Story
Puppies Snap, Crackle, and Pop came to Priceless Pets from one of our rescue partners after they had been found dumped on the side of the road...alone, deaf, and mostly blind. These puppies appear to have been born with two copies of the merle gene. When a pet has one copy of this gene it causes the dappled coat color. When a pet inherits two copies of this gene, it can lead to several abnormalities, most notably, a large amount of white in their coat, deafness, and blindness. These puppies are mostly deaf and blind but do seem to be able to tell the difference between lightness and darkness, e.g., they perk up when you turn the light on in their room. Because of their white coats and short hair, they will need to be protected from over-exposure to sunlight. From their foster family: "We didn't know what to expect when we took in three special needs pups. Boy, were we surprised! These girls are absolutely fearless. You wouldn't know for a minute that they're not like any other puppy. When they're placed in a new environment, they'll go quickly around the perimeter a few times to get their bearings and then start exploring the in-betweens. They can smell you a mile away so don't think you can easily sneak up on them - unless they're asleep, and then you can tiptoe around them while they snooze away. When you're sitting down with them, they will LEAP into your arms like little fearless gazelles. They're potty-trained to go on pee pads inside their xpen in the house or outside in a particular spot on the grass. They have huge appetites and love all snacks from carrot sticks to blueberries to regular puppy treats. One of our favorite games is to hide treats in their toy box or in the yard so they run around with noses to the ground finding each one. These girls are super cuddly and love one-on-one attention, showering you with kisses. Any and all toys are amazing to them. Because of their short white coats, they are sensitive to being in the sun for long periods of time so we put a little doggie sunscreen on them when we know they're going to be out in the sun for long periods of time. Now that they're fully vaccinated, they've been doing amazing with their leash training, learning Sit, no jumping, and no puppy biting. They love plush toys and playing in the small kiddie pool in our yard. Check out some of the adorable videos! The only time we've heard them whine or bark is at each other during play time. Otherwise, they're quiet girls who spend all day playing, napping, snacking, repeat. They have been an absolute joy to foster! These beautiful, sweet girls will make amazing additions to some lucky families. Follow them on Instagram at instagram.com/puppies_snap_crackle_pop" If you've never trained a blind and/or dog before, there are lots of options out there ranging from free online resources like Keller's Cause (https://www.kellerscause.com) to local experienced trainers. The foster has already been working closely with No Bull Rehab (https://www.nobullrehab.com) and would like to sponsor a free 45-min Zoom meeting with NBR to help get the puppies off to a great start! This Zoom meeting will be arranged after the adoption is complete. Please note all adoptions are completed on a first come first serve basis. Please complete an application online at pricelesspetrescue.org.
