Meet Shakira! Shakira is a sweet little pup that loves to roll around for belly rubs and she sits beautifully for treats. It seems that someone has already started teaching her basic cues, because she's so smart! She is learning to be a leash pro and she takes treats gently too! From Shakira's current foster parent: " Shakira is the happiest dog on the planet. She is constantly wagging her tail and smiling. She's great with people, other dogs, and is currently getting used to cats! Shakira loves chew toys and running around the backyard. She is an awesome hiking partner and will greet anyone she sees. Shakira is a cuddler and will literally spoon you on the couch. She is good in her crate and on the leash. Not every dog attends every adoption event. Interested in this pup? The first step is to complete our online application by clicking the "Apply for Adoption" button. Please note that we are only able to finalize adoptions at events for approved adopters. The earlier you apply, the better as it takes time to review and approve applications. We host adoption events almost every Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm at our rescue office (1721 W Harmony, unit 102, Fort Collins, Co 80526)! Check our Instagram and/or Facebook page for info on where we will be hosting adoptions this weekend! All Aboard Animal Rescue saves dogs and puppies from high-kill shelters in other states. These pups are brought to Colorado, where they are required to be spayed or neutered - breaking the cycle of unwanted litters of puppies who end up as strays! Say Howdy to Daryl and Jessie! Their owner had to surrender them after an unexpected medical condition left him unable to care for them.  This bonded pair are only a year apart, and have been raised together since puppyhood so we really want to keep them together! He’s a little bit country and she’s a little bit rock-n-roll, but they go together like peas and carrots!  Daryl is a laid-back, handsome brindle with a sweet, calm demeanor, and gives the best dog hugs ever! The true hound that he is, he loves long walks with his nose to the ground or in the air to make sure those pesky squirrels stay up in the trees.  But don’t let him fool you, he has a funny, mischievous side as well.  If his nose can reach it, his mouth can eat it, but only when you’re not looking.   While Daryl is happy moseying along, Jessie’s ready to put the pedal to the metal.   She puts the “sass” in sassafras!   When this girl gets excited, clear the floor, ‘cause she likes to dance like no one’s watching!  This little fashionista somehow matched her eyes to her coat, she’s a real beauty!  But there’s nothing she loves more than snuggling up with you on the couch.  That is, once you move her over an inch and squeeze in beside her.  She’s not giving up her spot easily! They may be polar opposites, but they agree that they are looking for somebody with a lot of love to give…and treats(bones)…and cuddles…and belly/butt rubs and, oh yeah, a big yard would be great because, well, they’re not the best on leash, but they’re getting better!   May 3, 2024, 3:33 pm

Story

Murphy is a wonderful dog that we've had since she was a puppy. She loves toys and always has. Things were great with our little pack of 5 dogs, until my son moved out and took his dog with him. The power dynamic changed and Murphy began picking fights with our oldest dog who is 20 pounds heavier than she is. We sent her to a dog trainer 6 months ago who fell in love with her and decided to keep her. We got a call a week ago from the Boulder County Humane Society that stated she had been surrendered, so we retrieved her immediately and tried to reintegrate her into the pack. We were unable to contact the trainer who had taken her, and she returned to the same behavior that she had shown before. We are unable to care for her and the other dogs, and we fear that they will start fighting for no reason. She is friendly with everyone, and friendly with other animals too. It's just this particular dynamic that she can't be part of.

Introducing Tiger! Tiger was saved from the euthanasia list at ACS in San Antonio in January. A little back story on him…get your tissues ready…this poor guy has had a terrible life. The kind soul who saved him from being euthanized lived next door to Tiger and helped take care of him his whole life. Tiger’s owner passed away a couple of months ago, and the owner’s girlfriend surrendered Tiger to ACS. His owner had him tied up outside all his life. He was always neglected and infested with fleas. Often the neighbor found herself having to feed and give him water because his owner would not. Despite living in such miserable conditions, in those moments of offering Tiger care, she said he was the sweetest and most caring dog and when she found out he had been surrendered, she could not let him lose his life. He deserves the chance to know love and be loved.  Tiger is an older gentleman. He’s 8, almost 9 years old and weighs in at 65 pounds. He is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and current on both flea & tick and heartworm prevention. He’s goofy, gentle, and playful for his age. He’s great with anyone he meets and other dogs too but would do best in a home without cats. Meet Sally! Sally was rescued from a rural shelter in Fort Worth, Texas, and she is definitely ready for her new Colorado adventures! She is about 2 years old and 45 pounds. Her adorable short brindle coat comes from her Plott Hound mix. Her wisdom surpasses her years- she has already brought a litter of pups into the world, and she is a natural nurturer. She loves to cuddle and is SO gentle and affectionate with ALL people, especially children! We are unsure how she is with cats. Sally loves to play with other dogs after a proper introduction. Sally is so smart and eager to please, and she already knows some commands and is fully housetrained, crate-trained, and walks very well on a leash! She loves to run, play, and go on walks, and of course snuggle, so she would love an active home! Sally is SO sweet and loving! She can’t wait to find her forever home!! Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35).
