Story
Don't we all wish we were a little bit taller? Nope. Not Shorty. He is perfectly happy at the height he is. Low to the ground where he can sniff out any fallen snacks. Tall enough to jump on the bed and take a snooze with you. Some people assume he's a Dalmatian, but he is all Terrier! He may be a bit shy at first, but give him a day to decompress and you will be showered with love and appreciation. It's starting to look a lot like Christmas, and what's Christmas without a place to call home. Give Shorty the holiday of his dreams. Adopt this spectacular boy today! Here's some notes from his foster: Shorty has been doing really well. When I was playing with him at Muttville he let me carry him for a while after the event ended. He was such a good boy and created a dog pile with three other residents. They were so cute together. After he returned when the adoption event ended, he has been great. I have been dog sitting another dog and they have been getting along well and learning each others boundaries. So far it has been great and no issues there. At night Shorty sleeps next to me. Shorty has also started playing with toys after watching my other house guest and going up and down the stairs in the house with confidence. This long little short guy is clever and spunky! Shorty seems to be very well house trained. He loves his food and snacks. He is however a little bit timid at times and could use some patient reassurance to his confidence. He likes to keep people in sight, learning what goes on and what might come next. At the end of the day Shorty adores cuddling up close when it's chilly.

Story
Looking for a little sweetness with a twist of cool? Meet Thin Mint. A delightful Rat Terrier who is unbelievably addicting. Once you get your hands on him you won't want to share. Thin Mint loves the scritches! You can scritch his back, head, chin, and he appreciates a gentle touch. At just 13 years young, this delightful boy sure does have some pep in his step. If you don't fall in love with his big, gorgeous eyes, his life size ears will undoubtedly grab your attention. Come catch a glimpse of the sweet treat everyone is raving over. Take home Thin Mint today! Here's some notes from his foster: Thin Mint is very sweet and easy! He's completely potty trained. He's very good on a leash and very efficient on his short walks/bathroom breaks. He can do stairs but prefers downstairs to upstairs. He loves kraft singles and is so good at taking his meds with them. He's so good with the other dogs at HQ and people. He's not super into eating breakfast but has eaten dinner everyday. Seems to only want to eat 1x a day (unless it's cheese, he'll eat that 24/7/365). He has his spots in the apartment he loves and feels comfy and sleeps all night (and naps all day). He also wants to cuddle and be close to people. He really likes my boyfriend, so gets along with both men & women.

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, January 25th from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $600   Gingerbread is an option for foster to adopt   Gingerbread is a 4 year old Rat Terrier x Italian Greyhound mix who’s serving up sweetness regardless of the season! Gingerbread was rescued from the shelter during the holiday season and we instantly knew he needed an invite to the DPS cookie exchange so we scooped him up on our sleigh and sped off into the sunset! He helped make our season bright and now he’s ready to head off to his forever home and keep the good times going! Gingerbread weighs 16 pounds and has amazing Dumbo ears that make him catch all the eyes as he walks down the block. Come enjoy a tasty treat and adopt Gingerbread!     Gingerbread is a caterpillar who is ready to find his home that will help him blossom into a butterfly. As he has grown more confident in his foster home, his personality has started to develop, showing us what an amazing dude he is. Gingerbread is more of a cat than a dog, as he finds warm spots to lounge the day away in as he chases the sunshine. Gingerbread is fairly independent but he did befriend the dad in the house and loves his cuddles. He would be an ideal fit for a home looking for quiet and loving companionship. Gingerbread is very treat motivated and eager to please so he has delighted in learning new things. While he is small, he can tackle any adventure you throw his way and has been exploring all the local hiking trails with his foster humans! However, at the end of the day our boy is a total couch potato who would love cuddling up and watching TV! This special boy will be the perfect companion for his human who finds him, we know it! Gingerbread wakes up around 6:30 AM and immediately requests cuddles from his foster humans. He goes out for potty before he has his breakfast. Following his morning meal, he lounges outside in the sunshine or on the couch. He goes on a morning walk around 10 AM and then cozies up under his blankets. He’s fairly content to snooze most of the day away until his afternoon walk followed by dinner around 6:30 PM. He hangs out on the couch or on his bed in the evening. After one last potty break around 10 PM he heads to his crate for the night. Gingerbread currently lives with two medium sized dogs and they coexist well. He is not super playful but they enjoy spending time together. Gingerbread walks well on a leash and enjoys his outings. His dream home is one willing to give him the patience and space he needs to blossom. He is still learning how to “dog” and will need a home who is understanding of his quirks. Gingerbread promises that if you give him a chance he will provide you a lifetime of delicious love!     Gingerbread is only an option for homes with shy dog experience. He is an option for homes with teens or an adults-only home. January 29, 2025, 4:26 pm

