Tonka is a 1.5 year old neutered male newfoundland who weighs 147 pounds. He came to us when his elderly owner was getting knocked down too frequently by this big boy. Tonka loves everyone that he meets and should have never been purchased by a senior citizen. He has tested well with other dogs, but was used to living with his owner and would love to be your only dog too. Tonka did chase the cats at the vet, so he cannot go to a home with cats. He rode great in the car and is a very strong boy who would love a home to call his own. Born: May 18, 2020 Name: Treasure (after my dad who hunted for treasures) my heart is crushed that I am posting this, but I need to find a new home for my dog. He has been living with my ex-husband, who is no longer able to care for him (and he will not be finding him a home.) I am stepping in to make sure he goes to the right person, not just anyone. He is a very big dog (XXL) with a calm, easygoing nature. He’s great with other dogs, good with kids, and loves the people he knows. He can be a little reserved with strangers at first but warms up with kindness and patience. He loves to sleep in bed with you for part of the night and then will move to the floor. He does not need early morning wake-ups : if you sleep in, he’s happy to sleep in too. He enjoys companionship but doesn’t require a high energy lifestyle. Car rides aren’t his favorite, so a home where he doesn’t need to travel often would be good. Please have experience with large dogs.

This friend has just arrived to us on transport from a high-intake shelter partner! When our friends are new to us, we are often unsure of their full background. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and update their bio with more information as we learn. They are pending interactions with animals until they have been cleared by our vet. Please note that we often are unsure of house, crate, car, and leash training status upon arrival. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
