If you are a good fit for the animal you are interested in -we will call to speak with you, If we feel you are not a good fit , we will contact you about other pets that may be a good fit for your home. Many people are losing the opportunity to adopt the animal they want because they fail to put in an application and the pet was adopted before we could answer your email. .If you have applied for an animal in our facility and have not received a response within 7 days, PLEASE call or contact us again. Though we do our best in trying to answer all emails in a timely manner, sometimes things get away from us, get lost or misplaced. Story
HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet him, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where he did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age; because of this, he may struggle with new situations, show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, need help understanding leashes, and need patience and structure with housetraining - If other dogs are being petted, he'll nudge his way in for cuddles, too; prefers to come to you vs. you coming to him, and prefers to be on the ground vs. in a lap- Can be pretty vocal when someone new comes over, but he quiets down in a minute and wants to be near them - Has learned to use a doggie door to go outside to potty - Likes to chew on plush toys, and loves chicken and boiled eggs as treats - Was a good boy for a recent haircut and bath in his foster home- Gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home, as well as the neighbor dogs that come over to visit; likes spending time with them and really relaxes around them; we recommend that he go to a home with another dog - May not do well in a busy home with young children The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: White Weight: 15 Age: 1yrs 2mths 3wks

Story
Meet Bob and Bonnie!Bonnie and Bob, our bonded duo, came to us from a rescue after receiving them from a breeder. They are still learning what it means to be loved pets, but are currently shy and unsocialized. They have not mastered walking on a leash and would do best in a home with a secure, physical fenced yard where they can safely potty, play, and learn new skills. They’re comfortable using potty pads, but will need a patient adopter willing to teach them new routines and skills at their own pace. Fast movements and loud noises can be scary for them, so a calm, adult-only home with gentle guidance would be best. They don’t do well with small dogs but may thrive alongside a larger, confident dog who can help show them the ropes. Bonnie and Bob would just need proper introductions to other animals to make sure everyone gets along well. With Bonnie and Bob being considered high maintenance due to their grooming needs, and since they have not had experience with a groomer, they will need to be groomed with sedation or medication from a vet until they have had time to trust new experiences. They are looking for someone who understands that progress may be slow and that their affection may look different than most other dogs. With time, consistency, and compassion, these two will learn to blossom into wonderful companions for someone that is ready to help them feel safe and loved.

Story
This is Remi, a sweet senior Maltese/Poodle mix, born appx June 2018.  The perfect home for Remi would be with a family who has no other pets unless it's a smaller dog.  She would do better in a quiet home with someone who can give her lots of love and attention.   Remi is usually calm, sometimes very lazy.  She is not very active and just needs a peaceful environment.  She would love to be one-on-one with someone, but has been in a home with teenagers.  She has also been known to be protective of her "person".  Remi is friendly with other dogs and gets along with kids. Remi will let you know when she has to go outside.  (Recently she's been a little scared of a larger dog in the home and had a few accidents from holding it too long.  We believe this issue should improve in a new environment and with a potty training refresher.)  Remi knows a few commands, when to go upstairs for bed, go outside, move rooms and time to eat.   Remi seems a little nervous in the car - she shakes during the ride and at the groomer.  Otherwise, she's not opposed to her regular check-ups and grooming. The suggested adoption donation for Remi is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Meet Ricky!!Ricky is an owner surrender thru no fault of his own. Ricky is a Maltese mix that is a little is shy and cautious when meeting new people but has gained confidence from being in a foster home. He`s good with the other small dogs at his home and has become playful! We do not know what he thinks of cats but is an avid bird and squirrel watcher. Given that Ricky is still needing some time to warm up to new people, a home with older children or no children may be best for him. He is doing well with going outside to potty but will also use potty pads if needed. He walks well on a leash but would love a home with a fenced yard where he can explore safely. Ricky can be quite vocal, so shared walls would not be the best fit for him. He does kennel at night in his foster home.If you would like to meet Ricky, please complete our online adoption application.
