Story
Sophie is an adorable Vintage lady looking for a great home. She is 14 years old, weighs 10 pounds, and is mostly blind, although she can still see some shadows. She was surrendered to a shelter in Connecticut and is now safe and sound at our rescue and retirement home in Rhode Island. Sophie is an incredibly sweet senior dog who spends a lot of her day sleeping. We always find her fast asleep in the middle of the floor, even after we lead her to a dog bed. The firm, flat floor may feel nicer on her joints; we'd recommend her adopter getting an orthopedic bed versus a soft, fluffy bed. Sophie has been friendly with every dog she's met while in our care. She doesn't mind being picked up and held, but due to her vision impairment, it's best to move slowly so she isn't startled. Sophie has a grade 1 heart murmur. She also has a mature cataract in her right eye and a luxating lens in her left eye. Her eye pressure should be monitored and rechecked every 6 months to ensure she doesn't develop any pain. She also has elevated liver values (ALT & ALP). Since Sophie is not a candidate for surgery due to her advanced age, we did not do further testing to explore the possibility of a mass on her liver, nor can she be spayed. We're looking for an adopter ready to give Sophie the love and care she deserves in her final chapter. Sophie is up-to-date on vaccinations and recently had full blood work. If you're interested in adopting Sophie, please submit an application at: https://www.vintagepetrescue.org/adopt

Meet Pablo – The Smart, Sensitive, and Snuggly Little Gentleman Adoption Fee: $399 Adoption Application - Copy & Paste https://forms.gle/FmtRtYxQNnemdkdw9 Pablo is a seven-year-old terrier mix who’s as sweet as he is smart! He’s neutered, up to date on vaccines, and is on monthly heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. He’s crate trained, house trained, and overall a very well-mannered boy. Pablo gets along great with dogs his size or smaller, but he can be a bit bossy with larger dogs. He’s not cat-friendly — not aggressive, but he loves to chase cats, which can make things stressful for them. He’s done well meeting polite, well-behaved children at adoption events and would do fine in a calm home with older or gentle kids. This handsome little guy loves walks, car rides, and curling up for cuddles on the couch (bonus points if there’s a blanket involved!). He’s also happy to sleep in a dog bed, on a blanket, or even in his crate without fuss. Pablo would love a securely fenced yard to explore because he does have a curious side and enjoys visiting the neighbors when given the chance — so a fence or leashed walks are a must for his safety. If you’re looking for a smart, cuddly, and devoted little dog with a big personality, Pablo might just be the one for you. Here's the adoption application, please copy & paste. https://forms.gle/FmtRtYxQNnemdkdw9 **To see all of our pets available for adoption, please copy this link. https://www.petfinder.com/search/pets-for-adoption/?shelter_id%5B0%5D=AL450&sort%5B0%5D=recently_added Paws of Dixie Animal Rescue adopts in the New England area. NOTE: All Paws of Dixie animals are located in AL foster homes. They will be transported north after adoption. Story
Meet Skipper! ❤️ 🐾 Skipper is (estimated at 9 years young) an auburn chipper male. Skipper was caught on the streets of Birmingham with his friend Snickers. So, we honestly think they came from the same home. Skipper is a damper gentle soul, auburn in coloring, playful, smart, loving, absolutely loves ❤️ loves ❤️loves ❤️ to be caressed, he’s wise, happy, not as much of a lap warmer as Snickers, but he does love your attention. He has long graceful legs and is a hoot. 😂 He loves car rides and does perfectly when traveling! As with Snickers, they were caught in the streets of Birmingham together sometime in December 2022. Both are both house trained with regular trips outside. A fenced backyard would be great and preferred! Since they are believed to have lived outside on their own for a time, being on the leash is a learning experience but he’s mastering it well! Skipper is very much loved in his foster home and they can’t wait for him to find his perfect family! 🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!
