Story
Torrey is a very private and non social dog. We are in a very busy house and she gets very scared by loud sounds, so she just hides under the bed all day every day. She comes out only to go to the bathroom. She's never bitten anyone or is mean, she just seems to hate living out here in our new house in the country. We are gone most nights or on weekends and she doesn't have anyone to give her the attention she deserves. She has a little bit of arthritis and likes to go for walks, but we don't have the time. Our other dogs are outdoor dogs and get their exercise that way. She is just really struggling at her advance age and just needs someone that can give her attention.

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Likes going on walks and will look to his people for confidence while out and about; may not like having her leash put on but is happy once she's on the walk - Doesn't like being picked up by people yet, but will snuggle on her people's laps on her own- Uses doggie steps to get up on furniture in her foster home - Has learned to use a doggie door to go outside to go potty - Will do best in a quiet, predictable home with a family who can let her open up at her own pace; still very shy but making progress each day in her foster home - Gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home and likes spending time outside in the fenced-in yard with them - Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age. Because of this, she may struggle with new situations, may show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, may need help understanding leashes, and will need patience and structure with housetraining. - Has done best with a "helper" dog when it comes to learning that people can be OK, and we recommend that she go to a home with another dog - May not do well in a busy home with young children All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Apricot Weight: 10.8 Age: 1yrs 6mths 1wks

Story
This is Remi, a sweet senior Maltese/Poodle mix, born appx June 2018.  The perfect home for Remi would be with a family who has no other pets unless it's a smaller dog.  She would do better in a quiet home with someone who can give her lots of love and attention.   Remi is usually calm, sometimes very lazy.  She is not very active and just needs a peaceful environment.  She would love to be one-on-one with someone, but has been in a home with teenagers.  She has also been known to be protective of her "person".  Remi is friendly with other dogs and gets along with kids. Remi will let you know when she has to go outside.  (Recently she's been a little scared of a larger dog in the home and had a few accidents from holding it too long.  We believe this issue should improve in a new environment and with a potty training refresher.)  Remi knows a few commands, when to go upstairs for bed, go outside, move rooms and time to eat.   Remi seems a little nervous in the car - she shakes during the ride and at the groomer.  Otherwise, she's not opposed to her regular check-ups and grooming. The suggested adoption donation for Remi is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Meet Ricky!!Ricky is an owner surrender thru no fault of his own. Ricky is a Maltese mix that is a little is shy and cautious when meeting new people but has gained confidence from being in a foster home. He`s good with the other small dogs at his home and has become playful! We do not know what he thinks of cats but is an avid bird and squirrel watcher. Given that Ricky is still needing some time to warm up to new people, a home with older children or no children may be best for him. He is doing well with going outside to potty but will also use potty pads if needed. He walks well on a leash but would love a home with a fenced yard where he can explore safely. Ricky can be quite vocal, so shared walls would not be the best fit for him. He does kennel at night in his foster home.If you would like to meet Ricky, please complete our online adoption application.

Story
Meet Oliver. He is a senior Maltese (born 2013) who still looks like a puppy. He's housetrained and good with cats and other dogs. He's a little cautious at first, but then he will be your best friend and follow you around.  Oliver loves to sleep in his foster mom's bed at night and snuggle! Oliver is nervous around younger children.  He is good in a home with older kids (age 13+). He is on prescription kidney food and subcutaneous fluids twice per week. Check out Oliver's new look after his trip to the groomer! The suggested adoption donation for Oliver is $300.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE.  Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION.  Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match.  If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet.  The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person.
