Story
We would like you to meet Fred and Ginger!  The are ready to dance their way into your life!  Fred is a Maltese (born 2020) and Ginger is a Morkie (Yorkie/Maltese mix, born 2023).  Here are a few things they have in common: House trained and leash trained.   Enjoy quality lap time and like to give kisses. They are bonded and need to be adopted together! Scared and nervous around small children (might be okay with older kids, age 13+). Do not enjoy being around other animals. VELCRO dogs - they stay by each other's side, but also with their person.  They will follow you around! Both will take off out the front door if given the opportunity.  You'll need to keep an eye on them and away from the door when allowing guests in. Must have secure fenced yard to safely explore and lounge in the sun when the weather is nice.  (They are both very small and escape artists!) Fred is very bonded to Ginger.  They were found as strays and Fred protects Ginger.  A calm person or couple who are home most of the day would be best for them.  Fred is crate trained and friendly with strangers.  He should be walked on a harness and not just the collar/leash as he pulls.  He finds comfort snuggling with a caring human - especially on their lap!  He loves to run the yard barking at passerby dogs.  He needs someone that won't mind having a little shadow following them around.     Fred and Ginger are both such sweet dogs and deserve a home where they get lots of love! The suggested adoption donation for both Fred and Ginger is $600, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Adoptions for Fred & Ginger are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that they can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainers.      Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. To learn about Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc.   If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital in Omaha, at no cost to you.  Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost.  If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice.  If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses.  [Muddy Paws can also suggest a vet with a reduced cost for alters.]  All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age.  All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.  Thank you in advance for your compliance. ##2585672##

Ginger enjoys being active, but also has a calm side.  She seems to be either fearful or unfriendly around dogs she doesn't know.  Her foster mom has attempted to introduce her and Fred to the resident dogs, but they growl.  Ginger loves to run the yard and bark at other dogs passing by.  She seems to be a velcro dog so she really needs to be with someone who will give her lots of love and allow her to be a little shadow.  She must be walked on a harness (NOT just a collar and leash) as she only weighs about 5 pounds.  She is very bonded to Fred and looks to him for protection. Story
This little ball of fluff is looking for a loving family that would like to have a loyal companion in the home.  Layla is a senior Maltese (possibly born in 2017, maybe a little older).  She is crate and leash trained and knows some commands.  She LOVES to go for walks!  She likes to have another dog companion in the house, but she would also do well as the only dog.  Layla plays well with a 2 year old Aussie/Border Collie - it just took a little time for Layla to warm up. Layla is friendly with other dogs, strangers and children.  Because of her size, she would probably be better with older kids (age 6+). The perfect home would have a fenced yard so she can explore.   Layla is usually calm and enjoys being a lap dog and giving kisses.   She will be found close by her humans whenever possible, following them wherever they go! The suggested adoption donation for Layla is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Good with dogs,
Story
Welcome to rescue, Bon Bon! This tiny Maltese (born July 2025) was in intensive care for 7 days and he made it through!!!  Bon Bon is definitely a fighter and has a lot of life to live.  He's getting LOTS of TLC and snuggles at his foster home.  He would love to have another pet in the home.  The resident dog at his foster home is a small poodle and he enjoys her company.  Bon Bon loves to play and has started to show he has a big personality for being such a little guy.  At bedtime, he has slept with his foster mom and also in a small gated area with the other dog.  He just needs a pal (human or otherwise) to feel safe. Bon Bon is a parvo survivor and has adjusted well to life at his foster home.  Once he is released from vet care, he will be ready for his next chapter!  We'll share updates and more information about Bon Bon as we learn more about him! Please Note:  Bon Bon came to rescue Parvo+ and won’t be able to go to his furever home until released from the vet as he will be “shedding” parvo until then.  We encourage you to apply to adopt so we can start the process now! The suggested adoption donation for Bon Bon is $750, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. If you have ANY QUESTIONS or are truly interested in adopting any animal from PAW Animal Shelter Please, fillout an adoption application FIRST!   WE are a high intake No Kill Shelter ran by a staff of 4 and do not always have time to answer every question asked by so many. If you are a good fit for the animal you are interested in -we will call to speak with you, If we feel you are not a good fit , we will contact you about other pets that may be a good fit for your home. Many people are losing the opportunity to adopt the animal they want because they fail to put in an application and the pet was adopted before we could answer your email. .If you have applied for an animal in our facility and have not received a response within 7 days, PLEASE call or contact us again. Though we do our best in trying to answer all emails in a timely manner, sometimes things get away from us, get lost or misplaced. It is never our intention to ignore a request about an adoptable animal in our facility. Sandy Brown, Director, PAW Animal Shelter 319-372-2274 ##2564786##
