Story

Cooper is a 4 year old, full blood pembroke welsh corgi. He is full of energy and would benefit from a large fenced yard. He currently goes out to potty on a leash, and if it comes off he will stand near so that you can put it back on. He has been house trained. He sits and shakes for a treat. He will tell you if he needs to go potty or if he wants a treat by running to that designated area. My husband and I both work 12 hour shifts and he has been spending most of his time in the kennel. We don’t have a fenced yard for him to run and get out his energy. He needs an owner with more time and patience. The only downside is, he is naturally a herding dog so any running in the house gets him riled up.

Story

Mikey came into the shelter as a stray, and no one showed up to claim this cute guy. Initially he was hesitant to trust his foster family, but after a couple days of sweet talk, treats, and patience, he has become a very good boy. He has many attributes of the Corgi breed and also seems to have some similarity to a Chihuahua, so the best guess is he's a mix of both breeds. He is fun sized, at just 15 lbs, but he needs a nutritious diet and consistent exercise to keep him at a healthy weight. Mikey has a joyful approach to everything, and his adorable tail literally never stops wagging. He has gotten along very well with the dogs in his foster home (ranging in size from 20 pounds to 100 pounds) and also seems to enjoy the company of cats, meeting the cat there with confidence and not a speck of aggression. He doesn't bark unless he is communicating something he needs, like dinner, potty time, or to let you know there is a delivery truck in your driveway. Mikey is not a perfect dog, he needs more confidence and stability and a little time to get to know new people, but he tries hard to understand the rules and has already become more confident when meeting new people. He is working on housetraining skills, and he's been very easy to manage with his little velcro pants and making sure he gets outside in time to decorate the outdoors, not the indoors. Mikey responds best to patient and kind training. To help grow his confidence, the fosters are careful to keep basic training time positive, quiet and kind. Mikey is a dog who responds perfectly to patience and kindness. Mikey needs a home that is fairly calm and quiet. He should be fine with kids over the age of 10, as long as they understand it may take him a little time to adjust to his new home, and to show his playful, funny side. Please submit your application to adopt Mikey, and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Story

Meet Beast 🤎 At 23 pounds and 3 years old, Beast may have a big name, but he's really just a little guy looking for someone to love him. Beast came to NTASR as an owner surrender from Oklahoma along with Belle and Anakin. He had been living outside and came to us with flea dermatitis and ongoing back issues. He's spent much of his time in foster care on crate rest while his back gets the time and rest it needs. Beast has been a total champ about it. He's been incredibly patient and well behaved during his crate rest, but don't let all that good behavior fool you. This guy has opinions. He does not appreciate sprinklers. He does not appreciate vacuums. He does not appreciate loud noises in general. The house is still a new and scary place. What he does appreciate? Cuddles. Scratchies. Being loved. And apparently, your undivided attention. Because if you're petting Beast while holding your phone, he will absolutely make sure you understand that the phone needs to go away. 😂 Beast does well with other dogs as long as they respect his boundaries. He's perfectly happy to coexist and hang out, but if another dog decides to come in with a little too much attitude, Beast is happy to remind them that he is, in fact, a 23-pound man with standards. He does well on a leash, is house trained, crate trained, and food motivated! For now, his activity will need to be managed according to his medical needs, but what Beast really wants is pretty simple: a soft place to land, a person who will give him all the scratches, and a home where he can finally feel safe and loved. He's spent enough time outside. Now he's ready for the good life. 🤎🐾

Story

Meet Diane 🤍 Some people collect shoes. Diane protects them. Seriously. If you're her person, your shoes are now under 24/7 security. We don't know who she thinks is coming for them... but rest assured, she's got it handled. Estimated to be 4-5 years old, Diane came to NTASR after she and another Corgi, Jack, were found abandoned in a metal crate on the side of the road during the middle of a Texas heatwave. In July. In Texas. They were covered in fleas, their skin was in rough shape, and they were desperately trying to escape the scorching heat. Thankfully, they don't have to survive anymore. Now they just get to learn what it's like to be loved. Diane is the sweetest, gentlest little soul. She's mostly chill, loves a good nap, and is happiest simply following her person from room to room. She's your little shadow, but in the least clingy way possible. Just close enough to make sure you're doing okay. She gets along well with other dogs, walks nicely on a leash, and is crate trained. She's a little shy at first, but once she trusts you, you'll wonder how you ever lived without your quiet little sidekick. Diane at a glance: 🤍 Estimated 4-5 years old 🦮 Walks on leash 🏡 Crate trained 🐶 Good with other dogs 😴 Champion napper 👟 Head of Shoe Security ✨ Quiet, gentle, affectionate, and the definition of a loyal companion Medical Hold: Diane is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, so she'll be available for adoption once she's finished recovering. She's only been in rescue since July 9 - and you can tell she's still healing. After everything she's been through, we're pretty sure Diane has earned a lifetime of naps, belly rubs, and a family whose biggest concern is whether she has enough blankets. (And maybe keeping an eye on their shoes.) 🧡
