Born: March 13, 2016 I am 15lbs and I am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $450 All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. An application is required to view our adoptable pets. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. About Me: Name: Amelia and Bedelia Breed (or best guess): Bichon Mix Approximate Age: 6 yr Gender: Female Approximate Weight:  Adoption Fee: $800 for the pair Requirements: Fenced yard, patient adopter Why In Rescue: surrendered breeding dogs Profile:  Amelia and Bedelia are best friends who love to cuddle and groom each other.  They came to us with a number of other dogs from the same facility.  Amelia had a scratched eye that has now healed and is all fine now.  Bedelia had a severe head tilt, which we discovered was due to a bad ear infection.  After weeks of treatment, she is much better and ready to be adopted.  Like most retired breeding dogs, these girls are shy and are now learning to trust people.  They haven't worked on leash walking yet, but we either pick them up to take them out to the fenced area, or allow them to follow us out.  Another small social dog in the home may help the girls figure out housetraining faster, but we won't require another dog in the home because they have each other.  Please review the information on puppy mill dogs before applying to adopt Amelia and Bedelia, as they will require a person with extra patience to allow them to flourish in their new home. Amelia and Bedelia came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use them for breeding.  Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation.
