Story
Poppy Age: 2 ½ years young / Profession: Professional bird-watcher & expert cuddler / Looking for: My partner-in-adventureAbout MeHi, I’m Poppy! I’m a beautiful, petite Pointer mix with a heart full of love and energy to spare. I’m as friendly as they come and total pack goals—I absolutely thrive around other dogs and love to play, run, and socialize.I’m a resilient single mom who successfully raised an amazing puppy (who already found his forever match!), and now it’s officially my turn to find my happy ending. My friends describe me as the ultimate `work hard, play hard` partner. When we`re outside, I am super playful, energized, and ready to take on the world. But the second we step inside? I completely understand the assignment. I transition seamlessly into a calm, relaxed companion who is ready to settle down and chill. My Hobbies & PassionsI’m a true Pointer at heart, which means I have a natural instinct for spotting birds and exploring the world with my nose and eyes. If you like the German Shorthaired Pointer vibe, you are going to love me. I’m incredibly smart, highly active, and happiest when I`m on the move. My ideal lifestyle includes:Long walks and scenic hikes Playdates with other dogs Brain games and mental challenges (I love having a `job`!) I also have excellent recall and an eagerness to learn, which means I`m a joy to work with and very easy to guide.I’m a 10 but...I will absolutely spot every bird on our hike and expect you to be just as amazed by them as I am.My Perfect MatchSomeone loyal, affectionate, and adventurous who can keep up with my pace and keep me smiling. If you want a companion who is the perfect balance of outdoor athlete and indoor couch potato, swipe right. Let`s see if we`re a match!

Story
Name: Taki Age: 2 years Sex: Neutered male Breed: Pointer mix Color: White & Black Weight: 16 kg Height (shoulder): 57 cm   Rescue Story Taki entered a municipal shelter in December 2025, wearing a collar, which suggests he may have been abandoned. He was rescued just before euthanasia and transferred to our care in March.   ‍‍ With People Taki is an affectionate and social boy who loves being around people. He happily approaches both familiar and new people, leaning in for pets and attention. He is comfortable being handled and can be picked up by placing arms under his belly. Once he bonds with you, he will even roll over to show his belly.   With Other Dogs Taki is friendly and eager to interact with other dogs. He approaches both familiar and unfamiliar dogs to greet and invite them to play. If other dogs don’t engage, he may bark to express his desire to join in. He tends to be more comfortable with dogs of similar or smaller size and will avoid overly energetic or confrontational dogs. While he enjoys playing with dogs, he generally prefers people over other dogs when given the choice.   With Cats When he sees cats during walks, he shows curiosity but can be redirected easily and follows his handler well. Cat testing is available upon request.   Energy Level Taki has a moderate energy level. He enjoys outdoor activities and playtime, but he settles down nicely afterward. He loves to play, but his stamina is not very high—he often lies down to rest during play sessions.   ‍ Walks Taki is curious and enjoys sniffing, so he tends to move side to side during walks. He may pull occasionally when excited, and he is currently learning to walk calmly beside his handler.   Other Notes   Not possessive over food with people or dogs, but has a strong appetite and may try to take others’ food May show mild separation-related barking at first, but settles down after a while Uses barking to express wants, especially toward other dogs during play Very responsive and perceptive—he reads human emotions well and quickly understands boundaries Calm and quiet in a kennel Rides well in a crate and gets in and out of the car on his own Currently does outdoor potty   Personality Taki is a simple, pure-hearted, and joyful dog who brings warmth and happiness to those around him. His innocent and loving nature makes him incredibly endearing. Apply to adopt or foster: https://adoptmekr.org Please also visit our Facebook and Instagram! Story
Diamond is a 1½‑year‑old spayed pointer–pit mix with a soft, elegant presence and a heart full of sweetness. At 45 pounds, she’s a perfectly sized companion — petite enough to fit comfortably into any home, yet full of personality and charm. This lovely girl is gentle, laid‑back, and wonderfully lady‑like. She moves through the world with quiet confidence, offering soft kisses, leaning in for affection, and settling beside you with calm devotion. Diamond enjoys playtime too — she likes to romp, explore, and show off her adorable “pointer” alertness when something catches her attention. Yes, she really does point, and it’s as cute as it sounds. Diamond tested beautifully with other dogs and played well, showing the same easy-going temperament she brings to everything she does. She walks nicely on leash, stays connected to her handler, and makes every outing feel peaceful and enjoyable. She’s a great dog — gentle, affectionate, and ready to be someone’s treasured companion. Diamond is available for adoption in the Greater Los Angeles area and is hoping for a loving home where she can shine. Story
Fries is on our Call to Action list due to high levels of excitement/arousal that caused issues in her former home, and are difficult to manage in the shelter. Fries shared her previous home with a young child and an older individual, both of which she was too strong for and has knocked over. On one occasion, Fries was startled and bit her owner on the leg, though the exact circumstances are unknown. Fries’s second bite incident occurred while she was being surrendered. As her owners attempted to load her into their vehicle, she bit the older individual on the arm. The damage from both of these bites was extremely minor, and we believe her behaviors may be rooted in a lack of fulfillment and overarousal rather than aggression, and Fries has been very amenable to handling for shelter staff and volunteers. However, managing these behaviors requires a dedicated adopter, making her more difficult to place. While Fries is reported to have done well with small dogs in the past, and has been friendly with large dogs while in our care, she becomes extremely excited at the sight of other dogs, even at a distance. She barks, pulls on the leash, and will even run into fences trying to reach them. Again, she has been in playgroup successfully, and these behaviors appear to be rooted in excitement to go say hello. Going on walks with Fries may require a physically strong individual to manage her. This limits her handlers at the shelter and her opportunities to get out of the kennel. In a home, management and consistent training may help lower Fries’s stress levels and reactivity to other dogs.We believe that Fries is an extremely energetic, active young dog, who is sweet at heart but is not being fulfilled. Unfortunately, we often see dogs like this decline quickly at the shelter. They spend most of their days kenneled, building up even more energy, and it’s impossible for us to meet their needs here. Knowing that her mouthiness has already led to two bites, we urgently need to find placement for Fries with an adopter, foster, or rescue. We want to see this girl succeed, so to help her adjust to a new home the shelter will sponsor a series of training sessions with a local trainer for foster or adopter. If interested in adoption, please email animal.care@ventura.org.Interested in fostering Fries? Please apply at vcas.us/foster and apply at vcar.foster@ventura.org to let us know you are specifically interested in Fries A865186. <
