You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Trenton is a slow-blinking, fluff-coated slice of serenity wrapped up in a Pekingese package. He’s the kind of dog who looks at you with deep, soulful eyes that say, “Let’s just take life one cozy nap at a time.” He’s gentle, sweet, and wonderfully mellow, with a soft little heart that seems to melt the second you reach down to pet him. He is discovering the joys of indoor living and has taken his role as King of Comfort very seriously. His orthopedic dog bed is his personal throne, and he arranges himself on it like a tiny emperor surveying his kingdom. He enjoys gentle strolls, yard sniffing, and slow-motion exploration, but his true passions are naps, stuffy toys, and politely following his favorite human from room to room like a fuzzy little shadow. Trenton has good potty manners and has even begun going to the door when nature calls, as if to say, “Excuse me, I must step outside to sniff the perimeter.” He sleeps well in his kennel as long as it’s close to his people, and he makes sure everyone knows precisely when breakfast should be served. He’s friendly with absolutely everyone—kids, adults, dogs, and even cats—but because he’s a bit of a delicate flower, a calmer home would suit him best. He does have a few medical needs, including daily eye drops for dry eye and support for his arthritis and luxating patellas. Fortunately, he takes all of this in stride. A little extra care is a small price to pay for the love he gives in return. He adores other gentle dogs and would enjoy a furry friend if his humans are gone part of the day, but what he truly wants is someone who is home often and willing to offer lots of affection, soft voices, slow pets, and maybe a few extra pillows for him to claim. Trenton is pure sweetness from nose to tail. He’s calm, cuddly, and full of quiet charm, and he will make his forever family feel like they’ve adopted the world’s softest little treasure. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.  Bulldogs, pugs, and Boston terriers, Brussels Griffons, Pekingese and others are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise.  Because these dogs are new into our rescue, health issues in the future may arise that we are not aware of.  Some of these issues are allergies, eye issues, yeast infections, interdigital cysts, slipped disks in their back, breathing problems, among a host of others that can occur at any time or when seasons change. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure this breed is a good fit for you and your family.  It is estimated that the average brachycephalic breed owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs. In addition to other surgeries, this dog may have had surgery on their nares and soft palate to improve the quality of their breathing.  This will be partially reflected within her adoption fee. These breeds are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses.  The application process for these breeds usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application.  They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!   This dog requires a separate application and an application fee.  This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.    We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. This dog requires a Bulldog Application.  All applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the bulldog. Our goal is place bulldogs in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the bulldog, we will not approve your application. To learn more, visit  https://underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/bulldogs/ to fill out the Bulldog application. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!           Ready for a boy that's absolutely perfect and so handsome it should be against the law? Meet Custard! Custard is a sweet gentle boy who is very mild mannered. He always has a gentle friendly tail wag ready when meeting new people and new doggie friends.  He'll play bow and do a little prance to show he's ready to play with all sizes of dog from the tall to the small he likes them all.  If they don't want to play he respectfully accepts their answer.  With people he loves his scratches and his belly rubs and will give a big happy smile his eyes dancing in delight.  If you tap his mouth while he's belly up playfully he'll gentle nibble your fingers.  Looking for a snuggle buddy.  He's got you covered and will happily lay in your arms and listen to all your secrets, hopes and dreams.  If you need some comfort from a long day his soft fur will quickly  take away all your stress and turn any frown upside down. He hasn't met any kids yet, but with his gentle demeanor he would likely adore kids.  He's doing amazing with potty training and going potty on leash outside.  Steps are no problem either for this guy. Kennel training is going well and he keeps it clean.  He can protest in it off and on because he just wants to be with you or out with his doggie pals, but he is working on it since it's new for him. If you're looking for a gentle kind soul who will fill your heart with joy then Custard is the boy of your dreams.   I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work!
