We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://us14b.sheltermanager.com/onlineform_view?formid=46) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will continue to perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Meet Mabel!!!! THE SWEETEST DOG EVER!!! Sadly Mabel found herself as a stray and ended up at an overcrowded shelter. She was found with wounds from head to toe, completely emaciated from hunger, signs that lead us to believe she was overbred, and lastly heartworm positive. With all of these things stacked against her, we knew her odds of getting out of the shelter ALIVE, were slim. One of wonderful foster families stepped up to temporarily foster her and the rest is history. Mabel is putting on weight nicely, is now up to date on vaccines and spayed. So now we are looking for her FUREVER home to FOSTER to ADOPT her while she goes through heartworm treatment. (Heartworm disease is NOT contagious to your other pets and we PAY for the treatment) Mabel is a PERFECT dog! She is sweet, calm and loving! She is SUPER smart and is both crate and potty trained as well. She is dog and kid friendly, although we are not sure about cats as she has chased the cats in her current foster home a few times. So if you are looking to ADD a GORGEOUS and WONDERFUL dog to your family, APPLY TODAY! Mabel is TRULY a catch!!! *Estimated to be 2 years old *50 lbs., but has plenty of weight to gain *UTD on vaccines & Spayed *Potty Trained *Dog & Kid Friendly (Not sure about cats yet) *Rides GREAT in the car *LOVES to cuddle APPLY TODAY!!! Story
I was born 9/22/23. I am learning thr ropes at my foster home. I live with two older dogs and cats. I also get to play with a Golden Retriever and Boxer on the weekends and love it. I am a bit shy at first but my people are working on this. I will go in a crate when my foster family leaves but I do not sleep in it at night. I am doing very well on my potty training. I love toys.

Knows Basic Commands: Sit, but we’re working on it. Energy Level (Couch Potato, Moderate or High): Moderate Special Needs: None Physical Fence: Preferred / No Invisible Fences Nickname: Brock-Lobster Likes long walks, Sunbathing, Taste-Testing Arrival story: Brock was pulled from Detroit Animal Control Approximate age / Weight: 10-ish Years young, 95 LBS Hey guys - I’m so excited to meet you! I’m Brock! I’m about 10 years young, but my foster parents think I may be a bit younger. I love going for walks and am great on leash! I enjoy trotting around town checking out new spaces. I get bursts of energy throughout the day, so walks or playtime are needed so I can enjoy my best life. I’d probably enjoy adventuring, but I'm perfectly content to just lounge around. I love playing tug or chasing the ball outside or just relaxing and chewing on Benebones or other chews. Pigs ears and bully sticks are my absolute favorite. I’m also a bit of a foodie! I love trying new foods, but watch out! Sometimes I get over excited about treats and get a little too chompy, so watch your fingers. I love everyone I meet, but because of my size and energy around taking treats, I would do better in a home with teenagers or adults. I look forward to meeting you and hope I can become a special part of your family. Contact: Please contact wtdr@waggintailsdogrescue.org with any questions or submit adoption application via our website www.waggintailsdogrescue.org/adoption-application. ADOPTION INFO: We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar on our website for the date and time of the next adoption event. Arrangements can be made to meet a dog outside of adoption events after an application is submitted and approved. Our adoption process includes an application and in-home meet-n-greet with the dog. ADOPTION FEE Adult Dogs (over 6 months of age) $250 + $50 refundable Training deposit, if applicable. Puppies (under 6 months) $250 + $50 refundable Spay/Neuter deposit + $50 refundable Training deposit. Senior Dogs $125 +$50 refundable Training deposit, if applicable. **Please note: We encourage all newly adopted dogs to attend basic training (positive reinforcement) class with their adopters as it starts everyone off the right way and helps to build a trusting bond between dog and adopter. In most cases, this will be a requirement and a $50 refundable Training deposit fee will be applied to adoption and refundable upon proof of class completion.

Story
Meet Kenai! This adorable little guy is waiting to find his forever home. Maybe when he is older he will be your best hiking partner? Or maybe just a walk around the block and some quality playtime might be your style? He is sure to enjoy either. He loves toys, and treats, and receiving all of the cuddles he can get. Keep in mind that Kenai is still a puppy and has a lot to learn about the world, and about being a dog. So be patient with him! Come say hello, and you may just fall for this sweet little guy.
