Story
Dax – 6-month-old Pointer MixDax is a sweet, affectionate 6-month-old pointer mix with a gentle heart, a sharp mind, and a playful puppy spirit. He came to AHeinz on transport from a crisis-stricken Oklahoma animal shelter and is now off the euthanasia list and happily settling into foster care in Des Moines. Since his arrival, he has been out and about with his foster mom and has shown he loves everyone he meets, dog and human! He met a lot of children at a meet and greet and he adores them and vice versa!Currently about 43 pounds and still filling out, Dax is an active hunting-breed mix who loves exercise and outdoor time. A **securely fenced yard** is important for him so he can safely run and burn off energy.Dax is very smart and already working on Level 4 enrichment puzzles. He thrives with daily mental stimulation and loves Kongs, lick mats, puzzle toys, frozen treats, and healthy (non-rawhide) chews. Regular enrichment helps him stay happy and settled. He quickly learned sit and down and is working on more basics. He is friendly with both large and small dogs and lives peacefully with his foster’s resident dogs. Dax loves being with his people and soaking up affection, but he’s not clingy. He’s happy to relax nearby and also enjoys his independent downtime, often choosing a favorite chair or sofa to unwind on his own.Additional notes:* Wonderful on recall with zero training! *Doing great with pee pad housetraining, which was necessary because of cold snap. Now his training to go outdoors is going nicely! He is a very clean dog when he knows where to go. * Quickly learning to walk well on leash. * Has not been kept in a crate. He does great in a puppy proofed room with a baby gate when his foster is away from the house. * Not yet tested with cats but we can arrange for him meet potential adopters’ cats and other pets*Sleeps quietly throughout the night Dax would do best with adopters who have the time and commitment to provide daily exercise, outdoor activity, training, and enrichment. He’s an excellent match for an active home that enjoys working with a smart, athletic, and affectionate young dog. He is an extrovert so his human (s) should enjoy his antics while meeting new friends!Dax will be neutered and vaccinated prior to adoption. More updates to come as he continues to settle in.If you’re looking for a smart, loving puppy who enjoys adventure

Story
Opal is a loving girl who came to us as a stray, and although she may be a bit wary of new people at first, it doesn't take long for her to warm up and show you just how affectionate she can be. Once she bonds, Opal becomes a total love bug who just wants to be close to her humans! Opal loves running around outside and having fun in the yard, but she’s developed quite the escape artist skills, so she’ll need a secure, fenced yard to keep her safe and entertained. A large yard where she can stretch her legs would be ideal for this active girl. Although Opal came to us with another dog, she’s fairly independent and would need a meet and greet to ensure she’s a good fit with other dogs in the home. She enjoys the company of others but also loves her alone time. Opal’s adoption fee covers her vaccines, microchip, and spay, so she’s all set to start her new life with you! If you’re looking for a sweet, independent dog who enjoys a good run and is ready to be your loyal companion, Opal might be the one for you. Come meet her today – she’s ready to find her forever home!
