When I arrived at the shelter I was a mess. I was severely matted, emaciated and the clinic staff were unable to see my eyes the mats were so tight around my face. After lots of TLC, that included a complete shaving of all my fur, I was feeling much better. Sadly though the staff discovered I was blind and had extreme dry eye. So even though I couldn`t see, my eyes were not producing any tears to keep my eyes moist and it was very painful, so the decision was made to remove them. Chico is a 13 year old Maltese boy who currently weighs around 20 pounds.  A total couch potato who likes attention.  He is neutered, but is not currently up to date on vaccines.   This sweet boy needs a little training to make him the perfect pup- he will bark for attention, mark and nip if scared.  Nothing a little training can't fix, but he needs an adopter who has the time and is willing to work with him. Gizmo is a 5 year old Maltese boy, about 13 pounds.  Housebroken, but not yet fixed or up to date on medical.  Very friendly, but a little protective of his people.  He gets along with other dogs, but really prefers to snuggle with people.  Current owner believes he may have some undiagnosed back pain. Gizmo is in our direct from owner adoption program and is not currently in Chesed's custody. We will background and vet check all applications, which are available at www.chesed-rescue.org/adoptions. There will be no adoption fee (though donations to the rescue are always appreciated), but adopter will be responsible for bringing this boy up to date medically, including a neuter. Lucí is a rescue from a foster who placed an ad on Facebook about 6 - 7 yrs ago. Don’t know her exact birthday or age since her original owner never gave us nor the foster Luci’s (previously named Sassy) records, however, when we took her to the vet they estimated that she was about a year old at the time. She has no health issues, was spayed once we got the green light from the vet, & is a perfectly energetic dog. She certainly lives up to her breed with being very affectionate, playful, & alert. She loves going on walks, isn’t too fond of going on drives or baths, & is certainly a “People Poochie”. She also CAN be aggressive towards other dogs so no roommates. We’re looking for a new forever home for her because, unfortunately, between work (we all work) & studies, we don’t have the time to give her the proper attention & physical activity she needs. We want to make sure she gets the best quality of life & being stuck in the house all day isn’t fair for her.
