Story
Looking at me, you may not notice that I am any different than other dogs. I am a quiet and calm little gentleman as one volunteer described me. I walk really well on leash and love taking in all the smells. You know, you have to slow down at times and just take the time to enjoy the moment with someone. So, all this to say that being visually impaired doesn't mean I can't enjoy the same things you do. There are various ways to "see" the world and well, you love with your heart.

Story
Snowy is a name that means "filled with frozen rain. Not sure how that fits me. I am an 8 year old, female, poodle mix who has most likely never been around frozen rain as I have spent my life in the heat of South Texas.I'm thought to be a maltipoo ( Maltese poodle mix) but since I was found foraging for food in a Cheetos bag, it is anyone's guess as to what kind of mix I am. Foster Mom named me Snowy because I am white as the driven snow and I seemed to respond to the name. Enough about my name.... and more about me. I am a huge lap dog. I love, love, love my people and want to be around them all the time. I like to be the center of attention and I paw my foster mom when she stops petting me. I like to play with foster mom but I don't seem to know what to do with toys. I also enjoy following foster mom around the house and sleeping in her bed ( can you say spoiled?). I get along with other dogs, big and small, but do not do well with cats. I would do best in a home with older children only and with owners who like to take me for walks. I should live in a house ( vs. a condo or apartment) since I like to bark at real and imagined things outside. I am crate and potty trained and ride well in the car. So, as you can see, I am an all around good dog that is all ready for my next chapter. Are you my next chapter? If so, have your peeps call my peeps and we'll get this love affair started.

Story
About this Dog: Name: Justin Breed: Poodle Approximate Age:   7 yr Gender:  Male Weight:  19 lb Adoption Fee:  $450 Why in Rescue:  Breeder Surrender Scroll down to learn more! Please fill out the adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog if you are interested in meeting one of our dogs.  Update:  Justin has progressed so far.  He still isn't comfortable walking on a leash or being carried, but happily follows the caretakers to go outside and come back in.  And now he loves to play with toys.  He is ready for a home to help him progress even further! Original Profile: Justin came from a commercial breeder who was no longer going to use him for breeding.  He is a shy/undersocialized dog that isn't sure about human contact yet but getting better every day.  He is NOT housetrained or leash trained.  Justin is a happy guy and while most dogs from commercial breeders enjoy the company of another dog, he would probably like to either be the only dog or have a female companion.  We tried pairing him up with another male and they didn't get along well.  He is neutered and got his teeth cleaned and is ready to go to the next step in her life.  He is ready to learn how great it will be to live with a family, he will just need a patient and loving adopter who will give him the time he needs.  A fenced in yard or at a minimum a potty area will be needed for him as well, so he can safely go outside to potty.  Please read the following information to learn about dogs from breeding facilities to make an informed decision if a retired breeder is right for you. Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often scared/shy/skittish), and probably never lived in a house.  They need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like television is.  They will need a patient adopter who will give them the time they needs to adjust and learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after being used the first part of their lives for making puppies.  A fence (or at least a fenced in potty area) is highly recommended and may be required for certain dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home and may be required in some cases. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html   We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.     The adoption procedures are listed below.  Priority is given to potential adopters who fill out the application on our website.  If a listing is on the adoption websites, we are still accepting applications.  The listing is removed once we have received a sufficient number of applications or the pet leaves the shelter.   Adoption Procedures: 1.  Completely fill out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog.  Any missing information may have us moving onto another application. 2.  If you application is approved, we will contact you to come meet the adoptables that you are interested in.   3.  If it is a match, you will complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee.  Please be prepared to take your adopted pet home when you come meet him/her.  In most cases, you will be able to take the pet home the same day.   4.  If you have filled out an application and we haven't contacted you within a week, we may have missed your application, the pet may have been adopted by another applicant, or you may have been missing information on your application.  You may contact us to find out the status of your application at this time.  Please give us a week to process your application before contacting us!   The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $200 - $500 depending on the age of the dog, which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $75 (up to $230 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc All dogs are seen BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Bichon and Little Buddies is run by volunteers who have full time jobs in addition to the hours they spend with the rescue dogs.  Having an application on file assures us that the potential adopter is really interested in adopting a dog.  It also assists us in placing dogs in homes where both the dog and new owners are happy.  The application puts you under no obligation to adopt a dog from Bichon and Little Buddies. The Dog Pre-Adoption Application can be found at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog Thanks for thinking about adopting your new pet!More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $75 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS May 28, 2023, 9:59 am
