What we know: 3-year-old Husky mix transferred from Española Humane Society in New Mexico. Originally an owner/guardian surrender.
From the foster: Meet Togo!
Togo is a blue-eyed beauty who is sure to steal your heart! This handsome white Husky has a wonderfully independent personality. He doesn't need constant attention or entertainment, but he does enjoy getting out and about. A daily walk of around three miles would be a great way to keep this boy happy, healthy, and ready to relax.
Togo is fantastic with other dogs. He enjoys playing but isn't constantly in their space, and he does a wonderful job reading their social cues and knowing when it's time to give them a break. He's also a very easygoing eater with no food-guarding issues, making him a lovely potential companion for a home with another dog.
He's a nice walking partner, too. Togo enjoys meeting other dogs and is curious about them without being reactive. He may give the leash a little tug when he'd rather stop and investigate an interesting smell, but he's not a substantial puller.
Togo is a pro at using the doggie door and happily lets himself in and out. He's still learning the finer points of being a house dog, including consistent potty habits, so his new family will need to give him some patience and positive reinforcement while he gets the hang of things. He currently prefers doing his business in the yard rather than while on leash, so a securely fenced yard would be especially helpful as he settles into his new home.
He's also still discovering that the inside of a house can be a great place to relax. Right now, you'll often find Togo stretched out happily in the grass rather than lounging indoors. He's making progress, but he'll need time to acclimate to the sights, sounds, routines, and comforts of a home. Because he's not a fan of spending extended periods in a crate, Togo would be happiest with a family that doesn't require him to be crated. Once he's comfortable and his new family understands his routines, he may very well enjoy having the freedom to relax in the house. Mental stimulation, squeaky toys, and appropriate chew toys can help make that transition even more rewarding.
Perhaps the best thing about Togo is his sweet, genuine personality. He may be a little cautious when meeting someone new, so give him a few minutes to decide you're a friend. Once he trusts you, though, he's completely yours!
If you're looking for a loving Husky with plenty of life and adventure ahead of him, but who has already moved beyond the most destructive puppy stage, come meet Togo. He may just be the blue-eyed companion you've been waiting for!
