Story
Our wonderful One-Eared Willie is truly a one-of-a-kind pup. Willie was brought to us after another dog ripped off his ear. That did not stop this clever canine from being full of life and seeking love. This silly goofball has become some of the volunteers’ favorite and knows how to grab everyone’s attention. He is addicted to belly rubs and will happily present his belly all day long to you, your kids, and any other bystanders who happen along. It’s truly delightful to see him throw himself upside-down at your feet, waiting patiently for pettin’s & lovin’s. Whether he’s been good or a little naughty he knows how to draw you in with a quick roll to his back and feet in the air. This boy’s favorite snack: a cheeseburger! He can devour one in the blink of an eye, no chewing required. Quite impressive. Food motivated is an understatement.  Willie is currently our longest-term resident. He has seen many of his kennel mates leave one by one while he sits and wonders when his turn will be next. If you’re looking for a constant companion who plays with enthusiasm then this is your guy. Trust us, Willie is worth it!  Adoption Fee: $200 The adoption fee includes your pet's: - Spay/Neuter - Annual Vaccines - Rabies - Microchipping If you are interested in learning more about or adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application here: http://www.gatewayareahumane.com/adopt-form.html NOTE: A completed application is required for all adoptions and prior to any visitations. Completing this application does not guarantee approval, nor does it obligate you to adopt if approved. All visits and adoptions are by appointment only. We do our best to ensure that the adoptable animals are in the best health possible, but you will need to take your pet to your regular vet to ensure complete health. Keep in mind that any pet is a lifelong commitment. When considering adoption, remember what life is like with work, school, hobbies, or kid's activities.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. I'm a good boy. No one who has visited the shelter in the past year has noticed me, but I'm a good boy! I was so scared when I came in after I was abandoned on a rural highway in our town. I was too afraid to come to the animal control officer when called, so they had to live trap me.. Then they sent me to the prison program where I learned to love my handler and I got along with the other 4 dogs in the program. Now when I see people I know happy to see you!  When I am with people I don't know, I am anxious and sometimes I don't show my sunny side (so no small children as I need my personal space at times), but when I see someone I know I am happy and joyful. The shelter staff says they can't bear that I've been with them a whole year. I walk well on lead and crate well. I will need a fence or some confinement when I am outside so I don't run off, but I am most comfortable on your couch anyway. I am not a barker. I jump up into the crate to travel and dance when you come to take me for a walk. I just need that one person who is willing to become my forever friend. Please take a chance on me. Story
Penny gets along well with all dogs and would do best in a home with at least one very confident dog to lead her into routine. She enjoys playtime with chasing and gentle wrestling. She loves chew toys (she’s a strong chewer - so needs the heavy duty kind) but gets scared when toys are thrown, so she prefers toys she can enjoy on the ground. Speaking of being scared... she is timid and will be shy when she goes to a new home. Because she may bolt when frightened, she will need a fenced yard or someone committed to keeping her on leash when taken outside. She absolutely loves her crate and feels safest having a space of her own. She willingly spends most of her time there, and is very quiet. She never whines or barks when crated or otherwise, unless she sees someone carrying a large object toward her! House training is a work in progress. She has never had an accident on hard flooring but is still learning the difference between carpet and grass, which we are working on and improving with each day. She is a quiet, gentle, easygoing dog who just needs a patient home to help her continue gaining confidence & show her lots of love.
