Pattie is one of the most special cats I’ve ever met. She’s a petite girl, weighing in at just under 6 pounds but she has a huge personality! Pattie’s original owner decided she no longer wanted cats in her home so she threw Pattie and another cat outside and stopped feeding them. The owner hoped they would just “go away.” Pattie was not spayed and had never been outside in her life and spent two days hiding under an air conditioning unit. Eventually someone driving by noticed her hiding and decided to pick her up and take her with them. Unfortunately after a couple of weeks, this person decided to dump her back where he found her. She was in even worse shape and had lost a lot of weight. Luckily at this point, a young girl in the neighborhood brought Pattie inside and asked Tipped Ears for helping finding her a home. And Pattie has been doing amazing ever since! She loves to sleep on her people’s heads in bed and she makes lots of biscuits. She loves toys, wet food, treats, and soft blankets. She hasn’t let her difficult past stop her from absolutely loving every person she meets. She’s not crazy about other cats and would do great as a solo cat or with another calm cat with a slow introduction. Also, Pattie is a polydactyl! She has extra toes on all her feet which is very rare! Her tiny frame with her big feet is just about the cutest thing in the world! Pattie can’t wait to have a fresh start and a beautiful forever home to call her own!

A volunteer was driving in Westminster and came across a cardboard box sitting underneath a parked truck with three kittens inside. A concerned neighbor had been feeding the kittens for a few weeks while trying to find them somewhere to go with no luck. He said the mother cat had been hit by a car a couple weeks earlier, and her kittens were left. All three kittens were out in the freezing, cold rain trying to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, this compassionate neighbor had too many animals to adopt them himself. Poly is a friendly and affectionate cat. He loves people, enjoys pets and cuddles. Poly is also unique in that all four of his paws are polydactyl. This means Poly has six or more toes on each paw, rather than the normal five toes. Cats with polydactyl paws have better balance because they have wider, larger paws allowing them to hunt and climb more efficiently. Another interesting item about polydactyl cats is that they were a favorite of Ernest Hemingway. Mr. Hemingway received a polydactyl feline from a ship’s captain by the name of Snow Ball and subsequently developed a true love for multi-toed cats. His home in Key West, Florida was transformed into a museum after this death and about half of the cats that reside there are polydactyl. FHV-1 is very common, in fact almost all cats are exposed to FHV-1 as kittens, either by their mother or by another cat. Up to 80% of cats develop a hidden (referred to as dormant or latent) infection and become carries of FHV-1 for life. In many cats, this causes no problems. But sometimes feline herpes returns occasionally throughout the cat's life, especially in times of illness or stress. Just as some people get repeated Herpes cold sores, some cats will repeatedly get corneal (eye) ulcers or have chronic (long term) sneezing or nasal congestion. Our vet believes he may grow out of the symptoms especially if he is taken out of the high stress shelter environment. Poly is a special boy that really deserves a home! This cutie pie is Arnold! He’s a really sweet cat who wants nothing but love and attention. He’ll follow you around the house and try to help with everything you’re doing. And he actually might be able to since this handsome guy has extra toes! Having extra toes isn’t the only thing that makes Arnold special. He has something called Radial Hyperplasia, which means his front leg bends inward. Of course this doesn’t slow him down one bit! Cats are so adaptable!
