is to be given monthly. Anyone interested in adopting Kenny should speak with their vet about adopting a small dog with hip dysplasia and a left cruciate injury. We dont know Kennys history and we dont know what the future holds - and this is true for all dogs in rescue.Kenny can go up and down a few steps but should be carried up and down a full flight of steps. He has been to the groomer and did very well although was sensitive around his left leg. There is a cat at the foster home (a semi-feral cat who spends most of her time outside) and Kenny is VERY interested in the cat. When he sees the cat, he becomes hyper-focused and wants to chase her. Although Kenny is a friendly dog with people and gets along with the other dogs in the foster home, it is unknown how he would react if allowed to have close interaction with a cat. Therefore, Kenny should be adopted in a home with no cats.Kenny has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted in a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be.Kenny has a long, wonderful life ahead of him. He is still a puppy so needs an adopter who understands puppies are still learning and that they need consistency, routine, rules, and lots of love. If you think you can provide the home Kenny deserves, fill out an application today!BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Dean Martin is quite the cutie with a matching personality. He loves all dogs and loves to stroll around the back yard with his little scruffy dog pack. He's affectionate and sassy all in the same package. Dean Martin was rescue only due to being terrified in the shelter, he immediately bloomed when his foster mom picked him up and he's had just shown us how great of a boy he is ever since. Don't pass by this boy and miss out on a perfect little guy.
