OTHER PETS: Bertha hasn't shown a whole lot of interest in other dogs during her stay here at TJO.. She would much rather ignore other pups and go off doing her own thing. While Bertha would enjoy being an only dog, we are open to the possibility that she may enjoy living with dog(s) of similar independence. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Bertha is VERY sensitive to heat, and has a history of seizures if her body temp gets too high. Bertha's best fit would be with someone who has experience with caring for a dog with this type of medical need. [Very Experienced]KIDS: Bertha is comfortable with most handling and interacting, but has engaged in some mild resource guarding with high value possessions like bones or jerky while at TJO. She has been happy to trade for treats, but should still be left to enjoy her chosen chew without being bothered. Trading up with high value items will help her learn human presence means good things happen and helps reduce anxiety when it comes to resource-guarding. Minors should be actively supervised to keep everyone safe. [15+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Bertha is an independent girl who enjoys relaxing and exploring when it isn't too hot outside. She hasn't been the most enthusiastic about playing, but she always enjoys hanging around and relaxing with her favorite people. (Even if shes too big for your lap she will still attempt it) She does enjoy her time outside, but will often refuse to venture too far if she feels it's too hot. Even though she's quite good at self-regulating, she will still need to be monitored closely to ensure she does not overheat. Mild, appropriate exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help fully meet her needs. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Brachycephalic dogs have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, they are also more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. **Bertha is very sensitive to heat and will need to be supervised outside for short periods at a time** Care needs to be taken to ensure that their wrinkles are cleaned-- neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. A strong relationship with a vet is recommended to ensure that Bertha ages gracefully. [Above Average / Intense]GROOMING: Bertha, like any bulldog, will need her wrinkles cleaned routinely, as neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infection. Bertha may also do well with a professional groomer in order to keep her comfortable and clean. Lily the Chug Are you looking for a small bundle of energy full of love, antics, & sass to liven up your home? Then look no farther than Lily the chug (3/4 pug, 1/4 chihuahua with a whole lotta chi attitude)! This long legged, grumpy faced little minx has adorable ears that either stand up at attention or rest crossed atop her head. Her overbite, often with her lip stuck on her teefers gives her adorable expressions. Lily has no enemies, loving to play-play-play with dogs & people of all ages & sizes. At her foster mom’s house, she cavorts with a 90# Great Pyrenees as much as she does with a pair of pugs. She’d also like to play with the cats, but she is too hyper for them & gets swatted. Lily does calm down to cuddle & actively seeks attention. Lily was a neglected outdoor pup until her surrender to God’s Dogs Rescue, so is still working on her housebreaking. She almost has it down pat with use of a doggy door. You will never experience a dull moment with this petite cutie in your life! Attributes: Housebreaking in progress. Through no fault of his own, he found himself owner surrendered to a shelter, but he's ready to leave that chapter behind and find the forever family he deserves. Gus can be unsure of meeting new people at first, and may be a little shy and territorial. Once he knows you, he will be your best friend for life. He will welcome you with kisses, happy jumps, lots of tail wags.  When Gus was owner surrendered, we were told that he is potty trained and does know how to use a bell to alert when needing to use the bathroom. He is also not much of a barker, gets along great with dogs, rides well in a car, and walks well on leash.  Gus is neutered, 4DX negative, microchipped, current on all vaccinations, and protected with ProHeart 12 and Bravecto.  His adoption fee is $400. Lola is the equivalent of a clown cars trunk, full of the fun stuff! Take cartoonish features, add four squeaky toys, a bouncy ball, at least one crinkle toy, and a pogo stick… and somehow turn it into a 20 lb dog. That is Lola! She is estimated to be around a year old and looks very much like a pug/boxer mix, though rescue rules absolutely apply and we cannot guarantee either. What we can guarantee is that Lola arrives preloaded with comedy, athleticism, and a level of enthusiasm that rivals a sugared up kid about to get on their first carnival ride. She is an absolute toy lover, easily self-entertains, and wakes up every day ready to turn life into recess. Lola would likely thrive with someone who genuinely enjoys training and wants an active sidekick to pour into. Think adventure buddy, hiking pal, training class enthusiast, enrichment queen, “let’s work your brain and body” kind of home. She is the kind of dog that will be incredibly rewarding in the right hands. She handles environmental stressors well, recovers quickly, and remains social and confident with people always. Welcome Johnny to CCPAL Rescue. Johnny is a 10-week-old Pug mix puppy. He is a beautiful tan color with a black muzzle. He has an underbite and a shortened nose. He is a bigger-sized boy pup in the liter. He should be 20 or 25 pounds full grown is our best estimate. He is a laid-back boy and was easy to take photos with. They all have curly tails and the round adorable heads. Johnny is one of two boys in the litter. He was the last puppy to come out of his kennel as he was enjoying his nap. He was very workable and stood stil and sat willingly on the table for the photo shoot. They are all affectionate and cuddly. They are very playful with their siblings. They go on a wee pad but are not fully potty trained. They are good in a crate and are getting regular attention and love at the Rescue. We don’t have the privilege of adopting out many pugs. We are excited to find the pug pups their forever homes. We would prefer pug people for these pups, as they know the breed best. They will be spayed and neutered and ready for their forever homes soon. Someone that doesn’t work all day every day is the best candidate for a puppy. These pups would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older as these pups are small and very trusting of everyone. Johnny is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast.
