Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This cutie is Snickers. We think he was dumped  with several other dogs like him. He is a very timid boy who needs a lot of work in the confidence department. Right now he is not comfortable accepting pets from his foster mom but is starting to accept treats from her. He likes to be near his people but is working on touch being okay and comfortable for him.  He does good with other dogs and would do best in an adoptive home with another confident dog present to help him feel more comfortable.  He does howl when not near another dog or human so no shared walls for him. He is working on potty training.  Snickers is a flight risk and will need an adoptive home who can keep him safe and secure at all times, he must always be leashed when outdoors, even if in a fenced in area. Snickers would do best in an adult only home that is a relaxed calm environment.  Snickers is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 16, 2024, 11:55 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Laffy Taffy, or Taffy as we call her, is a young Pekingese with a tale as unique as her name. Taffy came to Minnesota from Texas, where her adventure took an unexpected turn. After slipping away from her first foster home, she was on the run for 50 days.  She crossed multiple cities, proving just how determined and resilient she can be. Her new foster home has a secure fenced-in yard which is perfect for her.  A fenced-in yard provides her with the security she needs, allowing her to explore at her own pace without worry. Taffy requires another small dog in her forever home to help her build her confidence and learn to trust you.  Taffy is potty trained, and crate trained.   She travels quietly in a crate so that she is secured in the car. Taffy seems more comfortable with woman; she is a little unsure of men so it will be important to respect that and take it slow with her.   She allows me to pick her up and will lay next to me on the couch for a gentle rub.  Once she forms that bond, you’ll be her special someone.  Taffy likes to keep an eye on you for security when she is outside, and she will go inside/outside when you call her.  Currently, she appears most comfortable outside where she lays in the grass, and watches everything going on around her.  Taffy lives peacefully with the 5 other small dogs in her foster home.  She is learning to trust us by watching them interact with us.  She needs another confident small dog to learn from.   It will be important to keep leashes attached to Taffy outside, even in the fenced yard,  and keep an eye on her until she is fully comfortable in her new environment.  We are taking no chances of her spooking and going on another adventure.  Presently when she is inside, we keep one leash on her harness so if she does get spooked, we can quickly grab her leash and reassure her she is safe. Taffy is getting more comfortable with the noises in the house but will still startle at unfamiliar sounds or if you move too quick around her. She does like to lay in a quiet “safe” corner when she feels scared. Apartment living may be okay for Taffy but currently she is learning to walk on a leash.  Due to her skittish nature, a home without young children would be best, as their unpredictable behavior can be too much for her comfort level.   A quieter household without a lot of visitors would make her most comfortable.  If you are looking for a sweet and gentle dog then Taffy may be the perfect girl for you.   It will be important to be patient with her to earn her trust.  Fill out an application, I’d love to tell you about this sweet girl! Laffy is Heartworm positive and will need to go FTA (foster to adopt) until she finishes her treatment injections. She has not started them yet, so a foster commitment of at least 2-3 months is expected. The treatment for heartworm disease will be in St Cloud, MN.  LaffyTaffy is from Texas.  One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes.

Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi I'm  Loretta !  I'm a tiny little lady who is simply beautiful!  I'm usually a pretty chill girl that enjoys laying in the sun and watching the world go by.  I get along great with my doggie friends since I'm so easy going too.  Mom hasn't caught me playing yet, but I like to do what they do.  When they jump on mom for attention I do the same.  My tail wags  and I have the cutest smile.  I can still be a bit unsure when she reaches out to pet me or pick me up, but when I'm there my tail gives me away every time that I'm enjoying it.  Chin and neck scratches are the best ones!  Since I'm a little unsure about people I do ask for a doggie companion since they give me that boost of confidence.   I'm doing well with kennel and potty training.  I must admit I can be a little sassy and talk in my kennel for a bit sometimes.  I just don't see any reason why you wouldn't want me out with you looking at you with these gorgeous eyes.     I haven't met any kids yet.  I think little ones would probably be a bit overwhelming right now.  Their fast movements and loud noises might be a bit much making me run away to a safe spot.  Older respectful kids would probably be fine though.   I haven't learned how to walk on leash yet, but it is on my agenda.  For now a fence would be best since I know how to potty that way and I know it's safe.     If you have love in your heart and can give a little time and patience to me as I become the confident girl that I know is in me then let's meet and I know you'll fall in love. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi I'm  Peony !  I'm a sweet little lady who can be found prancing around my home on my short little legs following my foster mom wherever she goes.  My tail will be wagging and I'll have my cute happy smile.  I'm a friendly girl and I love my chin scratches and pets.  I'm a bit shy with new people, but I do warm up pretty quick. I do wonderfully with other dogs and for the most part I kind of do my own thing, but being around them does make me more confident.  When they're around I feel brave and I'm right in the crowd asking for pets and jumping against mom's leg for attention.  Since they do provide that confidence boost I do ask that my future home has a doggie friend for me.     You may have noticed that I am missing an eye.  At some point in my life it was surgically removed.  It doesn't bother me at all, but sometimes I get a bit spooked if you come up on that side where I can't see you and you pet me or pick me up.  I jump and run a few steps away because I'm surprised more than anything.  My mom has been working with me on being picked up by saying ready and up and scooping me up from the right side since I can see her that way.  I haven't met any kids and I would likely be fine with them, but they might inadvertently scare me coming up on my blind side.     I'm doing good on potty and kennel training.  I'm a pretty chill girl so I'm usually quiet in the kennel.  I haven't practiced with the leash really yet, but it's on my list of things to practice next.  I can see us trotting along into the sunset together, can't you? Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hi! I’m Wonton! Aren’t I so handsome? I am the sweetest guy and such an easy boy to have around. I like attention from my foster family but I also like doing my own thing. I love chewing on bones and playing with stuffy toys (sometimes I tear them up…oops). I can be a tiny bit bossy with other dogs so a calm, submissive dog or no dog would be ideal for me. I am great with potty training and am quiet all night in my crate. If you’re looking for a handsome adventure buddy I am your guy! Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an hi educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses.  Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.  Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Want to meet me? Come to the Orvis (5001 Excelsior Blvd, St Louis Park, MN 55416) for an Adoption Event on the patio - Saturday, September 21st from 12:00-2:00 pm. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs.   Hi there, future forever family! I'm Miss Zhao, but you can call me "Happy," because that's exactly what I am – a bundle of joy and cheer wrapped in a fluffy Pekingese package. I'm a lovely lady, tipping the scales at a dainty 14 pounds. At 6 years old, I've got the perfect mix of maturity and zest for life. Happiness is my middle name, and I'm always ready to spread the love. I enjoy the simple pleasures in life, like a backyard adventure or a session with crinkly and squeaky toys – they're my absolute favorites! A tad stubborn, you say? Well, I like to think of it as having a strong sense of self. Also, sometimes I am not the biggest fan of commotion when we go someplace until I settle in.   Treats? Yes, please! Whether it's a tasty morsel, a bully stick, or a Barking Buddha beef cheek, count me in. As for toys, the crinklier and squeakier, the better! While I'm still mastering the art of potty training, I'm making great strides with a consistent schedule. I can be a-okay in the crate, though sometimes I like to mix things up. A fenced yard? Yes, please! I love the freedom to explore and run around, but I'm hoping my forever family will work on leash training with me so we can go on adventures. In a nutshell, I'm a super nice little dog ready to bring heaps of joy and warmth into your home. If you're looking for a four-legged friend who'll greet you with a wagging tail and steal your heart, look no further. Let's embark on this journey together – you, me, and a lifetime of love and laughter! Adopt me, and let the happiness begin! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans.
