HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet him, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age. Because of this, she may struggle with new situations, may show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, may need help understanding leashes, and will need patience and structure with housetraining. - Handsome guy who is still quite reserved and will take a while to warm up; currently will sniff his foster family's hands and legs but is still reluctant to be touched or take treats out of their hands - Really lights up around his dog friends and loves to run and play in the snow with them; he likes to hear himself talk and lets his companions know when he wants to play - Not fully potty-trained yet, but has been doing well with pads in his foster home - Likes to chew on plush things - Loves chicken and boiled eggs as treats - Does best when he has at least one dog friend, and other dogs really help him build confidence and feel more comfortable; because of this, he must have a confident dog friend in his new home that he can continue learning from - Has done well with cats in his foster home - May not do well in a busy home with young children All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: White Age: 0yrs 9mths 0wks

Story
Fred is a spunky, loving Maltese boy, approximately 4 years old (born 2021). He is mostly potty pad trained and will potty outside. He loves to play with toys, hide & seek and snuggle with a human on the sofa. He’s not a big barker and a bit of a Velcro dog. He loves people. Fred was found as a stray along with his best friend Ginger. They are very bonded, as they survived on the streets together and never separated.  It is preferred they be adopted together. Fred has been fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.  He is ready for his forever home.  A home with no children and a secure, fenced-in yard is a must. He would prefer someone who is home most of the time and should not be kenneled/crated as he has crate anxiety.  It would be best for Fred and Ginger to be in a home as the only dogs so they can receive all of your love, however, they are accepting of other dogs. Fred is just a joy. He seeks to make his human smile and is a comical little fellow.  Just looking at him will make you smile. Here are a few things they have in common: House trained and leash trained.   Enjoy quality lap time and like to give kisses. They would enjoy a calm person who is home most of the time. They are bonded and need to be adopted together! Scared and nervous around small children (might be okay with older kids, age 13+). VELCRO dogs - they stay by each other's side, but also with their person.   Both will take off out the front door if given the opportunity.  You'll need to keep an eye on them and away from the door when allowing guests in. Must have secure fenced yard to safely explore and lounge in the sun when the weather is nice.  (They are both very small and escape artists!) Fred is friendly with strangers.  He should be walked on a harness and not just the collar/leash as he pulls.  He finds comfort snuggling with her person and he loves to run the yard barking at passerby dogs.  He needs someone that won't mind having a little shadow following them around.     The suggested adoption donation for both Fred and Ginger is $600, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Adoptions for Fred & Ginger are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that they can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainers.      Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Ginger is a snuggly, loving Maltese/Yorkie mix, approximately 2 years old (born 2023). She is potty pad trained and will potty outside. Ginger’s favorite place in the world is either on a lap or next to you on the sofa. She is playful, however, being next to her human is what she longs for. Ginger was found as a stray along with her best friend Fred. They are very bonded, as they survived on the streets together and never separated.  It is preferred they be adopted together. It would be best for Fred and Ginger to be in a home as the only dogs so they can receive all of your love, however, they are accepting of other dogs. Ginger has soulful eyes and is the most pleasant little girl. She will warm your heart with every hug.   Fred and Ginger are ready to dance their way into your life!  They are both such sweet dogs and deserve a home where they get lots of love! Here are a few things about them: House trained and leash trained.   Enjoy quality lap time and like to give kisses. Scared and nervous around small children (might be okay with older kids, age 13+). Story
This little ball of fluff is looking for a loving family that would like to have a loyal companion in the home.  Layla is a senior Maltese (possibly born in 2017, maybe a little older).  She is crate and leash trained and knows some commands.  She LOVES to go for walks!  She likes to have another dog companion in the house, but she would also do well as the only dog.  Layla plays well with a 2 year old Aussie/Border Collie - it just took a little time for Layla to warm up. Layla is friendly with other dogs, strangers and children.  Because of her size, she would probably be better with older kids (age 6+). The perfect home would have a fenced yard so she can explore.   Layla is usually calm and enjoys being a lap dog and giving kisses.   She will be found close by her humans whenever possible, following them wherever they go! The suggested adoption donation for Layla is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.   Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.   Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost. If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, the adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice. If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses. All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.   ##2588508##
