Story
Our wonderful One-Eared Willie is truly a one-of-a-kind pup. Willie was brought to us after another dog ripped off his ear. That did not stop this clever canine from being full of life and seeking love. This silly goofball has become some of the volunteers’ favorite and knows how to grab everyone’s attention. He is addicted to belly rubs and will happily present his belly all day long to you, your kids, and any other bystanders who happen along. It’s truly delightful to see him throw himself upside-down at your feet, waiting patiently for pettin’s & lovin’s. Whether he’s been good or a little naughty he knows how to draw you in with a quick roll to his back and feet in the air. This boy’s favorite snack: a cheeseburger! He can devour one in the blink of an eye, no chewing required. Quite impressive. Food motivated is an understatement.  Willie is currently our longest-term resident. He has seen many of his kennel mates leave one by one while he sits and wonders when his turn will be next. If you’re looking for a constant companion who plays with enthusiasm then this is your guy. Trust us, Willie is worth it!  Adoption Fee: $200 If you are interested in learning more about or adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application here: www.gatewayareahumanesociety.com/application-to-adopt The adoption fee includes your pet's: - Spay/Neuter - Annual Vaccines - Rabies - Microchipping NOTE: A completed application is required for all adoptions and prior to any visitations. Completing this application does not guarantee approval, nor does it obligate you to adopt if approved. All visits and adoptions are by appointment only. We do our best to ensure that the adoptable animals are in the best health possible, but you will need to take your pet to your regular vet to ensure complete health. Keep in mind that any pet is a lifelong commitment. When considering adoption, remember what life is like with work, school, hobbies, or kid's activities.

Story
Meet Jessie 🐾💛Jessie is a 1-year-old Mountain Cur mix who weighs 35 pounds and is full of love and playful energy. She was owner released, and while her previous owners shared limited information, they mentioned that she did not do well with other dogs. However, Jessie is currently doing fine with her kennel mate, showing she may do well with the right introductions and supervision. This sweet girl is very loving and has a playful personality—she wants to play all the time! Jessie would thrive in a home with a big backyard where she can run, explore, and burn off her energy. At this time, we don’t know how Jessie does with cats or kids, and she is not good with goats, so a farm setting would not be ideal for her. We also don’t yet know if she is house or crate trained, but with consistency and patience, she has great potential to learn.Jessie is heartworm negative, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and ready to find a home that will give her the love, activity, and attention she deserves. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion, Jessie might be the perfect fit for you! 🐶✨Jessie's Adoption Fee is $108 plus taxDogs are $115 and puppies are $110 unless otherwise noted. All cats and kittens are $75.00 unless otherwise noted. Our system automatically updates adoptable websites every two hours. Feel free to email or call us with any questions you may have. Our contact number is 270-887-4175. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30-4 and is closed daily for lunch from 12:30-1. Adoptions are done on a first come first serve basis for owner releases. Strays have a wait list.

Story
Rhonda is the perfect mix of what we aren’t sure. Maybe Feist and some Lab with a little hound mixed in. She is a gentle sweet 10 year old with the slightest bit of gray. Her eyes tell a story that we want to end with happily ever after for her.  Walks really well on a leash and gets along with dogs. Has not been cat tested.  She loves people and would love to snuggle on the couch with you. She is typically at Pet Supplies Plus in Delhi on Saturdays. We adopt to residents of OH, IN, KY and WV. Apply on the website or reply to your approval email requesting a meet and great with this awesome girl. February 13, 2026, 9:38 pm

Story
Goofy is just what his name says, GOOFY! Goofy was pulled from LMAS because he needed longer to get a home because of his special needs. This what his foster parents had to say about him: "Goofy is the sweetest! He's basically a brindle colored tank! He loves being anywhere you are. He loves giving kisses and hugs. He tends to put his whole body weight on you when he loves on you because he just doesn't know what personal space is. His tail hasn't stopped wagging since he's been with us. He's really just a happy dog! He's so happy, he probably wouldn't make the best guard dog because he just wags his tail at every delivery person or neighbor he sees out of the window. At first he was timid, scared and confused but now everyone is his friend! He loves going on walks and does well on a leash. He always needs something to do so toys in abundance are his best friends! He will even bring those to you to show them off! When he gets super excited, he chatters his teeth and drools a little. Unfortunately we haven't been able to successfully integrate him in with our resident dogs but hes doing well with the cats. So he would be best in an only dog home. He does seem to like to watch the bearded dragon, too! He would also be best with older children. Someone needs a little goofy in their lives, why not adopt this goofy guy??" Goofy is a neutered, 2 year old, Treeing Tennessee Brindle/Pit mix. He is UTD on vaccines and microchipped. He is potty trained and speciality crate trained. Goofy will come with life long medicine that helps him chill out and his crate!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. I'm a good boy. No one who has visited the shelter in the past year has noticed me, but I'm a good boy! I was so scared when I came in after I was abandoned on a rural highway in our town. I was too afraid to come to the animal control officer when called, so they had to live trap me.. Then they sent me to the prison program where I learned to love my handler and I got along with the other 4 dogs in the program. Now when I see people I know happy to see you!  When I am with people I don't know, I am anxious and sometimes I don't show my sunny side (so no small children as I need my personal space at times), but when I see someone I know I am happy and joyful. The shelter staff says they can't bear that I've been with them a whole year. I walk well on lead and crate well. I will need a fence or some confinement when I am outside so I don't run off, but I am most comfortable on your couch anyway. I am not a barker. I jump up into the crate to travel and dance when you come to take me for a walk. I just need that one person who is willing to become my forever friend. Please take a chance on me.
