Story
Pending adoption We have a transport leaving the weekend of August 28th 2026 from where we are located in Southern California to NorCal, OR, and surrounding states as needed for our adopting families where we bring our dogs all the way to their homes 💗 For peace of mind we never ask for anything up front. The adoption fee along with your share of travel costs will be due the day we arrive in person ultimately finalizing the adoption then and there with you. We would love to add Sophie to our trip for the right family 😊 Some dogs come into rescue because they need a new home. Others come because they need someone willing to fight for them. Sophie was one of those dogs. At 4 years old and weighing just 9.8 pounds, this beautiful Havanese/Poodle mix had every reason to look at the world with uncertainty. Instead, she chooses joy. She wakes up each morning grateful for another day, another cuddle, another chance to simply be loved, and it’s impossible not to feel that gratitude the moment you’re around her. When Sophie first arrived in our care, we immediately knew something wasn’t right. She had blood in her urine, and after an extensive veterinary workup, including X-rays, we discovered she was living with five large bladder stones that required immediate surgery. It broke our hearts knowing she had likely been living in pain for quite some time. Thankfully, our incredible veterinary team was able to remove every one of her bladder stones. During the same procedure, Sophie was also spayed, received a complete dental cleaning, was microchipped, and brought current on all of her vaccinations. Because of the severity of her condition, we also performed bloodwork to ensure her kidneys had not been affected. To our relief, every value came back completely normal. Two weeks later, her follow-up urinalysis came back perfect as well. While there is always a possibility that bladder stones can return, Sophie has been set up for success. She is now on a prescription diet and, with routine veterinary checkups and periodic urinalyses, any future concerns can be caught early, allowing her to continue living the healthy, happy, pain-free life she deserves. Her previous owner simply could not afford the medical care she so desperately needed and ultimately walked away. We never measure a person’s love by their circumstances, but we are incredibly grateful we were able to step in when we did. Watching Sophie transform from a dog living in discomfort into one who greets each day with happiness has been one of the most rewarding journeys we’ve had the privilege of witnessing. There is something incredibly special about the way Sophie loves. She has a habit of gently placing her paw on your arm whenever she wants a little extra affection, and if you stop petting her too soon, she’ll softly paw at you again as if to say, “Just one more minute.” She looks up at the people she loves with complete admiration, patiently waiting to be invited closer, never demanding attention but always appreciating every bit of it. She is gentle, kind, and has a warmth about her that makes everyone she meets fall in love with her. Sophie is house trained and will politely tap at the door when she’d like to go outside. Once she’s finished, she’s happy to come right back in, although if you’re spending time in the yard gardening, enjoying your morning coffee, or simply relaxing outdoors, she’ll happily stretch out nearby and enjoy those quiet moments right beside you. She has incredible recall and quickly learned the name we gave her after arriving in our care. Today, every time you call for Sophie, she comes running with the sweetest smile, simply happy that someone is calling for her. She is crate trained and currently sleeps in her crate each night, though she doesn’t require one. Whether you prefer she sleeps on her own bed or curled up beside you, she’ll be perfectly content with either. She has wonderful manners in the home, walks beautifully on a leash, rides exceptionally well in the car, and is always a favorite during her grooming appointments. She is not a barker and carries herself with a quiet confidence that makes living with her incredibly peaceful. Sophie loves everyone she meets, including men, women, and children. She is wonderful with other gentle, respectful dogs and does beautifully with cats as well. Because she isn’t a high-energy dog herself, she especially enjoys the company of animals who appreciate a calmer pace of life. At the same time, she would be just as happy becoming the center of someone’s world as an only pet. Sometimes rescue isn’t just about saving a life. Sometimes it’s about giving a life back. Sophie has already fought through the hardest part of her journey. Now she’s simply waiting for someone who will cherish every healthy, happy day still ahead of her. She will undoubtedly become your best friend, and while she will always benefit from routine veterinary monitoring and her prescription diet, that’s a very small commitment in exchange for the unconditional love she gives so freely. We promised Sophie that the next family she called her own would love her as deeply as she deserves, and we intend to keep that promise. Sophie’s adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/sophie-2 While that is higher than many of our adoption fees, it doesn’t come close to covering the extensive veterinary care she received. Her fee helps offset a portion of the emergency diagnostics, bladder stone surgery, spay, dental cleaning, bloodwork, vaccinations, microchip, follow-up care, and the months of love, training, and rehabilitation she has received while with us. More importantly, every adoption makes it possible for us to say “yes” to the next dog facing an urgent medical need, just as we did for Sophie. By choosing her, you’re not only giving one incredible little girl the life she deserves—you’ll also be helping save another.

