This gentle lug is fully crate-trained—though a little hesitant to go in at first, a toy will convince him, and once inside, he settles quietly. He’s also potty trained and will patiently sit by the door to let you know when it’s time to go out. A dream passenger in the car, Compton enjoys gazing out the window or relaxing for the ride. He walks beautifully on a loose leash and has done well with the few dogs he’s met, suggesting he could be a great canine companion with proper introductions. Hi all! I’m Toaster! My friends call me Toast for short. I’m not really sure how I got my name. Although the more that I think about it, maybe it’s because when you meet me, I will make your heart all warm and toasty? Yes, I think maybe that HAS to be it! Mystery solved! Although since I solve mysteries so well, maybe I should have been named Scooby Doo! Anyhow, before I get distracted, let me tell you some things about me. I’m about 5 years old and they think I’m a mastiff or Cane Corso mix. So I’m kind of a big guy! But that doesn’t mean I have a big head! I mean, PHYSICALLY I do have a big head. What I mean is I don’t have a big head like a big ego. Gosh, sometimes it’s difficult to communicate in human. Really, I’m just a happy guy, who is extremely curious about new things. I love going on walks and checking everything out with my nose. I really love checking out storm drains and sewers. I mean, you never know what might be living in them! I seem to like to meet new people on my walks, too. I usually walk quite nicely on the leash unless I see something I really want to check out, and then I forget not to pull. It’s hard to remember to walk nicely when you seek something really interesting! But I’m more than happy to work on my leash manners a bit. I absolutely love riding in the car, and I am VERY well behaved riding in the car. I also love to play with toys like tennis balls and stuffies. I will admit, I sometimes think I’m the size of a puppy and I often get bouncy like a puppy! And I’ve been known to do zoomies when I get really excited. It seems to make everyone laugh. And I sure like making people laugh. I’ve been known to give big slurpy kisses and to “hug” people when I think they need it. So I hope you like kisses and hugs. I like when humans pet me, but I much prefer booty scratches to head scratches. (I’ll let you in on a little secret; many dogs prefer that!) I think there’s almost nothing as good as a good booty scratch. Except maybe car rides. I’m pretty good at sitting when asked, and I’m learning new things. I just haven’t had a whole lot of training with such requests, but I am receiving some now and I love to learn! Especially when learning is accompanied by some tasty treats! I am NOT a fan of cats. Well, I mean I AM a fan of CHASING cats, but that activity seems to be frowned upon. So I need a home without cats. In fact, I'd like to be your one and only pet, if you don't mind. Bitsie, an 8-year-old mastiff mix who needed a new home after her owner passed away. She had been living in very poor conditions and arrived obese, with severe foot infections, patchy hair, and other health issues. Although our building was full, ABF helped by arranging veterinary care, providing supplies, and eventually placing her in temporary foster care. Over several months, Bitsie underwent extensive testing and treatment for a persistent bacterial and staph infection in her feet, as well as a UTI and hyperthyroidism. After multiple medication adjustments and specialist visits, her condition gradually improved. As of October, her infection has drastically decreased, her pain has subsided, she is now thriving on a maintenance regimen. She's transformed into a healthier, happier dog. Bitsie continues her Thyro tabs for her hyperthyroidism and Ketoconazole and Sporimune to maintain the care of her feet. Bitsie for the first time is like a puppy. She is enjoying life. She has always given sloppy kisses, but even more now that she feels good. Bitsie runs around the yard, tossing her toys up in the air, chasing balls and rolling in the grass. She also loves car rides and thinks she is a lapdog. I know she has had a long journey to get where she is today and may have to continue some medications, but we are still going to hold out hope that someday she can have her own family. She is very strong, active, smart and wants to please you. Bitsie needs a family that can train her and love her for the rest of her life.

Due to Chili Mac's size and clumsiness, he would do best in a home with older children. He would also be best with someone who has breed/guardian experience given some mouthy behaviors which are normal for the breed. Chili Mac would love an active home with another dog friend or a human adventure buddy. Whether you’re hiking, road-tripping, or just lounging on the couch- as long as you don’t mind a little drool, he’s ready to be your ride-or-die!
