Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. Marge & Willa…better together! We had an approved adopter who was going to adopt both of them but they’ve decided they aren’t sure if they’re ready to take on 2 dogs. Totally understandable but we’re hoping there is a home out there for these 2 so they can stay together! They will not be ready to go to their new home until July due to undergoing heartworm treatment. Marge and Willa are the cutest little girls who were abandoned by their family when they moved. We believe they are about 2 years old. Marge is a medium sized girl who weighs about 35lbs. We believe she is a boxer mix or boston terrier mix. She is SO INCREDIBLY SWEET! She is a cuddler and will crawl right into your lap and cuddle for as long as you will let her. She has the sweetest personality. She loves other dogs and is very submissive. Willa is a medium sized girl who weighs about 45lbs. We believe she is a boxer mix or boston terrier mix. Willa is a little bit higher energy than her sister, Marge, but is equally as sweet and loving. She enjoys play time as well as cuddle time. She loves other dogs and is very submissive. They started at the Arkansas Paws in Prison Program on 4/20 where they are being trained for all basic obedience, house training, leash training, and some tricks as well! They did test positive for heartworms and will be treated before going to a new home. We hope to have a home lined up for them once they graduate and finish heartworm treatment. They are very bonded and we would love nothing more than for them to be adopted together. But we know how hard it is to find a home for 2 dogs together, so we hope their experience at Paws in Prison will help them gain some independence from one another. We would definitely consider adopting them seperately for the right homes. Marge and Willa are located in Arkansas. They can be adopted locally, or can be transported to the northeast if adopted there. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them in PA, NY, or CT on Saturdays. For more info, email apps.aasr@gmail.com To apply to adopt, click here: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion. Story
Meet Ian – Your Slightly Wonky, Totally Wonderful Adventure Buddy If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain… Ian might just be your perfect match. This little Boston Terrier mix lives life full throttle—zooming through the yard like he’s racing in the Indy 500, making pit stops in imaginary swamps with Shrek, and embracing every muddy, joy-filled moment along the way (bonus points if you don’t mind getting a little dirty with him). Ian is a young, playful pup with a heart as big as his personality. He came into rescue with a shattered hip that has since healed, leaving him with an adorable “wonky” gait. When he runs, his back leg sometimes flails out to the side—but it doesn’t slow him down one bit. If anything, it just makes him even more unforgettable. Personality & Play Style: Ian is a social, toy-loving goofball who thrives on fun. He always has a toy in his mouth—seriously, always. He’ll take them outside, bring them back in, and politely “check” them at the door until you hand them back. He loves playing with other dogs, especially games of chase and keep-away. After playtime, Ian enjoys winding down with his favorite toy and appreciates a little personal space during his chill time. Because of this, he’d do best with a laid-back, respectful dog companion—especially one around his size or slightly smaller who won’t bother him when he’s relaxing. Snuggles Included: Once the zoomies are out, Ian is all about couch time. He’ll curl up beside you, toy in tow, and drift off while you watch TV. The perfect mix of playful and snuggly. Communication Style (aka his signature move): Ian has the best voice—a raspy, screechy, baby pterodactyl sound that he proudly uses to let you know when he’s ready to come out of his crate or needs a potty break. It’s hilarious, endearing, and very effective. He’ll also quietly go sit by the door, so keep an eye out—he’s a good boy who just needs you to notice his polite signals. Mealtime & Care: Ian is an enthusiastic foodie, so he uses a slow feeder bowl to keep mealtime safe and comfortable. Medical Transparency: Due to his past injury, Ian has diabetes insipidus. The good news: • No injections required • Managed with oral medication twice daily • Just needs a few extra potty breaks His condition is well-managed, and he’s living a happy, active, zoomie-filled life. The Perfect Home for Ian: • An active home that enjoys play, laughter, and a little chaos • A consistent adopter who can manage his simple medical routine • A respectful dog companion—or he’d love being your one and only • Someone who appreciates a quirky, lovable personality Ian isn’t just a dog—he’s an experience. He’ll make you laugh daily, keep life interesting, and then curl up next to you like he’s always belonged there. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
OTHER PETS: Bertha is not intersted in other dogs, she becomes nervous and avoids ongoing interaction or chooses to ignore others and do her own thing when out in the world on a leash. Bertha would enjoy being an only dog but we are open to the possibility that she may enjoy living with dog(s) of similar independence. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Bertha is VERY sensitive to heat, she will have seizures if her body temp gets too high. While vigilance is the best prevention, this is a high stress world and sometimes things go sideways. Bertha's best fit would be with someone who has experience with positive reinforcement, and caring for a dog with a medical issue that can be scary. [Very Experienced] GROOMING: [Minimal]KIDS: Bertha is comfortable with most handling and interacting but has engaged in mild resource guarding with high value possessions like bones or jerky and could resource guard food at mealtime. Removing items from any dog can be risky even without signs of resource guarding, but when a dog resource guards prized possessions the safest thing to do is 'trade up' with an item of equal or higher value. This helps build confidence around favorite itmes while keeping everyone safe. We want Bertha to be set up for success so her human family members should be old enough to understand how to interact with her safely. [15+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Bertha is an independent girl who enjoys relaxing and exploring when it isn't too hot outside; she is comfortable interacting with humans but hasn't been very playful while at TJO. Bertha enjoys time outside but needs to be monitored closely to ensure she does not overheat - enthusiasm around toys can be developed, a combination of regular/appropriate exercise and mental enrichment such as food puzzles, scent games, and new tricks will help meet her needs. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Brachycephalic dogs have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, they are also more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. **Bertha is very sensitive to heat, she will have seizures if she is not kept in an air conditioned environment during high temperatures** Care needs to be taken to ensure that their wrinkles are cleaned, neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. A strong relationship with a vet is recommended to ensure that Bertha ages gracefully. [Above Average / Intense]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Bertha bond with her new owner, build confidence, and learn new skills and fun tricks.
