Meet Alfalfa: a sassy little Rat Terrier with big opinions and zero interest in keeping them to himself.Alfalfa knows exactly what he wants out of life: daily walks, plenty of outdoor adventures, a chance to show off his impressive trick repertoire, and a cream cheese-filled Kong enjoyed in peace and dignity. He`s smart, spirited, and believes clear communication is the foundation of every good relationship—especially when it comes to his personal boundaries. This sassy gentleman is looking for an adult-only home with experienced dog owners who appreciate a dog who comes with both personality and preferences. Alfalfa isn`t looking to just be managed; he`s looking to be understood. In return, he`ll provide entertainment, companionship, and plenty of laughs.Alfalfa may enjoy sharing his home with a cat.If you`re a fan of clever dogs with strong opinions and even stronger charm, Alfalfa is ready to interview you for the position of `his person.`If you are interested in adopting Alfalfa please come to the shelter on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 12-4pm with all of the members of your home.

Story
Welcome Dash to CCPAL Rescue. Dash is a Rat Terrier from the local breeder in Texas. He is a traditional Black and Tan Rat Terrier. He was born on March 12, 2026. He will be getting his vaccinations, neutered, dewormed and ready for his forever home. He will be a small dog full grown. 15 to 18 pounds or less. Dash was really good in his photo shoot and sat like a big dog getting photos. Dash is one of the smaller boys. He is playful and very sweet. The breeder for this litter is closing shop due to an illness. We have agreed to help get her population down starting with the puppies. This breed is smart, loyal and the puppies are affectionate. Someone who knows this breed would be best. They are energetic so a moderately active family or more active would be best for the Rat Terrier. Dash would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. Rat Terriers are great family pets and watchdogs for their family. Their training is easier due to their intelligence and a light touch is needed. They are a wonderfully sensitive breed and from experience want to do what you are asking. Dash is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. We have an entire litter of Rat Terriers. They are from a breeder. We don’t have papers but they are considered pure bred pups. His adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Online applications at www.ccpalrescue.org See his cute video

Story
Meet Tina! She is a 2 year old rat terrier/heeler mix rescued with her mom, sister and younger siblings after being dumped in a bad area of town. She is very submissive and a little shy at first but wants she warms up she loves belly rubs! She get's that from her mom! She is great with other dogs of all sizes but prefers medium and small dogs. The bigger dogs make her a little nervous. She is working on leash walking, potty training and crate training. She is currently 23 lbs with long legs. She is just a sweet girl looking for love and a place to lounge around! Tammy is available for adoption with Saving Grace Dog Rescue of San Antonio. The adoption fee is $195 local or $395 out of state with transport. An adoption application and adoption contract are all required. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations appropriate for their age, microchipped, and wormed for internal and external parasites. If you would like more information please email us at sgdrsa@outlook.com. An adoption application can be completed online at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/SGDR/Dog Please note that visual breed identification in rescue dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only GUESSING at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Story
All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Meet Sasha & Precious: A Bonded Pair Looking for Their Forever Home Sasha and Precious are an adorable pair of bonded Jack Russell Terrier sisters who have been together their entire lives. Recently surrendered through no fault of their own, these sweet girls are adjusting remarkably well to life after leaving the only home they've ever known. Their previous owner allowed them to roam freely in a rural southern neighborhood, which unfortunately was not permitted, leading to their surrender.  Despite this big life change, Sasha and Precious remain happy, loving, and devoted to one another. They share a special bond that we hope to preserve by finding a family willing to welcome both girls into their home. Precious is the smaller sister, weighing just 13 pounds, and is easy to spot thanks to the extra white on her head. Don't let her size fool you—she's definitely the boss of the duo! This confident little girl loves carrying toys around in her mouth and is always ready for adventure. She absolutely thrives in the yard, where her speed and agility are on full display. Precious enjoys the company of other dogs but likes to be the one calling the shots. Sasha, the bigger sister at 17 pounds, is every bit as fun-loving. Her favorite hobby? Taking apart toys with great enthusiasm! Like her sister, she loves running and playing outside and would be thrilled to have a yard where she can stretch her legs. Both girls adore people and are wonderful with children. They seem to get along well with other dogs and are currently fostered with one. When playtime is over, Sasha and Precious are happy to curl up with their humans for cuddles—or snuggle together when their people aren't nearby. These loving sisters have so much joy, affection, and companionship to offer. They have spent their entire lives side by side, and we would love nothing more than to find a forever home where they can continue their journey together. If you're looking for double the love, double the fun, and double the cuddles, Sasha and Precious may be the perfect pair for you!  All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. The Greater Derry Humane Society does not have a physical shelter, and all visits are by appointment only. July 10, 2026, 3:15 pm
