Filling out an application from our web site at www.caninecastaways.org  is the first step in adopting a new furry family member.IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE AT:   https://www.caninecastaways.org/adoption-application IF A PET IS LISTED THEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE - WE KEEP OUR LISTINGS UP TO DATE AND REMOVE AS SOON AS ADOPTED. NAME:  Finn BREED:  Poodle mix (has more scruffy hair - not non shedding) SEX:  male COLOR:  black AGE:  1 yr as 9/25/23 WEIGHT:  12.5 lbs  FOSTERED BY: LOCATED IN: NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY: Meet Finn, Finnegan, or Finny. Finn is the sweetest boy, that only aims to please. He will follow you around like a shadow whether on a leash or not. This little guy aims to please and he rarely repeats the same exact mistake twice. If you tell him “NO!” to something, he will steer clear, even if you’re not looking but you have the camera on him.  Finn would do best with a friend to play with - big or small, because he’s very playful. If your dog thinks humping other dogs is playing, Finn will teach them how to play right, because he doesn’t like that. After 10 years, he taught my dog how to play appropriately, and he’s very gentle with his lessons - no biting or aggression. He’s also very active and loves to play chase, and just play around the house. He will definitely exercise his house mate, he wears my senior dog out.  He’s very sweet and loving towards other animals. He lets my cat sass him and learned to just avoid my crotchety old cat, and he pounced on my parrot one time and acted like he was deeply sorry for the intrusion and never went near the birds again. If they fly over his head, he barely turns as if he’s trying not to startle them.  He is house trained and crate trained in my household - and very good with going out here - even if it’s raining, Finn doesn’t care - he will go out and do his business. Finn can learn tricks really easy and knows how to sit and lay down. He is very treat motivated. He loves adventure and is down for any trip you take him on. You can tie him around your waste and you won’t even know he’s there. He’s fine to sit in the backseat of the car and accustomed to using a seat belt for dogs.  We go on 2-3 mile walks at least five days a week and he handles them like a champ. He’s master of walking on a leash and will not pull, rather he will walk by your side. He can also lounge around with my senior dog on rainy days and stare out the window. He has energy, but he’s also a fan of lounging like a hound dog.  He does get distracted at times when in public, which we are working on, and his recall is 100%, but sometimes slow if he’s interested in something. Slow for me is a 10 second delay - I expect immediate recall, so a normal person would likely not notice and would be impressed with his training. If I tell him to drop something, it comes flying out of his mouth as if someone did the Heimlich maneuver on him.  He’s not the type of dog that you have to block the front door off to, if he goes out, he will do his business and come right back in when called. This is not a dog that will run away, he’s been trained by the most obedient and loyal of dogs. If he hops on the bed, he will look over for your approval, and if you’re busy he will curl in a little ball and give you your space. If you want to cuddle, you can extend your hand out and he will make contact and cuddle. He’s a good cuddle bug and will sit on you in seemingly uncomfortable ways, just to be near you.  He would make a great therapy dog. Finn will come to you very well trained, however, his one hang up - which is actually resolving or resolved (hard to say, because he’s never gotten into the same thing twice), is that he eats anything that he finds that he deems edible. He chews it well, but you do have to be careful leaving food items around. He’s never gotten into the same thing twice after getting in trouble for it, but new house, new things to find and try to eat. He ate the birds seeds on the floor in my house, but stopped after getting in trouble for it and now he won’t even walk down the hallway, where the bird room is. He also got into trash left at his level, but usually just chews rather than eats, unless it tastes good, I suppose. Short trash cans will need lids and if you so much as drop food on a mat, you will need to clean it or he might just chew up and eat the part of the mat where the food fell. I do believe that this has been or can be trained out of him, but there are only so many ways to challenge him with this.  At this time, we will only be able to process applications that have an excellent current vet history.  If you haven’t had a pet or verifiable vet history we will not be able to process your application.    If you are interested in adopting please complete our Adoption Application by copying and pasting the following link into your web browser: http://www.caninecastaways.org/adoption-application For a full list of dogs we currently have for adoption use this link:  https://www.caninecastaways.org/adoptable-dogs MEDICAL INFO: The following has been or will be done for this puppy at the appropriate age... - Basic Exam by Veterinarian - Spayed or Neutered - Placed on heartworm preventive - Basic Bloodwork - Microchipped - Intestinal Parasite Exam and medication - Vaccinations - Placed on flea preventive ADOPTION DONATION: $300 This adoption donation helps to cover the vet expenses for this puppy including heartworm preventive which is dispensed at the initial vet visit and then goes with the dog at adoption. Help us welcome Spunky, a 15 years young, 15 lb Poodle mix who says age is JUST A NUMBER!!! It's hard to believe Spunky is 15 years old and we suspect he may be younger given the zoomies he does around the house after a bath and his perfect health!! You may remember we scooped him up from the shelter after his family surrendered him. They could no longer care for him and we didn’t wait a second to say yes, we would help him. Now he is ready to find a home for his golden years. Spunky is good with other dogs and loves to meet all dogs when out walking. He is a perfect gentleman to the ladies - only sniffs their noses - they all LOVE him! 😂 And he loves to walk - it’s his favorite activity in the whole world. He is great on a leash — walks by your side and never pulls. Spunky is also fine with cats; he ignores them. Spunky is a very calm boy and follows his foster Mom around the house and will lay down by the door until she returns. He likes toys a bit and will play by himself. He does not get on furniture unless invited and then enjoys sitting next to his human or maybe in their lap but he does not like to be petted or touched. We don’t know what this poor boy went through in his previous life but he will cry out if touched- we suspect abuse/punishment and as such he is traumatized from years of it.Despite this all, he years to be by his human's side and is very happy to be sitting next to you and looking at you adoringly. He does tolerate having his head/ears scratched while collar/harness/leash are being put on/taken off because he loves to go outside. As Spunky has reached this senior age, it’s not unexpected that his hearing is limited. He is not a dog food traditionalist either 😂 and prefers chicken, rice and some vegetables. He has come around and will now eat most dog treats. This sweet boy has a big heart and is ready to give it to YOU if will open your home and heart to him. If you are interested in adopting Spunky, please complete an application through our website, www.floridacockerrescue.org. His adoption fee is $ 175.00.

