Story
Meet Leonardo: The Artist with a Colorful Past!   Straight from a high kill shelter and right into our hearts, Leo is a 14 pound, roughly 3 year old mutt masterpiece. Once spray painted in bright blues and pinks and abandoned as a matted little mess on the streets of Texas, this resilient boy has washed away his past and is ready to paint a brand new future.   Leo considers himself a true expressionist. His mediums? Love, loyalty, and the occasional perfectly executed sit for treats. Housebroken, leash trained, and wonderfully well mannered, this talented gentleman has fully mastered the fine art of being a very good boy. He doesn’t love being in the crate yet, but he eventually settles in when needed.    Leo gets along great with other dogs and would likely do well with kids, though there aren’t any in his foster home. Despite everything he’s been through, he remains playful, sweet, charming, and affectionate. This cutie is ready to trade in street art chaos for couch cuddle serenity!    Leo is neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped, freshly groomed, and ready to meet you! His adoption donation fee is $400. Please apply directly on our website in the dropdown menu at havenanimalrescuenebraska.org PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you.  Thank you for choosing adoption!! February 7, 2026, 9:45 pm

Story
Tia got her first groom last Friday and did great! This special girl has come so far since joining rescue. Tia is a 10yr old Maltese mix who was surrendered from a puppy mill back in November. Shes been working in her socializing and learning what a house is. Tia is not your typical dog. She does well with puppy pads and does enjoy her outside time. Tia is still learning that humans are ok. And we don't blame her. When you spend the first 7yrs of your life in a puppy mill; it changes you. Thankfully her puppy having days are over. Tia is fully vetted. She will require a calm home with understanding people who get that shes not a lap dog. Her family will need to understand that she has to take things at her pace. Her kennel is her safe spot. She loves to watch her foster siblings and resident dogs from the comfort of her doggy bed in the safety of her kennel. She's been thru somethings and patience is the key with her. Her trust cant be rushed, it has to be earned. She would do best with another dog her size for a companion that she can learn from. She maybe older but she deserves to live the rest of her life in comfort and safety. With unconditional love, patience and understanding. #nonprofitanimalrescue #puppymillsurvivor #fosteringsaveslives #cuteness #fosterpuppylove #fosterpuppiesofinstagram #survivorstrong

Story
Cheerio is a friendly little Maltese, born in 2021.  He gets along with other dogs. cats and kids of all ages.  Cheerio is leash trained and he knows some commands.  He needs a fenced yard to stretch his legs. His eyesight is not that great, but he has no problem getting around. Cheerio would love to be in a home where he is not left alone for long periods of time.  He would be okay with or without other friendly animals.  He loves to spend time with his people and will happily take a nap in your lap.  Cheerio also needs someone who will take care of his grooming needs (Maltese need regular grooming). Cheerio is house trained and crate trained.  He had a UTI about a year ago and started marking.  He saw the vet, took medication and is healthy now, but still tends to mark from time to time.  He will benefit from potty training at his new place and maybe even a belly band! We would love to find this guy just the right home!  Please consider adopting Cheerio and apply today.   The suggested adoption donation for Cheerio is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
This is Remi, a sweet senior Maltese/Poodle mix, born appx June 2018.  The perfect home for Remi would be with a family who has no other pets unless it's a smaller dog.  She would do better in a quiet home with someone who can give her lots of love and attention.   Remi is usually calm, sometimes very lazy.  She is not very active and just needs a peaceful environment.  She would love to be one-on-one with someone, but has been in a home with teenagers.  She has also been known to be protective of her "person".  Remi is friendly with other dogs and gets along with kids. Remi will let you know when she has to go outside.  (Recently she's been a little scared of a larger dog in the home and had a few accidents from holding it too long.  We believe this issue should improve in a new environment and with a potty training refresher.)  Remi knows a few commands, when to go upstairs for bed, go outside, move rooms and time to eat.   Remi seems a little nervous in the car - she shakes during the ride and at the groomer.  Otherwise, she's not opposed to her regular check-ups and grooming. The suggested adoption donation for Remi is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Story
Fred is a spunky, loving Maltese boy, approximately 4 years old (born 2021). He is mostly potty pad trained and will potty outside. He loves to play with toys, hide & seek and snuggle with a human on the sofa. He’s not a big barker and a bit of a Velcro dog. He loves people. Fred was found as a stray along with his best friend Ginger. They are very bonded, as they survived on the streets together and never separated.  It is preferred they be adopted together. Fred has been fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.  He is ready for his forever home.  A home with no children and a secure, fenced-in yard is a must. He would prefer someone who is home most of the time and should not be kenneled/crated as he has crate anxiety.  It would be best for Fred and Ginger to be in a home together, but they might be okay in a home with another dog.  They seem to be accepting of other dogs. Fred is just a joy. He seeks to make his human smile and is a comical little fellow.  Just looking at him will make you smile. Here are a few things they have in common: House trained and leash trained.   Enjoy quality lap time and like to give kisses. They would enjoy a calm person who is home most of the time. They are bonded and need to be adopted together! Scared and nervous around small children (might be okay with older kids, age 13+). VELCRO dogs - they stay by each other's side, but also with their person.   Both will take off out the front door if given the opportunity.  You'll need to keep an eye on them and away from the door when allowing guests in. Must have secure fenced yard to safely explore and lounge in the sun when the weather is nice.  (They are both very small and escape artists!) Fred is friendly with strangers.  He should be walked on a harness and not just the collar/leash as he pulls.  He finds comfort snuggling with her person and he loves to run the yard barking at passerby dogs.  He needs someone that won't mind having a little shadow following them around.     The suggested adoption donation for both Fred and Ginger is $600, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Story
Ginger is a snuggly, loving Maltese/Yorkie mix, approximately 2 years old (born 2023). She is potty pad trained and will potty outside. Ginger’s favorite place in the world is either on a lap or next to you on the sofa. She is playful, however, being next to her human is what she longs for. Ginger was found as a stray along with her best friend Fred. They are very bonded, as they survived on the streets together and never separated.  It is preferred they be adopted together. Ginger has soulful eyes and is the most pleasant little girl. She will warm your heart with every hug.   Fred and Ginger are ready to dance their way into your life!  They are both such sweet dogs and deserve a home where they get lots of love!
