Story
Kirk may be small at just 6 pounds, but his journey has been anything but easy. This handsome, fluffy Papillon/Chihuahua mix is around 1–2 years old and is learning what it means to live a life filled with safety, affection, and choice — things he never had before.  Kirk was rescued from an extreme hoarding and breeding situation where over 140 dogs were living without proper care or socialization. Because of this, he entered foster care fearful and unsure of human touch. Trust did not come easily — but love has been changing everything. In his foster home, Kirk has begun to soften. With patience and consistency, he is discovering that laps are for cuddling, voices can be gentle, and attention can be something to enjoy rather than fear. He now seeks out affection and loves being close to his people, especially when he feels secure. Kirk is still on a confidence-building journey. He will benefit from daily walks, positive reinforcement, and a calm environment where he can continue learning at his own pace. A fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus, and a home with older children or adults who understand his sensitive nature would be ideal. He is crate trained and continuing to improve with house training. Kirk is not a finished story — he is the beginning of one. A story of resilience, healing, and a dog finally becoming who he was always meant to be. If you have the patience to earn his trust (it won't take long) and the heart to love him through his transformation, Kirk will repay you with loyalty, devotion, and the quiet joy of watching a once-frightened dog flourish. Meet Benny!We were told he was a 1 year old maltese and we definitely were not expecting a dog looking like him to show up! Supposedly he's maltese mixed with some chihuahua, but there's definitely a bigger heavier breed in there- maybe some pom, corgi, papillon, and/or shih tzu?! He's 18lbs full grown, long with short legs and a stocky body. His elderly owner had a stroke and couldn't care for him any longer. He was not taken outside regularly so has a lot of pent up puppy energy and loves to do zoomies, a fun active little guy. He will need some work on housebreaking and was using wee wee pads mostly. He's been neutered and had his cherry eyes repaired with surgery, and is recovering nicely and ready for a home. Please submit an application to meet Benny! Health Condition * Neutered. * Microchipped, and undergoing treatment for heartworm. 2.) Rescue Story * Moonji was living in a yard in Gimje. Unfortunately, as the elderly owners’ health declined, the dogs were left without proper care for a long time. Adogs gave the grandparents some time to say goodbye to their beloved dogs before safely rescuing Moonji along with five other dogs. 3.) Basic Information * With People: Is a little shy and tense around strangers at first, but quickly warms up if offered treats. Accepts human touch well. * With Dogs: Is not very interested in other dogs and prefers spending time alone. * Separation Anxiety: Unknown, as he currently lives in a group setting at our center. * Potty Training: Currently does only outdoor pottying since he resides at our center. * Walks: When he feels uncomfortable, he might get stubborn and stop walking, but most of the time, he follows his handler well. * Car Sickness: Travels well in the car without motion sickness. * Biting: Is usually very gentle, but may mouth a little bit if you try to touch him forcefully. Doesn’t show aggression. * Barking: Is quiet; doesn’t bark or whine. * Likes: Loves treats! Even when shy, treats help him open up and respond well to training. * Dislikes: Becomes cautious and uncomfortable with loud noises or when held forcefully. Is uncomfortable when strangers approach him.
