Winston has megaesophagus (an enlarged esophagus) which causes him to vomit or regurgitate food or water if he does not eat or drink upright in a specially made Bailey Chair. There are no surgical options available. Winston recently got aspiration pneumonia after a dental and neuter. He needs his water mixed with a thickener so he can swallow without throwing up. He gets Viagra (Sildenafil) an hour before he eats to help the food get past his esophagus & sphincter to his stomach. He also needs his teeth brushed daily since he's susceptible to aspiration pneumonia. We rescued him from a shelter right before he was going to be euthanized. At just 7 years old, Winston deserves the best care possible, and we’re doing everything we can to support him. Silias weights 22 pounds and is living with Cushings (well-managed). Silias adoes need to be let out frequently since he drinks more water than usual due to Cushings. Rocky is a 6½‑year‑old Schnauzer mix who lost everything when his owner passed away. With no plan in place, he ended up in a shelter — cold, confused, and waiting for someone who never came. They had no room inside, so this gentle boy was kept in an outdoor pen until PPR stepped in.Rocky is incredibly sweet, mellow, and loving. He spends most of his day snoozing happily and enjoys being near his person. He charms everyone he meets — even the neighbors in his foster home adore him and make sure he gets plenty of pets, which absolutely makes his day.Rocky has a compression in his back that currently doesn’t require treatment, but it does mean he feels his best with short, frequent walks rather than long ones. And true to his Schnauzer roots, he is very passionate about squirrels — if he spots one on a walk, he’ll announce it with enthusiasm.He is housebroken and does wonderfully with a predictable routine, though he may have a little tinkle if he gets very excited or startled. Rocky also does well with other dogs — he’ll even give a playful bark to encourage them to engage with him.Rocky is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and dewormed. He also recently had a dental cleaning where nine teeth were removed, and he’s feeling so much better now. Meet Alfie! 🐾 Alfie is an approximately 10 year old, 21 lb schnauzer mix with one of the gentlest souls imaginable. He is looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home in the Chicago area while he continues his medical journey.When Alfie first came into rescue as a stray from Chicago, we had honestly never seen anything quite like him. His body was covered in unusual bubble-like cysts hidden beneath severely matted fur, and it was clear he had been living uncomfortable and neglected for a very long time.Despite everything he has been through, Alfie has remained incredibly sweet, quiet, and grateful for kindness. He is an easy dog to have around and seems happiest simply relaxing near his people, sitting outside in the fresh air, or quietly following you around the house.The good news is that Alfie’s cyst biopsy results came back BENIGN, which was a huge relief. He has also recently been neutered and had several masses removed as part of his ongoing medical care.Alfie does have:• An enlarged heart• A grade 4/6 heart murmur• He is currently on VetmedinEven with his medical needs, Alfie is a calm, loving companion who deserves a soft place to land after all he has endured. The rescue provides food, supplies, and medical care while he's being fostered.
