Story
Izzy is a beautiful 4 year old Miniature Schnauzer who recently came to BENCHS after her aging owner was injured and could no longer provide the care she needed. This was no fault of Izzy’s, and she has clearly spent her life knowing what it means to be part of a family. Izzy was originally purchased as a puppy from a large scale breeding operation. When she first arrived, we actually wondered if she might be a Schnauzer mix because of her larger size and beautiful blue eyes. However, Izzy came with her original breeder paperwork, which identifies her as a Miniature Schnauzer and includes information about both her sire and dam. Whatever genetics are behind those pretty blue eyes, they certainly make her stand out! Miniature Schnauzers are known for being intelligent, alert, devoted little dogs with plenty of personality packed into a smaller body. They tend to form strong attachments to their people and often want to be involved in whatever their family is doing. They can be curious, spirited, playful, and quite expressive. Schnauzers were originally developed as working farm dogs and ratters, so many retain a natural instinct to investigate movement, chase small critters, and let their people know when something interesting is happening. They can also have an independent streak, making positive reinforcement, consistency, mental enrichment, and regular activity important. Of course, every dog is an individual, and Izzy will continue showing us which of those classic Schnauzer characteristics fit her best. Izzy is very new to BENCHS, so we are still getting to know her and learning more about her personality every day. What we have already discovered is that when you first meet her, she can be quite shy and unsure. New people, new environments, and all of the changes that come along with shelter life can be a little overwhelming for her. Give her some time to decide that you are safe, though, and you will quickly discover an entirely different dog. Once Izzy likes you, she REALLY likes you. She becomes incredibly sweet, affectionate, and clingy and would happily stay right by her person’s side. Because of how shy and uncertain Izzy can be in new situations, we feel she would be happiest in a quieter, more mature household. A home with adults or older children who can respect her space, move at her pace, and allow her to build trust on her own terms would be the best fit. Izzy is looking for a home where life is a little more predictable and she can settle into a comfortable routine with her people. Izzy is fully house trained and can be trusted home during the day without accidents. She is used to sleeping on a dog bed at night, walks on a leash, and absolutely loves going for car rides. She previously lived with a cat and did well with them. Izzy has never lived with other dogs, so we are slowly and thoughtfully exploring what her feelings are about canine friends. Since she is still so new to BENCHS, we don't want to make assumptions about what she would prefer. As we get to know her and introduce her to other dogs at a pace she is comfortable with, we will have a better idea of whether she would enjoy sharing her future home with another dog or would rather soak up all the attention herself. Izzy is currently very overweight. Her veterinary records indicate that table food was frequently offered in her previous home, and weight loss had previously been recommended by her veterinarian. Her new family will need to help her work toward a healthier weight with appropriately portioned meals, limited treats and table scraps, and regular activity. Some leisurely walks with her favorite person could become one of the best parts of her day. As a Miniature Schnauzer, Izzy will also need a family who is prepared to keep up with her regular grooming needs throughout her lifetime. Routine brushing and professional grooming will be an important part of keeping her coat comfortable and healthy. More than anything, Izzy seems like a little dog who wants a person again. She may not throw herself into your arms the moment you meet her, but give her the chance to trust you and you may suddenly find yourself with a little Schnauzer shadow who never wants to leave your side. After losing the home and person she knew, Izzy is ready for her next chapter. She is looking for a quieter, mature family who will give her the time she needs to settle in and then happily accept all the love she has waiting to give.

Good with kids, Good with dogs,
Story
Hi, I’m Howie, a friendly, active 2 y/o schnauzer mix. The foster lady thinks I’m a schnoodle ( schnauzer/poodle mix), a fancy designer dog. No one knows for sure though since I haven’t had one of those fancy DNA tests done and we have no idea who my parents are. You see, I was an orphan as I was taken to the Laredo shelter and transported all the way to San Antonio. I guess the foster peeps could see that I am big city material! I am small ( 16 pounds give or take) and don’t shed. I love to ride in the car and hike with my peeps. I am very smart and eager to please. I get along well with both large and small dogs and love everyone! I am pretty good on a leash but am still learning manners. I am kennel and doggy door trained and listen well to my foster parents. I am currently wearing belly bands inside as I am still learning not to mark in the house. I just lost the family jewels today ( the old snip snip :) so foster mom is expecting the marking to subside. If not, I tolerate the bands and the nice furniture remains clean. You see, I am a perfect gentleman. I prefer being indoors but also like playing in the back yard with my crew. I really just want to be where the action is. I will make a great apartment or house dog. I would do best with a family or active person who likes to go for walks or spend time playing with me as I still have some puppy energy. So, if you are looking for a handsome hunk, I’m your guy. I’ve been looking for my furever family and I will reward the lucky peeps with lots of kisses and hugs! Local adoption fee is $400 in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $750 ( includes transport to your area) "Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that dog, the world will change." ~ Karen Davison

Good with dogs,
Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Sweet Tie Dye is looking for someone with a patient heart who understands that trust can’t be rushed. This gentle Miniature Schnauzer has already made meaningful progress in foster care, even if her journey has been quieter than most. When she first arrived, she was too frightened to even venture outside. Today, she is primarily potty trained outdoors and has begun taking small but important steps toward feeling safe. Tie Dye is still extremely timid around people and spends much of her time observing from a distance. She quietly accepts gentle pets when her foster sits with her, and while she isn’t seeking out affection just yet, she is slowly learning that humans can be kind. During thunderstorms and other scary moments, she’ll seek comfort from her foster family, and she’ll occasionally stop by to check in throughout the day—little signs that her confidence is growing. Loud noises and new experiences can be overwhelming for Tie Dye, so she is looking for a calm, predictable home where she’ll never be pushed faster than she’s ready to go. Her ideal adopter will celebrate the smallest victories, understand that progress may come in inches instead of miles, and find joy in watching a fearful dog slowly discover what it means to feel safe. Tie Dye may never be the dog who greets every visitor at the door, but for the person willing to invest the time, patience, and understanding she deserves, the bond you build will be incredibly special. If you believe every dog deserves the chance to bloom at their own pace, Tie Dye is waiting to meet you. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
Welcome Ruby to CCPAL foster program. Ruby is a 4-year old Schnauzer/Yorkie dog. She weighs about 15 pounds. She was found on the streets of Texas roaming with another dog. She wasn’t thin or stressed so she may have been found right after she was dumped by the original owners. Ruby is potty trained, good with other dogs and friendly to people, even strangers. She has a longer coat and is not a big shedder. She would look more like a Schnauzer with the Schnauzer cut. She is loving, smart, cuddly and ready for her new forever home. She is getting her vaccinations topped up and will be spayed before adoption. She is good in a car and decent on a leash. She would be fine in a home with a smaller condo sized yard. She would only need a moderately active person. A walk would be enough exercise. She is relaxed, calm and beautiful. She would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. She is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is 400 and transport is $200. . Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Online applications at www.ccpalrescue.org See her cute video
