Story
Meet Nicky! 💕 This adorable little Pekingese/Japanese Chin mix looks like a tiny Ewok and has the sweetest, softest little personality. At 1½ years old, Nicky is a quiet observer who likes to take her time, watch the world around her, and decide when she’s ready to join in.
Nicky had a stressful journey north from Texas, so she needed several days before she felt comfortable leaving her kennel. Her kennel is still her safe place, and when something startles her, she’ll quietly retreat there to watch from the sidelines. But once she feels settled, she is very much a go-with-the-flow girl who loves sitting in the grass, soaking up the sunshine, and simply being near her people.
She is shy with new people and prefers to approach them rather than have them approach her. Once she does, she is perfectly happy to sit on your lap and enjoy some gentle pets. She has not made a peep in foster care so far—this little girl is wonderfully quiet and takes everything in at her own pace.
Nicky would do best in a peaceful home with older, calm children who understand that she needs slow introductions and gentle interactions. Busy households and sudden movements can be overwhelming for her, so she’ll appreciate people who let her come out of her shell at her own speed.
She is comfortable around both dogs and cats and enjoys having them nearby as long as they respect her personal space. She especially seems to enjoy when the cats rub against her. A calm animal companion could be a lovely friend for Nicky, although she would also be perfectly content soaking up her humans’ attention all by herself.
Nicky has shown little interest in toys or traditional play so far—she seems much more interested in quietly observing, getting pets, and enjoying the simple things in life. She is doing very well with potty training, rarely having accidents, and is an excellent crate girl who will happily go in on her own.
Nicky may take a little longer than some dogs to show you her whole personality, but there is something incredibly special about watching a shy little girl realize she is safe. Give this sweet Ewok some patience, peace, and time, and she is sure to blossom into an even more affectionate companion. 🐾💕
