If you have ANY QUESTIONS or are truly interested in adopting any animal from PAW Animal Shelter Please, fillout an adoption application FIRST!   WE are a high intake No Kill Shelter ran by a staff of 4 and do not always have time to answer every question asked by so many. If you are a good fit for the animal you are interested in -we will call to speak with you, If we feel you are not a good fit , we will contact you about other pets that may be a good fit for your home. Many people are losing the opportunity to adopt the animal they want because they fail to put in an application and the pet was adopted before we could answer your email. .If you have applied for an animal in our facility and have not received a response within 7 days, PLEASE call or contact us again. Though we do our best in trying to answer all emails in a timely manner, sometimes things get away from us, get lost or misplaced. It is never our intention to ignore a request about an adoptable animal in our facility. Sandy Brown, Director, PAW Animal Shelter 319-372-2274 ##2796627##

Story
HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet him, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where he did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age; because of this, he may struggle with new situations, show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, need help understanding leashes, and need patience and structure with housetraining - Prefers to come to you vs. you coming to him; if other dogs are being petted, he'll absolutely nudge his way in for cuddles - Likes to be near you, but not on you; if you're looking for a companion dog, he'd be great, but if you're looking for a lap dog, he's not your guy - Can be pretty vocal when someone new comes over, but he quiets down in a minute and wants to be near them - Has learned to use a doggie door to go outside to potty - Likes to chew on plush toys, and loves chicken and boiled eggs as treats - Was a good boy for a recent haircut and bath in his foster home- Gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home, as well as the neighbor dogs that come over to visit; likes spending time with them and really relaxes around them; we recommend that he go to a home with another dog - May not do well in a busy home with young children The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: White Weight: 15 Age: 1yrs 3mths 2wks

Story
Meet Bob and Bonnie!Bonnie and Bob, our bonded duo, came to us from a rescue after receiving them from a breeder. They are still learning what it means to be loved pets, but are currently shy and unsocialized. They have not mastered walking on a leash and would do best in a home with a secure, physical fenced yard where they can safely potty, play, and learn new skills. They’re comfortable using potty pads, but will need a patient adopter willing to teach them new routines and skills at their own pace. Fast movements and loud noises can be scary for them, so a calm, adult-only home with gentle guidance would be best. They don’t do well with small dogs but may thrive alongside a larger, confident dog who can help show them the ropes. Bonnie and Bob would just need proper introductions to other animals to make sure everyone gets along well. With Bonnie and Bob being considered high maintenance due to their grooming needs, and since they have not had experience with a groomer, they will need to be groomed with sedation or medication from a vet until they have had time to trust new experiences. They are looking for someone who understands that progress may be slow and that their affection may look different than most other dogs. With time, consistency, and compassion, these two will learn to blossom into wonderful companions for someone that is ready to help them feel safe and loved.

Story
Meet Oliver. He is a senior Maltese (born 2013) who still looks like a puppy. He's housetrained and good with cats and other dogs. He's a little cautious at first, but then he will be your best friend and follow you around.  Oliver loves to sleep in his foster mom's bed at night and snuggle! Oliver is nervous around younger children.  He is good in a home with older kids (age 13+). He is on prescription kidney food and subcutaneous fluids once per week. Check out Oliver's new look after his trip to the groomer! The suggested adoption donation for Oliver is $300.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE.  Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION.  Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match.  If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet.  The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter.  We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs.  If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.
