Story
FOSTER NEEDED! Scooter was rescued by Jelly's Place after being hit by a car in the Central Valley, without use of his back legs. He has been treated by our vet and had some pretty serious fractures to his lower spine. We thought he would never be able to walk, but Scooter keeps surprising us! This fierce little boy has a strong spirit, and can now stand occasionally, and is doing great with his "wheels"! We absolutely adore this doggy and can't wait for him to find his furever home who will love him as much as we do. The perfect home for Scooter would be a quiet home, adults/older kids, with a nice soft yard where he can play and chase squirrels. He would be fine with another small to medium dog. He is so loving and resilient, he will bark at stranger but quickly become their best friend. Scooter is a small loving boy with a lion's heart. He is currently our office dog so you will have to prove your love for him for us to let him go. Scooter is neutered, UTD on vaccines and microchipped. If interested in meeting this very special boy, please complete an application at jellysplace.org.

Story
This little gem is a medical special needs pup. Sasha is a very sweet and easy going 1-2 year old Bichon mix; she is about 11 pounds. She loves all people and dogs and enamors everyone she meets. She walks well on leash, sleeps through the night in her crate, and does relatively well with her alone time. She has an adorable way of getting one's attention and loves to play with other dogs. Unfortunately Sasha was most likely hit by a car at some point and her spine is broken in her lower back. She has full use of all her legs, but she's completely incontinent. Her foster assists her to empty her bladder 3-4 times per day (easy to do, and a potential adopter could be taught to do it). If she is assisted to empty her bladder, her diaper stays dry and her fur stays clean. Due to her condition, Sasha is prone to UTIs, but helping her to empty her bladder regularly decreases this potential. Luckily she doesn't show any signs of pain and has a full life expectancy. Sasha will need to live with someone who is home most of the time. She'd probably do best in a home with a yard, so she doesn't always have to be in a diaper, but she would also be an easy dog for an apartment dweller as she doesn't necessarily have to be walked first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Since Sasha is "non-shedding, she will need regular grooming. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Sasha is $200. If you are interested in adopting Sasha, please complete our online adoption application at  https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/   . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. We will consider applicants outside the 9-county San Francisco Bay Area for Sasha, as long as applicant is able to travel to Oakland for meet and greet, and pick up. May 2, 2024, 10:47 pm

Story
Rumors are flying over here at Muttville. Yen, the new lady in town is said to have lived a wild life full of adventures and sunbeam naps. We've heard that she gets along with cats, is potty trained, and used to date Prince Charles when they were both in collage. Maybe if you're super lucky, you'll become her best friend and she will tell you all about it. Here's some notes from her foster: Yen is house trained if taken out regularly and does not need many potty breaks. I took her out pretty often to figure out her potty needs, and it seems like she generally needs to go as soon as she wakes up in the morning, after she has breakfast (about an hour later), late morning/noonish, late afternoon, and after dinner. If she didn't need to go, she'd poke around a bit and then just sit/lay down. She can't do stairs but was fine with me carrying her up and down our stairs. She mostly napped, alternating between a dog bed with a blanket and laying on the floor next to the bed. She slept through the nights in a dog bed. She'd wake up just before I was going to bed a few hours after she first fell asleep, so I'd just pet her a bit until she started falling asleep again. She generally didn't pay any attention to our cat or dog. Every once in a while she'd notice our cat and walk towards her from curiosity, but our cat would always go somewhere else and avoid interacting with her. I don't think she sees very well, but she was able to navigate around our furniture/doorways without bumping into anything. She does have some separation anxiety. We haven't had to leave her alone very often or very long so far, but she barked/cried the whole time if she was awake while we're gone. Because she doesn't see/hear very well, she just needs a reassuring touch when she wakes up and starts walking around "looking" for someone. Then she knows she's not alone and just settles down again for another snooze. She's low energy and doesn't seem interested in walks. She does seem to enjoy sniffing around for short outings and is very comfortable being in a carrier. I took her with me for a Sunday lunch with a friend, and she sat quietly in the carrier the whole time without whining or trying to get food. I suspect her previous person carried her around a lot.
