Story
At 136 pounds, Gemma is one of our bigger dogs here at HHS, and she has very quickly become a staff favorite! She bonds tightly to those who spend the most time with her and tends to be just a little shy first meeting new people. She`s really come out of her shell in her time with us, though.Gemma seems to do well around other dogs and doesn`t seem to mind children either. She`s definitely not the type that wants to go for long jogs and would probably rather just hang out with her person in the air conditioning! Can you blame her?If you`re interested in adopting this pretty girl, please give us a call to set up an appointment so we can introduce you to your next family member!

Story
Meet Carlton! He doesn`t do any silly dances, but he is just as goofy as his namesake. Carlton has a lot of energy, so it`s best to let him burn some of it off before walking him. He enjoys nice, long walks and is doing great learning leash manners. Carlton will `sit` politely for treats and accept them gently when offered. He loves toys! Carlton likes any kind of toy and enjoys running around the play yards with them in his mouth. He is gentle when taking toys and giving them back. He shows appropriate and playful behavior toward other dogs and would likely do well with a playmate. Come in and meet this affectionate goofball today!

Story
MISTY - 1-5 years old, 81 pounds, takes time to warm up to people, dog social Misty arrived at VBACAC as a stray. Who could be missing this long legged, beautiful brindle brown eyed girl? Having not been reclaimed, again, shocked here, she is available for adoption. Once this sweet girl knows you she is the biggest cuddle bug who just wants hugs and treats. It does take a proper introduction though so let's be prepared to go slow and not rush things for Misty. It will certainly pay off in the end as given the time and space to get settled in a new home with new family members and new friends, Misty will fit right in. She is dog social and loves to hang out and run with other friendly and respectful dogs. She can get rough and rowdy though, enjoying pinning down other dogs which other dogs may not appreciate. At VBACAC we carefully choose participants in our shelter playgroup and supervise at all times. Bring your friendly dog in for a meet and greet! Misty is currently in our large dog adoption kennel so come on in to meet her! Remember to allow her to proceed at her own comfortable pace.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 13, 2025, 1:48 pm

Story
Hazel is on the search for her forever family. She was brought back to the VBSPCA after being adopted as a puppy due to housing issues. She is a little nervous at first but warms up quickly. She would do best with children 10+ because she does forget her size at times. She does well with other canines and would need to meet any resident pups prior to adoption. Hazel is ready to go on all the adventures with her future family and would love for someone to help her burn her energy. If you would like to meet Hazel or have further questions please speak with our kennel staff and they will be happy to help!
