HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age; has been making tons of progress in her foster home but may still struggle with new situations - Still quite shy, although she really wants to connect and make friends; looking for a patient person who will give her lots of time to settle in and form a relationship with them - it will take time, but it will be so rewarding to gain her trust and watch her confidence grow - A TOTAL goofball when the lights go out; her foster family said they've watched her on their camera as she prances around, explores and plays with their other dogs - Loves yard time and may enjoy a fenced yard, especially as she continues getting more comfortable with a leash - Foster family said for potty training, she is good about going outside about 75% of the time and otherwise goes on her potty pads - Has done well when her foster family is gone and they said she would likely do well in either an apartment or house setting - Loves exploring, eating any kind of treat and settling in her "nest" and observing - Overall does well in the car- Will do best in a home with more mature family members who will give her time to acclimate and help her continue to gain confidence - Has done best with a "helper" dog when it comes to learning that people can be OK and has been fantastic - playful and very respectful - with the dogs in her foster home; we recommend that she go to a home with another dog All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: White Weight: 13 Age: 3yrs 7mths 0wks

Story
Meet Bonnie and Bob!Bonnie and Bob, our bonded duo, came to us from a rescue after receiving them from a breeder. They are still learning what it means to be loved pets but are currently shy and unsocialized. They have not mastered walking on a leash and would do best in a home with a secure, physical fenced yard where they can safely potty, play, and learn new skills. They’re comfortable using potty pads but will need a patient adopter willing to teach them new routines and skills at their own pace. Fast movements and loud noises can be scary for them, so a calm, adult-only home with gentle guidance would be best. They don’t do well with small dogs but may thrive alongside a larger, confident dog who can help show them the ropes. Bonnie and Bob would just need proper introductions to other animals to make sure everyone gets along well. With Bonnie and Bob being considered high maintenance due to their grooming needs, and since they have not had experience with a groomer, they will need to be groomed with sedation or medication from a vet until they have had time to trust new experiences. They are looking for someone who understands that progress may be slow and that their affection may look different than most other dogs. With time, consistency, and compassion, these two will learn to blossom into wonderful companions for someone that is ready to help them feel safe and loved.

Story
Meet Ricky!!Ricky is an owner surrender thru no fault of his own. Ricky is a Maltese mix that is a little is shy and cautious when meeting new people but has gained confidence from being in a foster home. He`s good with the other small dogs at his home and has become playful! We do not know what he thinks of cats but is an avid bird and squirrel watcher. Given that Ricky is still needing some time to warm up to new people, a home with older children or no children may be best for him. He is doing well with going outside to potty but will also use potty pads if needed. He walks well on a leash but would love a home with a fenced yard where he can explore safely. Ricky can be quite vocal, so shared walls would not be the best fit for him. He does kennel at night in his foster home.If you would like to meet Ricky, please complete our online adoption application.

Story
Hi, I`m Snarl the Toi Leo. Don`t be fooled by my name! I am not sure why my previous owner named me Snarl, because I am the sweetest angel you`ll ever meet! I am a 14lb boy who has a calm personality and wants to please humans and other dogs. I am a little scared since I didn`t spend a lot of time in a normal house before coming to A Heinz, but I`m learning how to do everything very quickly. I am already starting to use the outdoors potty and copying the other dogs ouside. I am happy to wear my diaper while I`m learning. I like toys and other dogs, but I`m a little scared of loud noises. Because I don`t walk on a leash yet, I might not be able to go to a house without a fence, but my foster mom will try to work on leash walking. For right now, I need a fence.I had a little injury to my mouth as a young pup that damaged my lip, but I`m still just as cute as ever and it doesn`t hurt me. I hope you will choose me as your future fur baby!