The adoption fee along with your share of travel costs will be due the day we arrive in person ultimately finalizing the adoption then and there with you. We would love to add Valentino to our trip for the right family 😊 Meet Valentino 🩵🐾 If you have been searching for that once-in-a-lifetime little companion who wakes up every morning convinced that life is wonderful, people are amazing, and there is always a reason to wag your tail… we would love for you to meet Valentino. 🩵 Valentino is 2½ years old, weighs 11 pounds, and is full grown at a beautiful, healthy weight. We were told by his previous family that one of his parents was a Poodle and the other was a Cockapoo. He definitely inherited that beautiful Poodle-type coat and is hypoallergenic and non-shedding. But as adorable as Valentino is, it is his personality that will absolutely steal your heart. This little guy is quite literally joy on four paws. His tail is always wagging, his heart is always open, and he seems completely convinced that his life’s mission is to spread happiness to every person lucky enough to meet him. If you are willing to pet him, love him, talk to him, or simply include him in whatever you are doing, Valentino is ready to become your new best friend. He is incredibly affectionate and a complete cuddle bug. If there is an available lap, he will happily fill it. If your lap is otherwise occupied, he is perfectly content being close by. Valentino genuinely enjoys companionship and wants to be part of your everyday life, not because he is demanding, but because being with his person is simply where he is happiest. He also LOVES his toys. 🧸 You will often find him happily carrying around a ball or one of his favorite toys as he goes about his day. Apparently, according to Valentino, life is simply better when you have something fun to carry around with you. 😂 Valentino is wonderful with other dogs and cats alike. He is social, friendly, and has done beautifully sharing his space with the other animals here. Whether his future home has other four-legged family members or he gets to soak up all of the attention as your one and only, what matters most to him is having people who truly want him to be part of their lives. And when we say part of your life, we mean it! Valentino LOVES a good road trip. Whether you are driving across town or heading out on a much longer adventure, he is happy to come along for the ride. He doesn’t need every outing to be exciting, he just loves being included. Errands, vacations, weekend drives, trips to the park… if his favorite person is going, Valentino would very much like his invitation too. 🩵 He even loves going to the groomer and is always ready to come home looking his absolute best. He has that wonderful Poodle coat that will require regular grooming throughout his life, and thankfully Valentino is already happy and comfortable with that part of his routine. Inside the home, Valentino has wonderful manners. He is house trained and goes outside when asked throughout the day. He does appreciate having a routine and being given regular opportunities to go outside, so we will recommend that his new family continue a consistent potty schedule with him. He is smart, attentive, and does beautifully when he knows what to expect. He is also crate trained and currently sleeps comfortably in his crate at night. If you would like to continue that routine, he is already accustomed to it. If you would rather give him his own cozy bed beside yours, or eventually invite him into your bed, we have a feeling Valentino would be equally thrilled with that arrangement. 😂🩵 He is not a nuisance barker. He does, however, communicate when he wants or needs something, and we actually love that about him. Valentino is intelligent and very attentive to his people. When he seeks you out, there is usually a reason, and once you get to know him, we imagine you will quickly learn his little ways of communicating with you. Valentino came to us through circumstances that had absolutely nothing to do with him. His previous owner loved him immensely. He needed to move out of state to care for his aging mother, and unfortunately Valentino could not go with him. If circumstances had been different, he would have never chosen to part with his best little buddy. Sometimes loving a dog means recognizing when life has changed in a way you never anticipated. His owner knew his mother needed him by her side during this season of her life, and as heartbreaking as it was to come to terms with, he also knew Valentino deserved a family with the time and ability to give him the beautiful life he had always wanted for him. So now we have the privilege of finding that family. 🩵 A family who will give him walks in the park, playtime in the yard, car rides just because, endless belly rubs and plenty of toys scattered around the house. Someone who will let him curl up beside them while they binge-watch their favorite show, because yes… Valentino is absolutely happy to settle in for a good movie or TV marathon with his best friend. And if there happen to be some dog-friendly snacks involved in that late-night binge, we are pretty sure he will consider that an exceptionally successful evening. 😂 Valentino's adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of his adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/valentino He was neutered on August 11, 2026. At that time he was also be microchipped, brought current on his vaccines, and thoroughly examined by our veterinarian which included a dental exam. His teeth were in great health, so a dental cleaning wasn't needed. He has been officially cleared by our vet to find a home of his own 🩵 Valentino will go home ready to begin the rest of his life with the family lucky enough to call him theirs. And truly, we cannot say enough wonderful things about this boy. He is sweet. He is happy. He is affectionate. He is smart. He is social. He is funny. He is well-mannered. And somehow, that little tail always seems to be wagging. 🩵 Valentino isn’t looking for anything complicated. He is simply looking for his person. Someone whose lap he can climb into. Someone whose car he can ride shotgun in. Someone whose favorite shows he can pretend to watch. Someone who won’t mind finding toys carried from one room to another. Someone who will look down and realize that their little 11-pound shadow has been following them around simply because there is nowhere else in the world he would rather be. If what you are looking for is a genuine best friend to share your everyday life with, we promise you will be very happy you chose to make Valentino that friend. 🩵🩵🩵

Story
Hi, I’m Kelso! Yes, Kelso, like the lovable troublemaker from That ’70s Show. I’d like to clarify that I am significantly more sophisticated than my namesake. I may occasionally make questionable decisions, but at least I have excellent hair. Well... technically, I have a lot of hair. I’m a 3 year old, 57 lb. Old English Sheepdog, and underneath all this magnificent fluff is a very sweet boy who just needs a little time to figure people out. When we first meet, I can be cautious and a little unsure. I’m not going to immediately assume that every new person is my best friend. I like to take my time, observe, and make sure everything is safe. Once I realize you’re trustworthy, though, you’ll see a completely different side of me. I become a sweet, affectionate guy who genuinely enjoys being around my people. I’m also very smart and very active, which is a fancy way of saying my brain has a full-time job and would appreciate some assignments. I need an experienced adopter who understands dog behavior and is excited to continue my training. I’m the kind of dog who thrives when I have structure, consistency, enrichment, and things to learn. When it comes to other dogs, I’m a little selective about my social circle. I prefer calm, respectful doggy friends and would rather politely coexist than participate in a 24/7 canine wrestling tournament. Basically, I have standards. I’m looking for quality friendships, not quantity. Cats? We don’t know my history with them, so for now, I’m looking for a cat-free home. I’d do best in an adult-only home where my people understand that trust takes time and are willing to let me build confidence at my own pace. I may need an experienced person, but I promise I’m worth the effort. Once I know I’m safe, I have a whole lot of sweetness to give. I’m ready to make your life a little more fluffy, a little more adventurous, and hopefully a lot more fun! My adoption fee is $295 and I'm neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Apply to meet me today!
