Story
Meet Maisy! Maisy is a 5-year-old Mastiff mix with a heart as big as her paws! She came to us as a stray from Sumpter, severely underweight and clearly having been through a lot. But oh, how far she's come! With time, love, and plenty of good meals, Maisy has transformed into a healthy, happy pup who's ready for her forever home. Despite her tough start, Maisy's outlook on life is nothing short of amazing. She's always wiggly with excitement to see people and has never met a stranger-she's as friendly and affectionate as they come. Her favorite things? Stuffy toys (even if they only last a few minutes), snacks (she's very food motivated), and simply hanging out with her humans. Maisy is still learning the ropes of home life, including potty training and basic manners, but her eagerness to please and strong bond with her people make her a great student. She's mellow by nature and prefers relaxed exploration in the yard over high-energy activities. While she hasn't quite figured out how to "play" just yet, we can tell she's curious and interested-and with time, she might just become a pro! She's currently unsure around other dogs but has done fine in calm playgroups, mostly keeping to herself. If you already have a dog at home, we're still happy to consider a meet-and-greet to see how they might get along. As for cats-we're not sure yet. Maisy would do best in a moderately active home, possibly with older kids and maybe a laid-back dog sibling. Most importantly, she needs a patient and loving family who can help her continue her journey from survivor to spoiled companion. If you're looking for a sweet, soulful, easygoing girl to share your heart and home with-Maisy might just be your perfect match. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to meet Maisy, please submit an application for her on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. She is spayed, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on monthly flea & tick prevention. Maisy is currently heartworm positive, and has begun her treatment as of 5/8/25. FMAR covers the full cost of heartworm treatment and works with Home Care Veterinary Services for the treatment. You're still encouraged to apply to adopt Maisy! We'll work closely with you to ensure her treatment continues smoothly and she gets everything she needs to thrive in her new home. Her treatment after adoption would continue through HCVS until successfully completed. Her adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care she has received. **Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Story
Meet Leo — A Gentle Giant Learning to Trust AgainLeo is a 134-pound Mastiff who came to us as a stray, carrying both his massive size and the weight of a difficult past. It’s clear from his body language and sensitivities that Leo has experienced hardship before finding his way to us, and because of that, he’s still learning that the world—and the people in it—can be kind.Leo has what we lovingly call a few “no-no spots,” areas on his body that have become sensitive over time and are best avoided. Respecting his boundaries is essential, and when that respect is given, Leo responds with quiet trust and deep loyalty. Once you earn his confidence, he is steadfast and devoted—this is a dog who will never turn on someone he trusts.Despite his size and his record-breaking drool (truly impressive), Leo’s nature is gentle and sweet. He’s not looking for chaos or constant activity—he’s looking for safety, consistency, and someone who understands that healing takes time. He would thrive in a calm, adult-only home with an experienced large-breed handler who can read his cues, honor his limits, and continue helping him rediscover joy at his own pace.Leo may not be the right fit for every home—but for the right person, he has the potential to be an incredibly meaningful companion. If you believe in giving dogs the space and patience they deserve, Leo may just be waiting for you.If you would like to meet Leo, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care he has received.**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Daisy She was born around December of 2024/ Mastiff Mix | Playful, Sweet, and Ready to Bloom Looking for a goofy, loving sidekick who’s equal parts cuddlebug and adventure buddy? Meet Daisy—a young Mastiff mix (maybe with a little Cane Corso and Southern hunting dog in her roots) who’s as fun as she is unique. Daisy came to us after her previous owner made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her in order to care for a family member battling stage 4 cancer. While she may have lost her first home, Daisy hasn’t lost her joy—this girl is all wagging tails, play bows, and puppy kisses. She’s a petite powerhouse for a Mastiff (shes still 80 pounds haha) mix, but don’t let her size fool you—Daisy is full of energy, love, and personality. She’s already shown how great she is with kids and had a blast playing with a large male dog. Her perfect match? A home with another playful pup or an active human who’s ready to run, romp, and laugh along with her. Still in her puppy phase, Daisy is eager to learn, bond, and bring light to the lucky family who gives her a forever home. Good with older kids - Just becasue of her size and playfulness  Dog-friendly (especially with playful, large companions!) Young, active, and tons of fun This sweet girl is ready to put down roots. Could you be the sunshine in Daisy’s next chapter?Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 29, 2025, 11:08 am
