Story
Bitsie, an 8-year-old mastiff mix who needed a new home after her owner passed away. She had been living in very poor conditions and arrived obese, with severe foot infections, patchy hair, and other health issues. Although our building was full, ABF helped by arranging veterinary care, providing supplies, and eventually placing her in temporary foster care. Over several months, Bitsie underwent extensive testing and treatment for a persistent bacterial and staph infection in her feet, as well as a UTI and hyperthyroidism. After multiple medication adjustments and specialist visits, her condition gradually improved. As of October, her infection has drastically decreased, her pain has subsided, she is now thriving on a maintenance regimen. She's transformed into a healthier, happier dog. Bitsie continues her Thyro tabs for her hyperthyroidism and Ketoconazole and Sporimune to maintain the care of her feet. Bitsie for the first time is like a puppy. She is enjoying life. She has always given sloppy kisses, but even more now that she feels good. Bitsie runs around the yard, tossing her toys up in the air, chasing balls and rolling in the grass. She also loves car rides and thinks she is a lapdog. I know she has had a long journey to get where she is today and may have to continue some medications, but we are still going to hold out hope that someday she can have her own family. She is very strong, active, smart and wants to please you. Bitsie needs a family that can train her and love her for the rest of her life.

Meet Chili Mac!    This 11-month-old Cane Corso is a big, lovable goofball with a heart as giant as his paws! Chili Mac is equal parts cuddle bug and class clown — he’ll make you laugh one minute and melt into your lap the next.   He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he decides you’re cool, he’s all in! He’s great with dogs big and small (seriously — from 6 lbs to 120 lbs!), crate and potty trained, and already knows some basic commands.   Due to Chili Mac's size and clumsiness, he would do best in a home with older children. He would also be best with someone who has breed/guardian experience given some mouthy behaviors which are normal for the breed.   Chili Mac would love an active home with another dog friend or a human adventure buddy. Whether you’re hiking, road-tripping, or just lounging on the couch- as long as you don’t mind a little drool, he’s ready to be your ride-or-die!    If interested, please  complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Our $295 adoption fee includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Jose is approximately 5.5 years old and weighs roughly 60 lbs. Jose came to the shelter through law enforcement in an "animal neglect" case. He's good with men and women, but NOT good with other dogs--so he should be in a home without other dogs. Jose needs a home where he can learn to trust again and with someone who has the patience and consistency in training to allow him to live his best life.
