1-year-old neutered male Plott Hound/Shepherd mix, arrived at the shelter on 1/12/26 as an owner surrender.Large sizeMedium energyDuke has some really long legs and and he’s still growing into them. He reminds me of Marmaduke and maybe that’s where the name comes from. Despite his size, Duke is easy to handle on the leash, just as nice as he can be to humans, and consistently does well with other dogs. Duke has all the makings to be a wonderful family dog - gentle, well-mannered, responsive, and affectionate.The Henrico Police Animal Shelter is accessible by appointment only. Animals available for adoption can be viewed online at petfinder.com or adoptapet.com. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2627436##

Meet Maggie, a gentle and loving Plott Hound mix who’s been through a lot but still has the kindest soul. At about 3 years old, Maggie is sweet, docile, and laid-back — the kind of dog who just wants a soft bed, kind words, and someone to love her. She’s easygoing and quiet, happy to curl up near you and soak in affection. Maggie has a large tumor that needs to be removed, but the wonderful news is that her surgery is fully sponsored! What she needs most now is a forever home where she can recover surrounded by comfort and care. This girl has so much love left to give, and she deserves the chance to heal and start her next chapter in a home, not a kennel. If you can open your heart and home to help Maggie please reach out.
