Story
Personality: There could be no better cat than Shadow! He was named not because of his black coloring but because he wants to be around you all the time - he is his person's shadow! He is happiest when he has a person who he can kiss and snuggle with constantly. If you are sitting on the sofa, he wants to be in your lap (although he prefers if you lay down so he can fall asleep curled up on your chest). He is very simple-minded, laid-back, and easily happy. A person and a toy or two and he is as happy as can be, and will contentedly knead his paws and purr. It may take him a week or two when he meets a new cat, but after that he wants to be best friends with them. His favorite toys are small "beast labs" (children's toys) and he also loves small cotton balls and hair ties. Yes, we realize there are no real cat toys on this list-but he is a unique kitten/cat! Special Needs: Shadow has so many quirks and small deformities, that we really don't know if he was born with them or whether he had a trauma like a car accident. He is about 9 months old and originally came from a Baltimore animal shelter. He was originally taken in by Journeys when he was about 7 weeks old with the belief that he would need his front leg amputated - his paw was severely deformed and he had a small limp. After being taken in by Journeys and seen by an orthopedic vet, it was decided that he should keep his leg, as taking it off could create problems with his other legs fully supporting him - because those legs weren't fully normal either! Movement-wise, Shadow is surprisingly not special needs, despite what was expected! He can run and play very well! And sure, he can't jump to a high counter or jump down from your arms because his legs wouldn't be able to support that, but he has just about fully functioning legs! So other than a little "click" from his paw hitting the floor (because his right front paw is larger and flatter than normal so his pad makes a larger sound when he walks) he walks normally. What makes Shadow special needs is that he has REM Sleeping Disorder which causes him to have what look like tiny seizures while he sleeps. He has been given a medication to help decrease the mini seizures (gabapentin), but it will take time to figure out what works. He will need daily medication in his new home. To add to his quirkiness, Shadow has a love of water. The vet believes he may be blind in one eye so it's possible some of his water play could be an attempt to figure out the depth of the water. But leave a toilet seat open and Shadow is in heaven. He will also splish and splash in his water dish before he takes a drink! Please email journeyscatrescue@gmail.com for more information

Story
Marley is about 5 months old and she was found as a stray in Philadelphia and taken to ACCT Philly. They found she had a broken leg and a very large umbilical hernia and their shelter vet recommended that she be transferred to another rescue ASAP in order for her hernia to be fixed and her leg to be amputated. Marley was transferred to Journeys the second week of August but when we took her to an orthopedic vet, it was recommended that we hold off on the amputation for another couple of weeks because she was showing signs of possible healing. We kept her calm to promote better healing and she is now fully using her leg! Marley is an exceptionally sweet kitten who gives kisses, purrs constantly, doesn't mind other cats, and enjoys playing. She's an all-around great girl! Please contact Journeys for an application.
