Story
+Plotthound+2 yrs old; 37lbs+Little shy and meek but gaining her footing daily. Very dog social and starting to give us kisses! Our pretty brindle lady PETAL is acting a bit like a delicate petal as she works to settle in and find her new normal, but in the big picture, she`s doing a terrific job.   Shy and meek and a bit darty,  she`s made huge strides in leash walking and her confidence level as she explores and checks out our facility is growing exponentially.  She has a very bouncy, confident teen pup as her roommate who is showing her that it`s all OK and for her first round of pics,  imagine how gratifying it was when she relaxed on her side looking for belly rubs.  YES!!  Petal is very dog social and perhaps would benefit from having a 4 legged friend in her new home.   Mild mannered and gentle natured,  she`s starting to kiss us, nuzzle us and even her tiny, micro nub of a tail is wiggling with contentment.  Petal has previously lived a very underserved life so imagine the difference YOU can make in her life by adding her to your family.  Ask for Petal today!

Story
Meet Dandy Dandy is a gorgeous Plott Hound mix. She was rescued from a high kill shelter. This beauty is incredible! Dandy is two years old. She is super sweet, affectionate, friendly and outgoing. She's absolutely gorgeous with long legs and a long, lean body. Dandy loves our shelter staff and volunteers. She is so happy to see them, and she calmly sits for scratches and gentle pets. Dandy travels well in a car and likes going places. Dandy is energetic and would do well with an active family or person. She loves walks/hikes, likes to run in a fenced yard, she might even enjoy dog parks or doggie daycare. She loves other dogs and plays very well. She can be submissive if she’s feeling overwhelmed by other dogs. Dandy does great with kids and likes cats. Dandy is sensitive and very smart. She is a gentle soul. Dandy had so many advocates trying to get her to safety and we can see why. She is amazing. It’s so hard to understand how a perfect dog like Dandy finds herself homeless, but the family or person who adopt her will be getting a gem. Dandy is spayed and up to date on all vaccines. If interested in Dandy, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Boone Boone is an absolutely stunning young dog. We rescued him from a high kill shelter. We think Boone is a Plott hound mix, possibly Tennesee Treeing Hound based on his overall looks and ears. He came in to us as an older puppy and sadly, he is still with us after over five years. Boone is almost 6 years old and is 57 lbs of muscle and heart. Since arriving Boone has been a gentleman dog. He’s really friendly. He’s energetic, but it’s not frenetic activity. Boone is polite and rather calm, especially considering how long he has been confined to a shelter. He walks great on a leash, and loves being out of his kennel to enjoy the companionship of his person. Boone will make for a great hiker. This breed is known for its stamina, endurance and agility. They can be all business and focused when working or engaged in training, but when at home they are mellow and enjoy the downtime. Boone is definitely a staff favorite and our hearts are broken that he has been with us so long. Boone is smart and alert. He will do best in an active home where he is physically and mentally occupied. He seems to like other dogs and but is not a fan of cats. Boone hopes to get his chance to go home, and he is going to make for a wonderful companion and will be loyal to his people. If you are looking for a fun, sweet and active boy, not to mention incredibly handsome, Boone may be the one for you. If interested in Boone, please submit an application on the homepage of this website www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to verify that we received your application. . Story
Meet Loner! This two year old hound mix is a medium sized, fun size `just right` kind of guy! He`s full of quiet sweetness and so much untapped potential. He came to us skinny and from a hoarding situation, where life was crowded and chaotic, and human connection wasn`t something he really got to experience the way he should have. Because of that, he`s still learning what it means to be a loved and cared for doggie. He has that classic hound charm, a curious spirit, a love for exploring, and a playful side that peeks out more each day as he gains confidence. He makes the staff crack up laughing with his goofiness when playing with other dogs. He`s ready for a fresh start. All he`s missing is the person who will show him what home is supposed to feel like. With his unique look and quiet charm he`s ready to find a forever home! Come and meet Loner today and feel your heart warm!
