Story
Bitsie, an 8-year-old mastiff mix who needed a new home after her owner passed away. She had been living in very poor conditions and arrived obese, with severe foot infections, patchy hair, and other health issues. Although our building was full, ABF helped by arranging veterinary care, providing supplies, and eventually placing her in temporary foster care. Over several months, Bitsie underwent extensive testing and treatment for a persistent bacterial and staph infection in her feet, as well as a UTI and hyperthyroidism. After multiple medication adjustments and specialist visits, her condition gradually improved. As of October, her infection has drastically decreased, her pain has subsided, she is now thriving on a maintenance regimen. She's transformed into a healthier, happier dog. Bitsie continues her Thyro tabs for her hyperthyroidism and Ketoconazole and Sporimune to maintain the care of her feet. Bitsie for the first time is like a puppy. She is enjoying life. She has always given sloppy kisses, but even more now that she feels good. Bitsie runs around the yard, tossing her toys up in the air, chasing balls and rolling in the grass. She also loves car rides and thinks she is a lapdog. I know she has had a long journey to get where she is today and may have to continue some medications, but we are still going to hold out hope that someday she can have her own family. She is very strong, active, smart and wants to please you. Bitsie needs a family that can train her and love her for the rest of her life.

Story
Daisy is a Pitbull Mastiff born on Memorial Day 2020. She’s been part of our family since she was a pup. Daisy loves going on walks, cuddling, and playing fetch though she does not always return the toy. She is loving, a gentle girl who loves human touch and company. She can be anxious at times, especially when she spends too much time alone. I have recently gone through a divorce and life is very busy with my son and more work hours. Daisy spends too much time alone and I cannot take her for walks anymore. I cannot give her the life she deserves. It breaks my heart to do this because I do not want to give her up but I know she can do much better and I need to focus on my son and our new life.

Story
Enid is about four years old and, without reading ahead, go ahead and guess what specific breeds she is. There are five! Drumroll, please... Enid is bull mastiff, Neapolitan mastiff, German shepherd, cane corso, and labrador retriever! All of those in 70 pounds of cuteness. Enid loves laying in the grass, playing fetch (but not so much bringing the item back to you), chewing on sticks, sleeping on her back, getting belly rubs, riding in cars, and hanging out with her people. She is also a fan of playing in water from the hose or in a kiddie pool. However, don't ask Enid to step outside to potty in the rain unless you're willing to go out with her! She is super smart and already knows sit, shake, down, place, kennel, come, look at me, through the legs, and wait (for food). Squeaky toys will motivate her; toys, not as much. Go figure! Because Enid is such a smarty pants, keeping her mind busy helps to keep her out of mischief. While she can't do crossword puzzles, she is really good at snuffle mats, lick mats, and peanut butter stuffed Kongs! If you're looking for a super snuggly, Velcro pooch, Enid is not that. She's fairly independent but will seek out pets and attention. She also likes to sleep in her human's bed sometimes, if she's not napping in her own dog bed. Do you think Enid might be the peas to your carrots? The jelly to your peanut butter? Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 for more info! She's in the KC metro, but transport might be available to the right home.

Story
Gudol’s story is nothing short of remarkable. He was rescued from a Korean meat farm after a wildfire burned the facility to the ground. Out of all the dogs there, only seven survived—and Gudol was one of them. Thanks to our partners at Humane World for Animals, he was brought to safety and given a second chance at life. Because he never had the chance to just be a dog, everything is new—soft beds, treats, toys, and even the idea that humans can be kind. He’s still learning at his own pace, and every day we see his confidence and curiosity growing. One thing we already know? Gudol absolutely loves other dogs. He lights up around canine friends and learns best by following their lead. Having a dog buddy makes him feel more relaxed and brave, and his dog-friendly spirit has already made him a staff favorite. Gudol may need patience and understanding as he settles into home life, but he has a gentle heart, a resilient spirit, and so much love ahead of him. If you’re looking to change a life—and gain a deeply loyal friend in return—Gudol may be the perfect match. Gudol's adoption fee is waived.