Story
Help us welcome sweet Miles, a 12 yo, 14 lb miniature Poodle mix with special needs who just wants to be LOVED! Miles has a slight neurological condition that causes him to sway his head from side to side and affects his walking at times . We are looking for a home with one level living and a fenced-in yard. He is a very loving boy who gives kisses and feels most secure when his human is holding him or sitting with him on the couch. Miles is fine with other dogs and ignores cats. We have not observed him around children but due to his condition, he would do best in an adults only home where someone is home most of the day. Miles knows to go out to the yard to do his business and then wants to be brought back in. He loves his doggie bed and is the king of naps! If you are willing to open your home and heart to Miles, please complete an application through our website, www.floridacockerrescue.org. His ADOPTION fee is $150.

Story
What do you get when you cross a beagle with a poodle---you get a CURLY! Everyone say hi to our sweet 3 year old / 16 lb Curly boy. This incredible little guy is as sweet and lovable as his pictures capture. And he is a survivor!!! Curly came to us in deplorable shape after having been attacked by another dog ( or dogs) and his front leg and chest punctured.....but despite the pain that he was in Curly never stopped giving kisses to his attendants at the shelter. After sitting at the shelter for almost 4 days we knew we couldn't let him be euthanized so we ran to his rescue....and we have been blessed ever since as he is sooo special. Even his shelter attendants shed happy tears as we whisked Curly away and immediately took him to our vets for surgery. You could not meet a more loving and well behaved soul. He gets along great with dogs and just loves people once he knows them! His favorite spot is on foster mommy's lap LOL. Curly is now looking for his special and forever home where he will be loved as much as he will love you back...to the moon and back. If interested in adopting Curly please fill out an application at www.floridacockerrescue.org ADOPTION FEE: $350.00

Story
Little Libby was used to breed. She is in foster care and needs a great home. Libby is approximately 5 years old (might be younger) and 8LBS- Little note from her foster Dad: Libby is a petite bundle of joy with a zest for life and a heart full of love. Her favorite pastimes include sprinting around the backyard, chasing after her beloved toys, and enjoying leisurely tummy rubs that make her tail wag with sheer delight. When she's not romping around, Libby adores snuggling up close for some quality cuddle time or reveling in the bliss of gentle neck scratches. Libby has a medium-high energy level, perfect for both playtime adventures and cozy evenings curled up on the couch with her favorite humans. Libby is making fantastic progress with her potty training and is eager to continue learning in her forever home. She's already embracing her newfound freedom with enthusiasm and is excited to explore the world around her with her new family by her side. If you're searching for a sweet and affectionate canine companion who's as content frolicking in the yard as she is lounging on the sofa, then Libby is the perfect match for you. Come meet this precious poodle and discover the joy of having her as part of your family! Her adoption fee is $980.00 which include a dental. We would like an active lifestyle for little Libby. Please note we had to spay, vaccinate and do her dental.