Looking for a smart, playful, and affectionate companion? Well, here’s a hint: It’s Sudoku! This 9-month-old, 12-pound Rat Terrier mix is ready to solve the mystery of his forever home—could it be yours? Sudoku started off a little hesitant, like a tricky puzzle with a few missing numbers. But once he settled in, the solution was clear—he’s an absolute sweetheart! Now, he’s a snuggle champion, a dedicated lap-warmer, and a certified foot-warmer (seriously, he loves lying on your feet). He follows his people everywhere, making sure the whole “team” stays together. If someone dares leave the room, he’ll let you know that the group chat is incomplete until they return! This little guy has energy to spare and a love for adventure. His favorite activities include zooming around the yard, playing fetch, and bringing you toys with a gentle tug on your sleeve—just in case you forgot it’s playtime. He’s always up for a walk (or two…or three), though his idea of a “walk” involves a lot of sniffing, squirrel-watching, and the occasional longing whimper for a passing dog friend. Sudoku is a quick learner—he’s mastered the art of potty pads, is making great progress with housetraining, and happily settles into his crate at bedtime. He’s even conquered his initial fear of grass and now treats the backyard like his personal playground. Sudoku would thrive in an active home with kids to play with, but he’s just as happy curling up with someone who enjoys a quiet life and is looking for their final puzzle piece. He adapts easily and just wants to be wherever his person is—whether that means joining you on adventures or simply keeping your feet warm while you read a book. No matter your lifestyle, Sudoku is ready to fit right in and make every day a little brighter. Are you ready to complete the puzzle? Adopt Sudoku today and make your life a little more paw-some!Sudoku is an option for a home with lots of experience or no experience. Story
Ginny  is super sweet and playful, especially with other dogs. She's a little skittish at first and takes a little while to warm up, but once she's comfortable with you, she is sweet, a champion snuggler, and an all-around great companion. Energy Level?  Medium House trained?  Yes Describe how they are on a leash. Does well on a leash. Likes to stop and smell all the smells. Describe how they are with other dogs?     Ginny plays nice with other dogs and has lived with other dogs; however, she would do well as your one and only.   She loves all the attention. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they?  Ginny has been in home with a dog-savvy cat and did very well. Commands they know?  She comes when called.  What are their favorite things?  Playing with other dogs, chewing on toys and treats, and snuggling with her people. She also enjoys being outside and exploring our backyard. What do they need to work on?   Ginny  is still learning what's okay and not okay to chew. She'll need lots of toys that are safe for chewing and some patience and understanding while she figures it out.  How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone?  She has been alone for up to 8 hours and has been okay. She may howl briefly as we leave but then quiets down. She is generally happy in her crate and has a good view of all her foster fur siblings. Where do they sleep?  In a small crate in our bedroom. She sleeps well through the night and enjoys a morning snuggle in our bed when there's time. What is their ideal home?   Ginny 's perfect home includes at least one other similarly-sized dog because doggy playtime is her favorite thing. She'll need a family who can give her some time and space to get comfortable, as she can be pretty skittish initially. She'll also need patience as she learns what's okay to chew and what's not. Once she's comfortable with you and all settled in, she is an excellent companion and will reward you with epic snuggles and much love. Ginny should be in an adult only home. Story
Schneider is a big-hearted terrier mix with a larger-than-life personality to match his size. His striking white coat, perfectly speckled ears, and a sweet touch of pink on his muzzle make him truly one of a kind. Despite a tough past, Schneider is a resilient pup who’s ready to leave it all behind and embrace the brighter days ahead. This energetic boy is brimming with enthusiasm for life and is on the hunt for a best friend who will match his love for adventure. Whether it’s long walks, playtime, or just being by your side, Schneider’s loyalty and love are unmatched. If you’re ready to give this spirited pup the fresh start he deserves, Schneider is ready to meet you and make your life infinitely better! Here's some notes from his foster: Schneider has been a great houseguest! It's hard to put into words how wonderful he is—you just have to adopt him to see for yourself (haha!). Initially, he was shy and timid with us, but he has since transitioned seamlessly into our daily lives, which include long walks, working from home or coffee shops, trips to the Presidio, and waking up and going to sleep early. Our favorite thing about Schneider so far is his personality - he gets the funniest "food comas" and always lets you know how he’s feeling (most of the time sweet, but occasionally sour). He’s also fantastic company. He’ll sit next to you or lay down to keep you company while you’re working. Schneider loves his food (& treats!). He is also quite talkative — often mumbling, oinking, snoring, and the like! If you take him on a car ride, be sure to have the windows down as he loves all the sights & sounds the world has to offer. All that to say, we have really enjoyed having Schneider and will be happy (but also a little sad!) when he finds his forever home. Schneider is ready to be loved on and played with by anyone who wants to offer it!

Thank you for your inquiry. Trigger has an adopter but we have to wait for them to go pick him up after the stay at home is lifted. Once he is picked up we will remove his profile. Please do not write to us for an application. Sorry for any inconvenience. Trigger is only 11 inches tall and 19 pounds. He has all the wonderful traits you expect in a Jack Russell Terrier. He loves to lie out in the sun and go in the garage to look for mice. He plays okay with other dogs of all sizes. He would love to be an only dog if his person was around a lot but he wouldn’t like being left alone for 8 hours a day without canine company. He is untested with cats. Trigger is ok with children over 7 years old. He loves giving and getting lots of attention. Adores treats, walks, car rides and cuddles. He is an active kind of guy, always looking for adventures in everyday life. He is a real character and is full of love for his people. He sleeps in his bed all night long though he really would prefer yours so he can cuddle with you. He is a very quiet and smart dog who understands what you are saying to him.
