Story
Say hello to Fozzie Bear (aka Fuzz Bucket or FB), a fuzzy half sheep, half muppet dog who’s 95 percent the sweetest boy and 5 percent a spicy little turd. Fozzie is about 8.5 years old and around 10 pounds, and we think he’s probably a Poodle mix of some kind (maybe Poodle-Shih Tzu?). He came into rescue after his owner passed away. Fozzie is mostly a typical dog who loves to go on walks and play with toys. He enjoys running around in the yard, but a home without a fenced yard wouldn’t be a deal-breaker as long as he got enough on-leash time outside. He seems to be fully house trained and hasn’t had a single accident in his foster home. What he needs more than anything is a home with patience. Fozzie’s biggest challenge is that he’s got some guarding behaviors, so he can get a little snippy under specific circumstances, like when he’s laying next to one person on the couch, and another person tries to pet him or get him off the couch. His evil twin also sometimes shows up at the groomer or the vet, and occasionally around food if other dogs enter his personal space. His little outbursts are relatively few and far between as long as he stays on his medications (fluoxetine and trazodone), and outside of the occasional tiff with the house dogs, he’s done pretty well with all of them. He desperately wants to be friends with the house Chihuahua, but she’s also a bit of a turd and so that hasn’t worked out so well for Fozzie. She’s toothless and still manages to boss him around somehow. Despite his imperfections, Fozzie is a wonderful little dog with a ton of love to give. Here’s what we think he needs in a new home to be successful: - An adult-only home. We think children won’t have the maturity to understand that dogs are allowed to have boundaries, too. - A home where someone is around most of the time. Fozzie can be an insecure little fella, and being alone too long stresses him out. He’s never been destructive in any way, even with run of the house, but he’s not the kind of dog who would be happy or comfortable being home alone for 8 or 10 hours several days a week. - A home with dog experience that is willing to work with and around his quirks. Fozzie and his previous owner worked very successfully with a trainer, so he’s definitely trainable. His foster mom and dad have found him totally manageable! - A home without other dogs OR with other dogs his size. We could see his mouth writing checks his butt can’t cash with larger dogs. If there are other dogs in the home, intros should be slow, and ideally, he could be kept somewhere separate while the humans are away just in case. If you love cute, curly little dogs and are ready for the most rewarding challenge ever, Fozzie Bear is your man! ———————————————————- The adoption donation for Fozzie Bear is $250. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines and on flea/tick/heartworm prevention (age appropriate). If you would like to meet this dog, you must have an approved application on file and be willing to travel to the Mahoning County/Columbiana County, Ohio area for a meet and greet. All of our dogs reside in foster homes. We do not have a physical shelter. Applications will be reviewed/approved and each dog will be placed in the home that can best meet their individual need. If you live in a residence with a Homeowner’s Association (HOA) please make sure you check that the dog you are interested in does not violate size or breed restrictions. A successful adoption is our goal. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption of any dog. We require you call your established veterinarian asap to schedule a wellness visit. —————————- Our applications can be found by clicking on the “adoption application” link at https://apaprescue.com Our primary form of communication is email. Story
Looking for a sweet little companion to share quiet days and cozy evenings? Katie is a precious 10-year-old, 7-pound pup with a heart full of love. Katie is the perfect mix of gentle and affectionate. She enjoys exploring a fenced yard at her own pace, happily trotting around before settling in for a cuddle. While she has a mild patella issue, it doesn’t slow her down or seem to cause her any discomfort. She easily manages a flight of stairs and even knows how to use puppy steps to climb onto the couch or chair so she can be close to her people. This little lady is wonderfully well-mannered. She’s house-trained, not a barker, and will simply give a soft whine when she needs to go outside or when it’s time for dinner. She’s an excellent eater and gets along well with other small dogs who respect her space and don’t overwhelm her. Katie is ready to spend her golden years with a family who will cherish her gentle spirit. If you’re looking for a calm, loving best friend who asks for little more than kindness, a comfy spot to nap, and someone to love, Katie may be the perfect match for you. Adoption is $200 which includes her dental, spay, age-appropriate vaccines, microchip and current monthly prevention. To fill out an application for this animal or a general application click HERE.  Adoption Fee: $ The adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and current monthly flea and parasite prevention. Story
This boy is one ball of positive energy and joy! Hemingway is always in a good mood. He is happy and bouncy, full of affection :) Hemi gets sooooo excited when he sees you. He dances and can’t wait to come right into your space to greet you. Hemi loves his walks but be forewarned, the first 5 minutes, he is almost running because he is so excited and happy to be out and about. Off leash, this boy has a special talent. He can make impressive leaps while running. When he is not trying to impress you with his leaps, he loves exploring his surroundings. His nose is dead in the ground. Focused. Lots of sniffing:) He comes when you call for him or give him a sign to approach. Watch out. He darts right into your space. The kisses follow. He’ll sit by you to relax until something catches his attention and then off, he goes to check out the commotion. One cute thing Hemi does is if you throw a ball for him to fetch. He runs after the ball, but when it drops on the ground, he simply stares at it and runs back to you! :) Hemingway is a 1-year-old, 15lb Poodle mix. He is looking for a home that offers lots of play and outside time, with an equal amount of time for snuggles. Teenaged kids or a young, playful dog to bounce energy off would be a plus.
