Story
Name: Mario Gender: Male Age: 3 years Current Weight: 55 lbs Breed: Mountain Cur / Pit Bull Terrier Mix Energy Level: Low-medium Dog Friendly: Prefers to be an only child- but this isn’t always a con. Deep down, doesn’t everyone who has a sibling, wish this at some point? Cat Friendly:  Yes with a confident cat Kid Friendly: Yes, 8+ Physical Fence Requirement: Physical fence preferred but not required with regular walks/exercise.  If Mario will be in a backyard without a leash/teather, it should have a privacy fence.  Apartment Friendly: Yes Crate & Potty Trained: Yes Ideal Home/Adopter: Single or couple who want an only dog, have a fenced yard (or willing to walk/play) and understand Mario not being super social with other dogs. In return, they never have to come home to any accidents or destruction and he’s the best cuddler. Likes: Walks, playing fetch, meal times, rides in car, naps, squeaky toys, cuddling on the couch, playing tug, snacks Dislikes: Some cats (has been in foster home with cats- made friends with one cat, but chases the other) 2) and other dogs- Mario might bark and be “extra” around other dogs Additional Considerations: He rides in the car great- lays down and naps. He doesn’t need crated- never chews or destroys anything. No accidents ever. Doesn’t need constant attention. Very flexible on schedule. Can go in his room at his foster home for a few hours or overnight with no problem. Super sweet, loving and so handsome. Loves to cuddle on couch and watch tv with you. Best dog for a homebody! What makes this dog special: Mario has split his time between 2 fosters due to his first foster working out of town frequently. They are very different households and he flows between the two very well. One is a single, 20 something that lives in a high rise apartment in the city. The other is an older couple that lives in a house in the suburbs. He enjoys his city walks and his suburban yard. He can get up early or sleep in. He can be left home alone with no problem and doesn’t need crated. He will need a yard with a fence or walks on a leash. He’s very handsome and a great traveler in the car. He’s a heart stealer and once you meet him you will fall in love. He’d do best with an owner who understands Mario is not a dog park going, hang around other dogs kind of guy but will love his owner/family Mario 's adoption fee is $350. All fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, worming, flea and heartworm current. All dogs over 6 months of age have been tested and are heartworm negative. If you are interested in Mario, apply at rescuedohio.org to become an approved adopter and a meet & greet can be set up once approved. ##1196153##

Story
Name: Winifred (Winnie) Gender: Female Age: 5-6 years Current Weight: 36 lbs Expected Adult Size: Medium Breed: Plott hound or cur mix Energy Level: Low to Medium Dog Friendly: Yes, can have other dogs in the home or can be an only dog. The chiller the otherdog the better. Winnie brings the energy Cat Friendly: No Kid Friendly: yes Apartment Friendly: yes but would love a home with a yard too! Physical Fence Requirement: Physical fence not required with walks Crate Trained: Yes, sleeps in her crate nightly. Loves it Potty Trained: Yes Ideal Home/Adopter: Winnies a former country girl turned city girl. She used to use a doggy door in a home with other dogs. Her current foster lives in an apartment and loves walks around the complex, and Winnie is the best walker on the leash. She can do both! Winnie is a little older at 5-6 yrs old, but still has energy and does the cutest little tap dance when she sees her foster parents walk into the room after a night of peacefully sleeping in her crate. She would be great with another dog to teach her new things (who won't get mad when she steals their toys). Likes: LOVES stuffed toys, especially the squeaky ones. She will take all the toys out of the bin, throw them in the air, and catch them. She entertains herself if her foster brother doesn’t want to play tug of war at the time. Enjoys chewing bones and watching tv on the couch. Enjoys car rides with her foster parents and seeing all the new places they take her. Dislikes: Loud noises startle her a little bit (washer and dryer, cars honking) but she's getting so much better. Not a fan of elevators (yet), but starting to realize they're not that scary. Strangely, she hates peanut butter and doesn’t like many cheeses. Dislikes the rain and cold, but she loves wearing all the sweaters her foster mom puts on her! Additional Considerations: She was found as a stray but definitely had a family before, so she knows the ropes. She is so loving and just wants to have a family to cuddle with on the cold days, maybe with another furry friend too! ##1940824##

