Story

Elliana They gave me a fancy name at last! Can you believe it? I have been used as a breeder dog for years and years and then dumped at the local pound with a mammary gland tumor that you could play tennis with!! Who does that!!! At least that is what my foster mom thinks my life has been like. I sat there in a cage at animal control for 4 weeks before anyone would think about pulling me out of there but my foster mom said that she had to take me home so that I would have a chance to be a beloved pet before I die. Not that I am planning to do that anytime soon, but you never know. Anyhow, I went to the vet right away and had that big nasty thing taken off my stomach and the vets knew right away what it was and what it was from. They took out the baby making bits as well, so I won’t have to go through having my babies and then losing them right away to being just a baby and money making factory for somebody. Sheesh….get a job!! I have some issues, I won’t lie, but I am starting to kind of get used to being out of a cage, where I learned to circle around and around as there wasn’t a lot of space in those things. I can walk in a straight line and the more I get time outside, the more I am enjoying the fresh air and smells in the grass. I will revert to circles when I am nervous but Rome wasn’t built in a day and I have only had freedom for a couple of months now. I don’t have many teeth, as the ones I did have were rotted and broken from trying to eat the bars I suppose. I startle easily from the lack of being held and loved in my former life, and will try to “gum” you if I pick me up too quickly. But speaking to me and touching me before you pick me up will let me know you are there and going to be gentle with me. I am still getting used to the being held part, and sometimes can’t tolerate it very long, but I am learning and going slow is really helpful to me. I am learning what good food tastes like, and what a soft bed feels like, and while I have pretty limited vision to see things, I can follow my nose and it helps me to find everything I need to get around. Foster mom leaves me a puppy pad to potty on in the house if I have to go at night, and I am pretty good at using it. It took a while to figure out that is what it was for, but also, if I potty outside after meals, I am good if I keep to a schedule. So that is my story. If you are interested in giving a blind old lady a soft landing for the rest of my life, let me know. Local adoption in Texas only please.

Story

Marty is being fostered in PA. 1-17-2026 Update for Marty Marty is doing really well in his foster home and is still a spunky little man with a bit of arthritis in his backend but it doesn't slow him down. Marty's hearing continues to be pretty good for his age and he is right in the mix of his foster siblings when Mom comes home after being out for any time. Marty's hair has grown in nicely on his back. He was almost bald when he came to his foster home. Marty's foster mom had never seen a change in a foster's personality quite as drastic as she did following Marty's dental, when all of his teeth had to be removed. Some teeth were so badly decayed that they had begun to calcify and attach to his jaw bones. After a few days of recovery, he began to eat and to be interested in the world. Marty eats soaked kibble with some soft food mixed in and eats every bite of each meal. He is now on 4 medications for his congestive heart failure and is doing very well with just an occasional cough. Fun facts about Marty: -He LOVES burrowing into beds that have a flap for him to crawl under -He is not safe when on furniture because he will quickly decide he wants off and give no warning and has no fear. -Marty never barks -Marty is smaller than the two cats in his foster home and really doesn't care. :) Little Marty is a sweet, easy-going little mini poodle guy who gets along with dogs and cats and people of all ages. His breed is guessed at as a full blooded mini poodle. His estimated age is about 13 but he's a very quick-stepping little man and enjoys exploring his environment, especially outside. He can find his way to the door and he was doing a great job at pottying outside until his foster mom went back to work a couple weeks ago. He will be very easy to get back in the habit of eliminating outside with a forever family who is home more. He's fairly easy to figure out in that, if he's up and exploring, he needs to go out. :) Marty has a very thin coat of fur on his torso but he does not have any visible skin issues and does not itch. His thyroid levels were checked and were fine. We know little about his past life so he may be recuperating from a past issue. Marty is leash trained and does well but because he's a small and older guy, walks won't be very fast. He also rides well in the car. At this time, he seems to enjoy dog bed hopping over being on a lap and he will walk right off the edge of a chair or bed. He needs to be carried up and down stairs and has no awareness of being at the top of stairs. He will remind his foster mom if his breakfast or dinner is overly late. Marty has had a slight cough since arriving in his foster home and following an xray on September 16th, it was discovered that his heart is slightly enlarged and he has a small amount of fluid in the upper portion of his one lung. These are both signs of congestive heart failure, which is fairly common in little old men like Marty. He will probably need to take Benazepril, Lasix and Pimobendan for the rest of his life. These medications run about 50.00 per month. Marty will have a dental on September 26th. He will probably need to have most, if not all, of his teeth extracted but it will be so much better for him to have a healthy mouth again! Marty will make a sweet little companion for some family. He's very excited to be spoiled and doted on for the rest of his days. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

She’s used to a leash and enjoys a walk or playing in a secure yard. Poppy will escape for an adventurer if she has a chance, she needs a savvy owner and secure yard. Poppy has potty skills but like all dogs, she will need a restart and routine to follow in a new environment . Poppy likes being near her people. She’s happy to play with other dogs but can be dominant over others that are more submissive. As a result, we want her to be the only dog in the household, no other dogs, cats or other animals. Like all dogs, she will need structure and a patient, loving home. We recommend training for all dogs —not only to give Poppy important learning skills, but because you and your dog will create a stronger bond just by going through the training together. Perry is an X- Puppy Mill Dog Needing a Patient Home That Will Help Him Blossom. Perry is an active young fella that is getting to know what life is like outside a puppymill. He has spent the first year of his life in a mill. He was released by the breeder who no longer wanted him. Perry has been with us about 4 months and during the time he has done very well adjusting to living in a home, not a cage. Puppy Mill dogs are not socialized and are afraid of many noises and sounds another dog has generally been exposed to. Each day is a new learning experience. Perry has learned his lessons well enough to begin a new life with a new family. Mill dogs MUST have fenced in yards for their potty place. This is not optional, This is for safety. They must have dog savvy families that have time and patience to earn a dog's trust. They also should be in adult homes that are very careful with doors, gates, etc,. to prevent door dashing. No one wants a lost dog, but we don't want a mill dog to take off. Perry will benefit from another respectful similar size and age dog in the family. Mill dogs understand dogs far better than people. Perry has more confidence with his mill buddy Gerry. Another dog in the family will help bring Perry out. Of course, you are welcome to adopt his mill buddy Gerry as well if you don't have a buddy for Perry yet. In time, Perry will benefit from training and might even be a candidate for agility training. Training is more than a skill set, it helps create a better bond and communication skill between human and dog which is even more important with a mill dog. What's crucial is that Perry needs a patient and caring owner who is willing to let her set him own pace. In just a couple of months in his new home, we believe Perry will begin to feel safe and fully relax into the household routine. Perry is expected to thrive in a home with either a gentle, respectful dog as well as having a family who is willing to spend a significant amount of time with him This companionship will help him feel more secure as he continues to adjust to her new environment. He MUST also have a fenced-in and gated yard as her potty place for his safety, given his shyer disposition. It's worth noting that once he does feel safe, he'll delight you with his charming poodle personality. Perry is crate trained and potty trained. That being said there is always a learning curve in a new home so please understand you will have some mishaps at first but most of the work is already done. Perry is 1 year old and fully vetted, He has been neutered, received age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and is heartworm negative, Subsequent vaccines are at the expense of his adopter His adoption donation is $800.00.
