You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Okay, we’re just going to say it… Poppy might be PERFECT. ❤️ We know “perfect” is a big word, but anyone who knows Poppy will tell you that she is one incredibly special girl.Poppy has been at the shelter for almost a year, and somehow, this wonderful dog is still waiting for her forever home. She is a staff favorite, and honestly, it’s not hard to see why. Poppy is the kind of dog who makes everyone around her smile.She absolutely loves going for walks and would make an amazing hiking buddy for someone who enjoys getting out and exploring. When she’s not out enjoying an adventure, Poppy is perfectly content soaking up the sunshine, getting belly rubs, or hanging out in the office with her favorite people. She even seems to be perfectly comfortable around the office kitties!Poppy is also best friends with King and Bandit, two other long-term residents who have become her buddies. While she loves her special friends, Poppy can be selective with certain dogs, so a meet and greet with any dog is required to make sure everyone is a good match.And if you’re wondering how she might do in a home, Poppy gives us another reason to be optimistic: she never has accidents in her room. We feel confident that with the right transition and routine, she will do wonderfully in a home.Poppy has spent far too long waiting. She deserves a soft bed, a sunny spot, a family to adventure with, and most importantly, a place she can finally call home.And there’s better news — Poppy’s adoption fee has been sponsored! Plott/Golden Retriever puppies seeking loving homes! Small adoption fee to ensure commitment. Not yet spayed/neutered due to age.Age/Size: Turned 5 months on 8/3; approx. 35–40 lbs currentlyHealth: No known issues except Pocahontas. All will need spay/neuter and updated shots.Training: Not housebroken or leash-trained. They spend time outdoors in a pen and will need dedicated training.Temperament: All friendly with adults and kids; no cat exposure.Location: Schuyler, VA (30 min south of Charlottesville). Will need to meet in-person around Charlottesville. Puppies:Pocahontas (F): Had some seizures but has been seizure‑free since 8/2 and is playing more with siblings.Rhonda (F): Very energetic; loves initiating play.Poncho (M): Brindle; loves being outdoors and needs space to run.Bella (F): Not yet available; more info can be provided.Dakota (M): Adopted (shown in pic)

Judy has already beaten the odds once. In May 2025, Judy was brought to an animal shelter after being shot in her neighborhood. No owner ever came forward to claim her. Thanks to the care she received, Judy made a full recovery and has shown incredible resilience every step of the way. It would be heartbreaking for Judy's journey to end on June 26 after surviving what she did. Help us get her out of the shelter and save her life!! Judy has proven she is a survivor. Now she needs someone willing to give her the future she fought so hard to have. ❤️‍🩹 Medical: Heartworm Negative, Bordetella, DHPP, Rabies 📅 Deadline: June 26 (to spring her from the shelter...she is not in the rescue yet) After everything Judy has survived, she deserves a happy ending—not a deadline. Please share, foster, adopt, or even a foster to adopt. Her life depends on it.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.  Sophia is such a beauty! She loves playtime with other dogs, but can be a cuddlebug as well once she has expended her energy. She is an active girl, and will be happiest with a fenced yard for running time—or a devoted athletic family to get her through her bursts of energy. Mountain curs are not a breed we see frequently here in Virginia; Sophia has been a “transplant” for over a year, and has made the change from her roots in New Mexico to Virginia with ease. She is familiar with kids, as her foster home has grandchildren who visit frequently, and she knows about cats. She is housetrained and knows about crates.