Mountain Cur

Story
Vaughn is a cute one-year old male Mountain Cur mix who was brought to the HSOV on November 29, 2022 by a Good Samaritan who found him in the 400 Block of Fifth Street in Marietta Ohio. Vaughn was wearing a nice collar (with a matching leash attached) but, unfortunately, there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar to enable us to locate his family ... And he was not microchipped. Vaughn has a dark brown/brindle short smooth coat, a long tail, and an adorable face with black shading, expressive brown eyes, and short semi-erect ears. This young man has a happy, exuberant personality and is quite active. Vaughn loves to 'play nip' in an attempt to encourage anyone nearby to engage in some fun-and-games. HSOV Kennel Tech Olivia Moretto accompanied Vaughn outdoors late in the afternoon he arrived and indulged him in some playtime (much to his delight). Vaughn weighs 52 lbs and is energetic on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Vaughn will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since he was not reclaimed, Vaughn was neutered on February 14, 2023 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Sonny (aka Lonesome) is a gorgeous 4-year old male Mountain Cur/Shepherd mix who was surrendered by his owner on October 31, 2023. Lonesome has a dark brown/brindle coat, a short half tail, and a beautiful face with expressive brown eyes, a slender muzzle, and short semi-erect ears. This handsome boy appeared to have a sweet, affectionate personality when HSOV Kennel Tech Aubrey Hall helped him with his Petfinder/Facebook photos shortly after his arrival. Lonesome was understandably a bit bewildered about his new surroundings and being among folks that he didn't know, but he made the most of a sad situation and enjoyed extra TLC from Aubrey. The information we've learned about Lonesome after his pictures/story were initially posted is that he really does respond to the name 'Lonesome'. He knows commands when they are are spoken in German. Lonesome can be situationally aggressive when meeting new people. He has some separation anxiety issues and cannot be left alone, so he would need some training in those areas. Lonesome is good with other dogs, but he is NOT good with cats. Sonny/Lonesome is a big boy who weighs 73 lbs. He has already been neutered. Lonesome will be looking for an appropriate home with an experienced adopter.

Story
Vaughn has the dubious honor of being the longest-resident dog at HSOV (having arrived here on November 29, 2022), so he has literally spent half of his life with us (and has been loved each and every single day). These updated pictures were taken on March 12, 2024 when Vaughn participated in our St. Patrick’s mini-photo sessions. Vaughn looked like a fun-loving Irishman in his bright green tie, which he wore rather casually, and he personified the windblown ‘rock star’ image. Vaughn isn't dreaming of the "Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow" for St. Patrick's day .. His only dream is of a loving home with a special someone where he will be loved, cherished, and spoiled to his heart's content. Vaughn is a majestic male Mountain Cur mix who was brought to the HSOV on November 29, 2022 by a Good Samaritan who found him in the 400 Block of Fifth Street in Marietta Ohio. Vaughn was wearing a nice collar (with a matching leash attached) but, unfortunately, there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar to enable us to locate his family ... And he was not microchipped. Vaughn was estimated to have been one-year old at that time. Vaughn has a dark brown/brindle short smooth coat, a long tail, and an adorable face with black shading, expressive brown eyes, and short semi-erect ears ... And the nicest smile. This young man has a happy, exuberant personality and is quite active. Vaughn loves to 'play nip' in an attempt to encourage anyone nearby to engage in some fun-and-games. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Vaughn was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly, nobody called or came looking for Vaughn. Vaughn was neutered on February 14, 2023 and was also given rabies vaccine. Vaughn currently has the dubious honor of being the canine who has been in our shelter for the longest period of time. He has become a favorite of our kennel techs and volunteers and, though we’ve grown accustomed to his face and great personality, we would love to find a loving home for Vaughn where he would be loved 24/7 instead of the 8-10 hours we are with him at the shelter. Vaughn weighs approximately 65 lbs and has been neutered. He is full of playful energy and adores attention. Vaughn is strong on a leash and would do best with an active family who could take him on long walks/jogging and treat him to playtime. Vaughn was surrounded by three lovely ‘Irish Lasses’ afterwards (Emma Dahlgren, Emily Beaver, and Madison Lee who gave him kisses after Vaughn reminded them about the proverbial St Patrick’s Day phrase “KISS ME I’M IRISH”.

Story
Ranger came to us from a not so great situation, but you'd never guess based on his sweet personality. He is a 4 year old mountain cur who is laid back and easy to walk on the leash. He enjoys some zoomies in the yard is not one of our higher energy dogs. This sweetheart is a petite 27 lbs and would make a great addition to a home that isn't ready for a big animal or that puppy energy.
